don't get delivery

by doofevoli

we waited for over an hour and when we called about our order, she said they don't do anything about that and other people are usually cool with it.

  • Pros: big portions pretty good food
  • Cons: way too long on delivery and the manager is RUDE

Scary Place

by pluggiep

This place is scary and violent. There are always problems here, and everyone seems to want to fight - too much drinking and nothing else. The food is sub par.

blah

by rustynailbiter

It's the same old tired crowd every night. All the regulars who live in the area go there 4-5 nights a week. Most probably because it's a short stumble back home at the end of the night. I can't think of any other reason one would want to go there. It's pretty much a sausage fest aside from a few girls that frequent the place, but they aren't much to look at and have made their rounds in that place. Good for lunch, not for night life.

  • Pros: cheap drinks
  • Cons: No chicks

Best Neighborhood place

by msolei

LOVE this place. Have been going for years and it never disappoints. Great food, nice crowd, good strong drinks. It's a neighborhood bar, perfect for a Saturday or Sunday brunch with cocktails in the sun.

  • Pros: food, drinks, atmosphere
  • Cons: parking sometimes

Vodka Watered Down

by mrripley

First time I've been to birds in a long time... The food was great... a combination of koo koo roo and bar food.

My problem... I am an avid vodka drinker (well that's not really a problem). I drink it straight, on the rocks, with a lemon... Stoli by choice.

I ordered this very drink at Birds. It showed up in a small tumbler, but tasted chilled instead of straight. They insisted it was clean... I shut my mouth because the people at my table were giving me a hard time about it.

After dinner, we ordered another round. The waiter actually said he watched the bartender pour the drink. Again, it tasted chilled. I thought my taste buds were off that night.

Later, I went to 40 Duece... I ordered the same drink, and WHOA! THAT"S what vodka is SUPPOSED to taste like. A little kick to it!!! I knew I wasn't crazy. And mind you, this is already two drinks in, and as any mature drinker knows, the longer you drink, the weaker the drinks taste.

Maybe it was a bad batch, I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt.. but in the 15 years I've been drinking Stoli, it's never tasted like that right out of the bottle.

So go draw your own conclusions... Try it for yourself... Vodka drinkers UNITE! But I'll never go back there again for my drink of choice.

And to the dinner party I ate with that night... THANKS! ...for turning me into a pansy, forcing me to put up with less than 100% STOLI! And then getting mad when I didn't want to tip 20%.

great for locals or those from out of town trying to get to know locals

by vinnypi

I had just moved out to Hollywood and fell upon this bar on a Monday afternoon...it was the best fall I could have taken...I met a lot of locals as well as TV personalities over the next few years.(but do not tell anyone b/c they come there to be themselves and not be bothered - do not ruin it for everyone else)

Everoyne was great and the bartenders are very nice; as I recall vaguely most nights. I can not tell all the stories but this bar has incrediable food as well as women and libations. weekends are great and the "Just John" is a must try for anyone out of town...ask the female bar tenders as they know the drinks the best.

  • Pros: food and drinks fun and affordable
  • Cons: only that there ae not enough bar seats...

Like Mardi Gras Meets Oktoberfest...everynight!

by jilted_resentful

This place is a New York-style eatery/bar. Loud, noisy and full of energy. It is not for the weak-kneed or the uninitiated. When I met my agent here for dinner, it was crowded with diners.....this was at 9PM on a Wednesday night! The host will write your name on a list, and no matter who you are, including Jessica Simpson and her entourage, you must wait until a table is available. The wait is between five and fifteen minutes, and you can get a drink at the bar. This makes the wait seem like two minutes. Food ranges from a mile high (actually it's about a foot tall) stack of Onion rings, complete with three dipping sauces to a humongous Chicken Caesar salad. The menu includes Burgers, Sandwiches, Roasted Chicken, etc. There is something for everyone.

At 11pm this place turns into one of the hottest bar spots in Hollywood. Celebs bum cigarettes from the regulars as they all swig pints of beer or sip large martinis. It does have a provincial feel to it, (it has a large crowd of locals who walk down from the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood) but everyone is friendly and unassuming. No dancing in the Go Go cage the night I was there. The girls are hot and the guys are affable conversationalists.

This is not a place to go and have an intimate drink with a friend, you will meet half the people by the end of the night. I don't think the cute Asian girl, who is a regular there, is hooking up with anyone. People are just friendly and everyone hugs each other. Though if you are intimidated by people who are confident and attractive, than you might want to go somewhere else. This place is just too much fun for some people.

  • Pros: Full of energy, reasonable prices, friendly patrons and strong drinks.
  • Cons: No Parking, I repeat NO PARKING. Either Valet for $3.50 or catch a cab.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE

by cynvaughn

How this place is in business is a mystery to me. My girlfriend and I stopped by to have a late nite dinner and some drinks. What we got was terrible service, guys fist fighting, and a girl that was obviously so intoxicated she started thowing up right in front of our table. No one seemed to care -- no management around, nothing. We left and will never ever go back, nor will we ever recommend this scary place.

  • Pros: NONE
  • Cons: DRUNKS, DIRTY, RUDE

good neighborhood hangout

by leander___

this place is a great neighborhood hangout, as for all the people who have bad things to say yea sometimes the service isnt up to par but if your that high maintenance go to a $50 a plate restaurant your paying on average 20 -30 per person to eat and drink not a bad deal.. i love this place, most nights there are plenty of people trying to hook up.. it is a bar

  • Cons: valet that takes up neighborhood parking and charges customers for free street parking
