Smart Decor, fun place

I must say I really enjoyed the decor on the inside dining room. I am a huge fan of literature, and sat in a booth for a really great dinner. I noticed above me a tribute to some writers in some really neat frames - the whole place is classic, I must say, and the tribute to classic lit is a great touch.
The food was great - I highly recommend it if you haven't been.
I hear they have a great night on Saturdays - especially in summer. Unfortunately I had to catch a flight so I couldn't stay - but it was getting to be quite the scene out on the courtyard.
Highly recommended! I had a really nice time, good wine, good food, simply lovely.
- Pros: like the vibe
- Cons: ... none really

I just discovered this place recently. I have an industry friend who recommended the Buffalo Club to me on my visit to Los Angeles. I wanted a place to have fun amidst all my meetings and business in LA that wasn't Hollywood, but also that wasn't going to be flip flops and stinky, and a flop of a night out.
This place was great. I'll be back. We went for dinner (wow, I didn't want to get that full but I couldn't help myself) and then stayed for the entertainment... I had a surprisingly good time. The DJ was very, very good. I was dressed well, but by the time I really had gotten into it I wished I'd had another hour to get ready! It was fabulous. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
- Pros: Romantic, fun, great atmosphere, really delicious food!
- Cons: kind of spendy
Presently surprised!

I was hesitant about booking here after reading the negative reviews but it was husband's birthday and he'd been wanting to go for a while since it's in our 'hood (we live 5 blocks away!). I made early reservations (6:30 pm 10/17/08) to avoid the go-go dancing thing & just wanted a quiet dinner. Our waiter Ian was very gracious & extremely attentive, as was the sommelier, helpful, friendly & informative without being overbearing. The outdoor patio is gorgeous though I would have been just as happy inside in one of the sumptuous looking booths (maybe next time). The portions were generous & the dishes though not innovative, were very good! For dessert, we requested a cheese plate (there wasn't one on the menu) and they put a lovely and generous one together on the spot, no questions asked. The prices were typically high end Santa Monica (Melisse, Michael's)...what do people expect?? My advice, go early, but go!
BEST MAC & CHEESE!

Buffalo Club is a great spot for romantic date out on the patio or in a cozy booth. The food is good old fashioned, cooked to perfection and if you like fried chicken, it's to die for!
Great place if you like the Hollywood type of doorman
by santamonicajoe1

This is another Santa Monica spot that tries to be too Hollywood by having a doorman that only allows a certain people in. I was there for a private party but the doorman still gave me and my friends a hard time simply to get in. Once I got into the place it wasn't crowded. at all. The highlight was the music. The dj spun a good mix of house music. I would not recommend this place at all. If you like the all the hollywood places where you have to wait outside and deal with a rude doorman, this is the place for you. There are many other better places in Santa Monica without the hassle. Don't go to the Buffalo Club. This will be one of those places in the near future that will be called another name because the concept now does not work.
- Pros: Street Parking
- Cons: Rude staff, rude doorman, expensive drinks

Great place on weekend nights for drinks and some dancing. The summer time is particularly fun since most of the place its outdoors. This might not be your hang out if you want to sport a hat and Tevas.
Dress Code Issue

Well, I wouldn't know how to rate this place since I haven't BEEN IN! I had enough of an experience with the door guys to sign up on citysearch and write my first review. I'm sorry it has to be a bad one, but...
I was looking so forward to checking out Buffalo Club for a friend's birthday on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the cheap suit-clad doormen decided my friend's 'sneakers' were not up to par with the dress code. His John Varvatos chuck taylors were far more fashionable than the tacky leather square-toed shoes they were sporting. And, really? I'm not sure they've checked, but their club is located in a BEACH city, where tennis shoes are pretty much all most guys have in their closets - aside from their flip flops. So, while I can't rate the club itself, I can say the door guys are incredibly rude, and the management needs to re-visit their unreasonable dress code. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Inappropriate Behavior by staff

I was there for a private party that's regularly held there by a fitness instructor. The bouncer at the door insulted both my friend and me when we went to enter the club. I've never seen this person before, when he saw my reaction after he insulted my friend, he told me I looked constipated. We entered anyway. Once the private party was over, there were only a few (drunk) people left on the dance floor. Before we left, I asked to speak to a manager, Patrick, where I explained the inappropriate behavior of the bouncer. I was told that the bouncer has been there a long time, and he didn't have any problems with him, but that he would "talk with him" about my interaction. When we were leaving both Patrick and the bouncer were at the door we exited. My friend turned to the bouncer and said, "I don't appreciate what you said..." The manager Patrick looked at me and replied, "you know, there's medication for that" as he and the bouncer laughed. What I do know is, there's an attorney for that when being harassed in that manner. It's not the last they, and the owners will be hearing from these two ladies.
Not worth the money

I was very dissapointed with this place. The drinks are very expensive and the atmosphere just isn't worth shelling out all that cash. The food is average at best. There are much better places to go on the west side that are far less expensive.
- Pros: It doesn't get very crowded
- Cons: Poor service, bad food, expensive drinks
Great food, Poor Service!

We went tonight, a Saturday, the dining area was empty - waited 10 to 15 minutes to be seated - asked three people to be seated - left irritated with no food because no one came to seat us. We love the food here, however very unimpressed with the service.
