Great ambiance

by patriciajameson16

Its our first time here and I may that I was kinda impressed. The food was good with huge servings. Good for a large group of people. We sat at the terrace and the atmosphere was great. The ambiance was just awesome. And the staff was also friendly and accommodating.. We were really taken cared off. we are now planning on when we'll be back. Definitely a must-try place!

Awesome Food

by aslanmichelle

Our food came out on time and was prepared just right. I would recommend this place to a hungry person the portions are huge! Service as ok but the food made up for it! I’d go here again for sure.

Disappointing...and I'm being kind.

by CoinOperatedJoy

I've been to Katana several times and each time I keep thinking it will be the time to change my mind and make me understand all the hype about this place. Well, this time the restaurant definitely made an impact on me. I will NEVER go there again. I made a reservation three weeks in advance for Valentine's Day. I confirmed it (myself) the week before and the day of, making sure to let the hostess repeat the day and time back to me. The big day arrives and I check in ten minutes early. The hostess says I will be seated in ten minutes exactly. Half an hour later I check in again only to find she accidentally pushed my reservation to 11pm....and that I will need to wait another 20 minutes for an available table. I speak to the manager, Phillippe. He is kind and apologetic and my hopes are rekindled as he buys us a round of drinks while we wait, promises us a free appetizer and several desserts. Mind you, I would have been MORE than pleased at just being comped the round of drinks, but Phillippe INSISTED he take care of us. Our food takes a long time, but it's Valentine's Day so we don't mind. Half way through dinner a large cake, complete with sparklers and champagne is delivered to a lovely couple sitting adjacent to us and everyone turns to watch the spectacle and oooh and aaah over how romantic the gentleman is to do this for his date. Ten minutes later Phillippe (who delivered the cake in the first place) takes the cake back along with the champagne because he mistakenly brought it to the wrong table. Obviously, he should have brought them a complimentary dessert or at least let them keep their champagne. This is not the case. The gentleman looks horrified and the couple quickly leave. This should have served as an omen for what was to come.

After the meal has been obviously finished we sit at our table for another twenty minutes, our waitress no where to be found, nor Phillippe. Finally the waitress arrives with the check. She did not even offer us to look at the dessert menu and where were these desserts Phillippe promised us? Then we look at the bill. NOTHING has been comped. Nothing. We ask to speak to Phillipe and ask him (kindly) if there has been a mistake. He angrily takes the bill and tries to tell us the desserts are on their way. Yet we sat at an empty table with the check far too long for that to be true. I call his bluff. He doesn't say a word as he takes the bill and grudgingly takes off the first round of drinks and an appetizer. STILL no sign of dessert, which we saved room for. AND the waitress delivers the new check. Look, I don't NEED to be given anything for free. I didn't ask for any of these things. But when someone tells you to expect you...you expect the bill to reflect these promises. The entire night things kept going awry, there was a fire somewhere in the restaurant which caused smoke to permeate throughout the entire dining room and wreaked. My drink was made incorrectly and came out twenty minutes after I ordered it...there were more things that happened, but it would have all been forgiven and forgotten had Phillipe been consistent and kind. We just wanted to enjoy our Valentine's Day. Instead he made us feel like WE were the problems. That we were LUCKY to be dining there. The entire meal from start to finish took almost three hours and it was NOT because we ordered a lot of food or were taking our time. I will NEVER go to this restaurant again. AWFUL.

Great Food

by DawnA

I've been to Katana about 6 times... I love sitting outside. My usual order includes: foie gras (the only place I've tried it and it's surprisingly delicious), kobe beef, lamb chops, sashimi and sushi rolls... all are amazing!! And the cocktail at the bar in that large pitcher is refreshingly tasty!!

Fantastic Sushi and Drinks!

by cf113082

I have been to Katana 4 times now, and not once have I been disappointed. Sushi is my absolute favorite thing, and I have made it my personal goal to try out all of the fabulous sushi spots in LA. Katana is by far one of the absolute best!

You can't go wrong with any or the rolls, and if you like cocktails the pear martinis are amazing.

Awesome Place for Drinks & Tapas or Social Dinner

by DelRey

My Katana experience was pretty awesome. My food was tasty, my drink was refreshing with kick, and my wallet wasn't damaged to badly; oh, and I made two new friends as well as flirtatious banter with another cutie-pie patron.

I haven't had formal seating in the dining area, so I can only speak from a bar/terrace perspective, but if you're looking for a nice place where you can get an amazing meal, cool-hip atmosphere, and possibly chat it up a bit with your neighbor, this is a great spot.

  • Pros: Ambiance, Price, Terrace Seating, People Watching, Location

GREAT NIGHT OUT!!!

by ejergens

My husband and I went there last night and if I had read the reviews I might not have gone, but I am glad I did. We ordered the Izakaya Feast and it was fantastic!!! Our servers name was Chris and he was charming, our food came fast....very fast actually. Our tea was constantly refilled without asking, our food was introduced and explained to us as it was served, the manager came over and gave us his card and invited us back. I loved the place! The only problem we had was parking down below. My husbands truck is too tall for underground parking so we had to park in the $12 lot. Oh well......One more thing....I never go to restaurants for "the scene" I prefer the beach actually where you can look and dress and be whatever and whoever. High-end, Sunset strip, hip-slick-cool-see and be seen places are NOT interesting to me at all. I went for the food. It was fabulous! We will go back.

  • Pros: Food and Service!!!
  • Cons: parking

HORRIBLE SERVICE

by cynthialu

Went there on Sunday night, place is empty, hostess tells us there are large parties coming in so she can not seat us outside and that we can either sit at the banquettes in front or at the bar. We ask her if there is service at the banquette and she said "yes" so we sit and every waiter in the place walks right by us. I ask the hostess if she could send someone over to take our order, she says "yes" but does nothing. We wait and complain again and again -- no service. We moved to bar and there are only 4 people there, the bartender says "I'll be right with you" and leaves the bar for 15 minutes!! At that point, I complained to the manager and he could care less, doesn't apologize, doesn't say anything, so we left! I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my life! I have been to every hot restaurant in LA and never, not once have I been treated that way, I will never go back! You get better service when the place is packed.
