ice cream?? i dnt think so!!
by coughEqueen
Ewww, when i went in craving a chocolate malted crunch, all i found at the cooler in the counter was 4 buckets of pure butter pecan old looking ice cream with bottles of open sodas that had to be from employees. I had rather gone to Baskin Robins and choose from 31 flavors and spend 4 dollars on one scoop, than having no choice for an ice cream flavor.
NOT THE SAME QUALITY AS BEFORE!!!

Stay the he** away from this ice cream. Beside charging more for less ice cream per carton, the choices and quality have dropped precipitously of late. They used to have monthly/seasonal flavors (like peppermint during the holiday season). Those are now gone. The flavors they do have are mostly chocolate and vanilla with the faintest amount of extras thrown in to differentiate one flavor from another. Please follow me as I list several of my greatest disappointments with Thrifty Ice Cream...
1. Chocolate Malted Crunch: This was a favorite of mine, now I won't touch it. The last few cartons (purchased at different times from different stores) contained malted bits that, for lack of a better word, tasted stale. A real shame, because this ice cream used to be excellent.
2. Mint and Chip: The previously creamy ice cream has been icy and "crunchy" the last few times we've bought it. Also, the mint flavoring used to be good, now it tastes medicinal.
3. Pecan Praeline: Vanilla ice cream with approximately 5 to 10 sugared pecans per carton. Nothing like the original...
4. Black Cherry: Vanilla ice cream with purple food coloring and approximately 5 to 10 cherries per carton. Seriously, you have to go hunting for the things, yet on the packaging they make it look like you get more cherries than ice cream. Can we say "false advertising"?
I could go on, but I'd just get myself even angrier. Do yourself a favor, stay away from Thrifty Ice Cream. You'll get better value buying the buckets of generic store-brand ice cream.
- Pros: Same Thrifty Name
- Cons: Everything else
LESS FOR MORE !
by LINTECJERRY
Less product for more money seems to be the new American way of life. Corporate America has been scamming its customers at an alarming rate lately. I fear that the dumbing down of the general public is a frightning sucess. I am over 60 years old and have have been enjoing Thrifty Ice Cream for more years than memory serves. New managenment of Rite Aid has gotten greedy and has decided to value the bottom line far more than it's fine reputation that has been built over many years of good value to it's loyal customers. I am refering to the new marketing scheme of Thrifty Ice Cream. It recently sold a good product in a simple but efective package at a reasonable price. Now Rite Aid has changed the low cost packing to a more costly desinger package that is holding less product and is offered to it's unsuspecting customers at a higher price. Shame on Rite Aid for ripping off it's loyal customers. I continue to consume more than my share of ice cream from Rite Aid's competeters.
Best Ice Cream Ever!!

I love this Ice Cream I can't remember when I first tried this Ice Cream. I just know I was really little and everytime I eat this Ice Cream I'm in a great mood. I just wished they made chocolate chocolate chip because I'm not a big fan on of the chocolate maulted crunch , I don't like the crunch:(
- Pros: Taste, variety, price
- Cons: I want chocolate chocolate chip!!
Thrifty's is an old time favorite
by searchgirl7
I have been eating Thrifty's ice cream since I was about 5 years old. My family used to go there, and we all had our favorites. There was mint and chip (the best mint and chip I have ever had, no large chips like the fancier brands, just very finely chopped chips and creamy green mint ice cream), sherbert and my favorite at the time Rocky Road.
I still love going to Rite Aid to get ice cream and in comparison to the larger ice cream chains the price is right, yes when I was a kid a scoop was 15 cents but that was 30 years ago. My favorite now....Cotton Candy. a perfect blend of creamy ice cream with the taste of the real thing. I'll take Thrifty's anyday.
- Pros: Delicious
- Cons: Some of the flavors are only seasonal
The only thing that has changes is the price
by Spose
Thrifty ice cream is still made at a very small factory just outside of Los Angeles. The only thing better than a scoop of Thrifty ice cream at a Rite Aid Pharmacy is being one of the lucky few to taste it right off the production line.
- Pros: Quality, Flavor, Price
- Cons: No Seating, Poor Service, Small Napkins :)
Angelenos' favorite childhood ice cream for taste and price.

In Short
After Rite Aid acquired Thrifty Drugstores in 1996, corporate execs wisely decided to continue serving Thrifty ice cream, an Angeleno favorite. Modest ice cream counters still stand front and center in the remodeled stores. While the cylindrical scoops may not hold up to today's high-buttercream gourmet ice creams, Thrifty's price is right. The menu offer some new creations, like mild Medieval Madness (cream, caramel and chocolate chips). Standbys include rocky road, rainbow sherbet and pecan praline.
a late nite snack

i don't come to the larchmont location because it doesn't open 24 hours. for the rest of the 24 hour rite aid, thier ice cream takes you back to the year where you are the most happy. cookies and cream, vanilla, strawberry.. the prices are a dollar a scoop, and you'll be spoiled happy.
- Pros: flavors
- Cons: service
dont leave home without it

3 words for Thrifty Ice Cream-- it's fast, fresh and friendly!
- Pros: inexpensive, convenient, friendly service
- Cons: can be crowded, no tables or chairs
It's not gourmet Ice Cream...
by izelmorena
...That doesn't mean it's not good. The ice cream is not exotic, it's not named after famous rock stars, nor is it $5 a scoop. Thrifty's ice cream is the EXACT same as it used to be when I was a kid; A really good ice cream, at a really good price. It's not nostalgia that some people will accuse faithful followers of Thrifty's ice cream. It's that it still tastes just as good as it did back then. Some of my favorites: Strawberry, Mint-n-Chip, Rocky Road, Butter Pecan, and Pistachio Nut.
- Pros: Yummy Ice Cream, Strawberry, Rocky Road
