After politely suggesting to the owner, Michelle that customers would be tended to more efficiently if a host/hostess were hired, she commented that "we've been doing it like this for years." What's she's clearly not aware of is that this restaurant has notoriously bad service, mainly due to the fact that the servers cannot tend to their customers who are seated because they are constantly having to seat people. After suggesting to Michelle that prices can be raised to cover the cost of a full-time host/hostess, she refused to take our order and walked away. I urge people to not dine at S&W until they get their act together...which may be never, because "we've been doing it like this for years."

Just like Joe's in RB this palce can be packed and often is. The service is outstanding. The eggs benedict are to die for. People in the past have said their staff is rude. I eat there almost every day and it is consistantly dynamite. Parking can be tough, try the free garage at the end of the block off washington. this place is seriously great and I would be here anyway even though I am blessed to be a mile from this seriously great resturant Mark Braun Culver City
Pros: killer food
Cons: parking can be tough

This is my first time writing in on citysearch. I had a friend in from out of town and thought it would be nice to actually have brunch in Culver City, which is where I live. However, this experience was embarrassing and will never recommend this place to anyone. I understand that a restauarant is busy, as I have waitered in my college days. First, there is no hostess. You have to write your name on a list. The waitresses walking by were just nothing but jaded and shallow, as if people at the diner were doing them a favor. Tables were messy for 5-7 minutes until someone cleaned them up. After 40 minutes, I kindly asked if I could sit at the counter. The waitress responded with negative energey, "No, we have to ask the other customers first." Next, two people with pull just walked in and sat themselves at the counter. This was followed by the same waitress asking me to leave because I was causing a fire hazard. I was getting over a cold and was standing in a corner out of everyone's way. What a big disappointment for Culver City. Instead, I went to L'Hermitage which is literally behind the dinner. At that restaurant, my friend and I were greeted, sat promptly with water, bread and the like. In sum, I hope that the owner(s) of the S and W Country Diner Read this review. People in the country would not tolerate the rude behavior of the waitresses and the slow turnover of tables. Very disappointing and will never step foot in there ever again for the way that I was treated.
Pros: Location
Cons: Rude staff, long lines, cash only business

I've forgotten to bring cash here more than once and had to deal with crossing the street to get to an ATM. Nonetheless, their food is awesome, and the staff is always uber friendly.

I LOVE this restaurant, but you do have to have a lot of patience while waiting. Just to show why that is, though, here's a story for you: There's a diner right next door. My friend who grew up in CC says that it used to be open for breakfast, too, but everyone waiting for seating at S&W simply ignored it despite wait-times of over an hour, until the Diner stopped serving breakfast. ;) The wait-staff is friendly, and when they recognize you as a regular, they can be just the sweetest people ever. Another story: My mom & brother were visiting for my birthday, which I mentioned to the waitress. Next thing I know, completely on their own initiative, they're coming to the table with a plate of pancakes w/ whipped cream and a candle, singing Happy Birthday. :) Besides having great people, their food is great, too! A little on the greasy side, yes, but that's to be expected. Divine bacon, excellent waffles, and a "no rush, enjoy yourself" atmosphere complemented by down-home decor. Parking is a pain sometimes, but you can also park on side-streets and enjoy the walk over, and grab a Starbucks while you wait. MUST VISIT!
Pros: Staff, food, cozy ambience, great location
Cons: Long wait times at peak hours (but worth it!)

This restaurant has too long of a wait, and the food wasn't overly fantastic to be worth that wait. Also, if you want to sit outside, make sure that you tell them. The waitress sat someone else ahead of us outside, and when I addressed it, she said it's because we didn't tell her we were willing to sit outside (never mind that she didn't ask us!).
Pros: local
Cons: long lines

I've been here a few times, and while it's not great that it's cash only, if you get here early you can be seated quickly. When flying solo, you can sit at their counter. They have a neat corkboard where tips in bills from all over the world have been posted. I contributed my $2 Bajan from Barbados. The food's a bit greasy but very very tasty. Be careful during rush times as it gets extremely crowded here! There's a lot within walking distance but no parking lot attached.
Cons: cash only, no lot

this place attracts the long lines because there aren't that many breakfast place choices in the culver city area. the place has good but not spectacular food. the service is quick to accommodate the long lines.

Go early to avoid the wait! While the servers are very nice they are soooooooooo slow but we still go because the food is too good not to! The pancakes and make your own scrambles are my favorites and the food is cheap! S&W is one of my favorite breakfast places and worth the 20 minute drive and also the wait!
Pros: great food!
Cons: cash only, long wait
