Fresh fish for less and you're right on the Pacific
by Profundoz
This place is no frills. It's just grilled or fried fish and shellfish. It has picnic tables with breathtaking panoramic ocean views. Get there just before sunset for a special treat. You can bring a table cloth and bottle of wine or just go natural. ;)
Most negative reviewers are not taking into consideration that this is not one of Malibu's expensive restaurants, it is a fish market that also cooks fish. Nothing fancy but it's all fresh and all good. if you want more salt and pepper in your clam chowder or on your fries than just shake some on people! Sheesh! I guess if these people don't really like Malibu fish & seafood than that leaves more room for us that do.
- Pros: Best Malibu ocean view for less $$ - with fresh seafood
- Cons: The business attests to the popularity. Be prepared to wait
Fresh seafood, casual atmosphere
by Socalfoodfreak
If you appreciate fresh seafood, you'll appreciate Malibu Seafood, if you want a fancy 5 star chef/restaurant go down the street. They are 1st a fish market, they sell fresh fish straight from the docks - order the fresh fish. That's why they're there. They started cooking the stuff they sell, then they give you a picnic table to eat it at. When the crab is in, buy it. It's grand. Their rice pilaf makes a great addition to the crab, the lobster. Just like the fancy restaurants, you can pick the lobster you want. I think people expect a 5 star chef because it's in malibu. Not here. It's a fish market. Understand that, you'll understand the appeal. It's good, fresh fish. It's that simple. That's why there's a line.
- Pros: Fresh seafood, a nice day in Malibu
- Cons: parking, uncomfortable picnic tables, get it yourself service
Average and overrated
by deadedatdeaddotdead
I can't for the life of me understand why this place has such a great reputation. The food is totally average & greasy seafood. The prices are high when compared to the portions & the lines are atrocious. This is just one of those places that gets a good reputation for no real reason & people just feel like they have to say it's good because everyone else thinks so. Totally average food with decent views of the ocean, if that's your thing.
- Pros: relaxed atmosphere
- Cons: the food and crowd
Perfect lunch place for a weekend beach outing
by kiercemartin
This is a great stop-in for lunch on a beach day. The food is always consistent and what they lack in variety they make up for in freshness. I've been several times and have never been disappointed. If you go during the lunch or dinner rush, you can expect to wait a while, but with nice picnic-style open seating and good views of Zuma beach there's plenty to occupy your time. Their lot is definitely small, and I would recommend just grabbing a free parking spot along PCH, but other than that a good place with great views that won't make your wallet suffer.
- Pros: Great Views
- Cons: Limited lot parking
picnic like atmosphere
by OT1942
Not a regular restaurant. Just a shack with some patio dining and covered outdoor tables not conveniently located to where you place and pick up your order. Parking was extremely difficult and fee parking only on the side. Restrooms were located in a separate building outside the restaurant and fish market. We did not bother eating in this picnic style atmosphere but there were crowds of people waiting for what looked like greasy fish and french fries. There are much better places with a view of the ocean.
AllWas Great Except For The Fat Ugly Lady At The Pick-Up Window
by twohit
I have been to this location at least 50 times in the past. It is usually perfect. I took my wife there today and spent $50+ for lunch for the two of us. My wife thought I bought her an ice tea as I did myself but the cute counter gal didn' put it on our bill. As we were waiting for our food my wife went to the pick-up window and asked to get the ice teas. The Fat Ugly Lady At The Pick-Up Window gave them to her. When I went to get my food The Fat Ugly Lady At The Pick-Up Window asked to see my receipt. Not knowing why I handed it to her. She spent 3 minutes berating me on the fact that I never paid for the second ice tea. What a low class way to handle any customer especially one that has been there as much as I, not to mention the referals I've made. It was a beautiful day and the food was good though.
- Pros: Location, Location, Location
- Cons: The Fat Ugly Lady At The Pick-Up Window
Perfect. A must.
by abd1350
Love it here! This is exactly what its name implies: great Malibu seafood, always fresh. My family and I go here in the summer, bring a bottle of wine (because you can), and sit outside on the patio. It's so relaxing, since it's right by the water. Don't expect a classy place, because you won't find it here. This is just real seafood at a real place. This is a Malibu must for seafood lovers and the like. You may even see a dolphin or two. ;)
- Pros: Everything
Affordable seafood in Malibu???
by LDI1216
Malibu seafood is affordable and delicious... If you're planning on trying Malibu Seafood on a weekend, expect to wait in a seemingly endless line. I'm not saying that to scare you from trying it because I promise won't be disappointed! Try the basket of scallops and fries... Oh, and the New England clam chowder is out of this world! It's the kind of place you'd see on Diners, Drive Inns and Dives. So, don't expect to be waited on. Go there to enjoy the beautiful ocean views and wonderful seafood dishes!
- Pros: Great views, great seafood, great prices
- Cons: parking can be tough
Not for everyone
by tinkrbe1l3
if you're going to this place looking for fish fry similar to spots in the Crenshaw District, this is not the place for you. fish is beer battered or tempura style not seasoned corn meal. the fried fish, oysters, and squid (calamari) was not seasoned. Also, the squid was more fry less squid. The fries could have been better if they were hotter and had a little seasoning salt. the clam chowder did not wow us like so many other reviewers. we needed to add salt and pepper and it still was just ok. i definitely wouldn't return for the chowder. if you can't tell already, we like our food to have some kind of flavor. i'm sure the grilled and steamed dishes are better but i cannot attest to that. the best part of our meal was the crystal geyser pomagranite lemonade...but that doesn't say much for mailbu seafood does it? exactly.
- Pros: location and ocean view, highway parking, BYOB, tarter sauce
- Cons: fried fish, clam chowder, squid, fried oysters, flavorless food, price, cocktail sauce(???)
So Much Fun!

I had an early dinner here Saturday, after a wine tasting right up the street at the Rosenthal Tasting Room. My friends and I love Malibu Seafood. For around $35, my husband and I got more food than we could possibly eat between the two of us! The steamed mussels and grilled mahi mahi are fantastic, and taste just like summer! Bring along a cooler of beer and a table cloth, and prepare to feast! The views are fantastic and the casual atmosphere makes a perfect setting for hanging out with friends.
- Pros: Great atmosphere for a chill Saturday afternoon with friends.
- Cons: Don't expect fancy, it's all self serve.
