Great View for Lunch

by ellajoyce at Citysearch

Great place to impress out-of-towners for lunch, especially if they come from back East where the weather is always unpredictable and bad. The ocean view is awesome. The cumin crusted Ahi Tuna was good, but the portions seem a little small for the price (would have been nice to nestle it on a salad instead of just a plate). It's obvious they are trying to pay the high rent. But I must say I was greeted with a smile by the attractive Maitre "D" in front of my out of town guest, as if she was very glad to see us, and for me that's a plus. Dinner at night is romantic, but once again - pricey.

  • Pros: The View is awesome. Ample parking on PCH.
  • Cons: pricey - even for lunch.

Low-grade services and false promises

by ionixay at Citysearch

The view is probably the most beautiful thing you'll receive from this place. About 5 minutes after being seated, a man handed us the menu and said, I'm unsure who waits this table, but let me go find out. Fifteen minutes gone by, and still no sound -- no hi, no hello, no I'll be with you in just a moment or anything. Not until we walked away from the table that he, Omar, decided to approach us and ask us to come back to dine. We refused and asked to speak to the manager. The manager apologized and insisted that we stay with the promise of covering some of the bill -- which she did not.

We did ended up staying. I requested that we have another waiter and her replied was Omar is my best waiter and he would like to make it up to you guys.

This Omar guy, who does not acknowledge his customers for 20 minutes, is the best thing this so called "classic" restaurant has? According to the standard they claim to have met, this is not what I would call a "classic restaurant"!

Arrogant chef wouldn't even substitute steamed vegetables...

by BEB91316 at Citysearch

No substitutions...no substitutions...now, on Valentine's Day, when you don't exit a restaurant such as this for less than $300 including drinks, is it too much to ask for something cheaper than the item the entree is served with...or a cup of fruit instead of the lavender creme brulee? I kid you not...even the serving staff said that it's time for famed chef "Bijon," if that's how you spell it, to take his leave. I wonder what happened if his kids wanted maple syrup instead of some special molasses truffle topping on their disney shaped pancakes? No substitutions. Sorry Geofrrey's...you missed the mark big time on this one. You don't mass produce plates at those prices.

  • Pros: Service
  • Cons: Arrogant chef, prices, and special occasion mass produced food

Worth the drive

by lottedixon at Citysearch

The fact that I have to pass so many of my favorite restaurants along the way to Geoffrey's means I don't get there nearly often enough. Nonetheless, that is a fact I regret. Their ocean view rivals Moonshadows, Duke's and other Malibu favorites. Service is always exceptional and we enjoy spending time at the bar before sitting for lunch or dinner. As noted by another reviewer, the ahi is exceptional but lobster lovers will also appreciate the lobster in vanilla cream sauce.

  • Pros: Beautiful view and patio, great service, fun bar, beautiful drive
  • Cons: Long drive from most of LA

Geoffrey's

by liltamby5 at Citysearch

I had a great time here. The view is amazing and the food/drinks are great. I had the cumin crusted Ahi, which was just amazing and the bread rolls were delicious. The service was a little slow, but they were busy. Great date place!

Worst Food Ever/Worst Customer Service Ever

by jasoninla at Citysearch

I recently stopped into Geoffrey's on August 14th with a friend and her daughter. We wanted to have a light meal before driving home and ordered numerous appetizers, none of which were edible. I told the waiter how sub-standard the meal was and he apologized and then brought the check without offering to adjust the bill since we did not eat any of the food. Even my friends daughter remarked that her noodles and butter tasted funny. I called the next day and spoke to the general manager who was equally as unresponsive and said she would have the owner call. Six days later I have heard from no one. It's a shame to waste such a nice view with such awful food and such disregard for customers.

  • Pros: Nice view
  • Cons: food, service, customer care

Good, but not the best in Malibu

by singhalissa at Citysearch

Geoffrey's (pronounced "Joffrey's") is your quintessential Malibu restaurant: great ocean view, great service. The food is pretty good, but not the best. (Better local food, lesser ocean view at Beaurivage down PCH.) This is a good date, anniversary, special (but casual) occasion restaurant for the evening & a great lunch place for business. We locals eat here frequently. The last time I ate here was a few weeks ago, and I'd had occasion to eat identical appetizers (brie baked in pastry with stewed apples and gorgonzola) and desserts (tiramisu) at Beaurivage in the same week. Geoffrey's was very good, but Beaurivage was better. The relaxed ambiance at Geoffrey's is better. The meat dishes are very good, but the accompanying starch can be a little weird (especially with the dim night lighting) in its presentation. Tasty if you like the carbs. Geoffrey's is still one of my favorite restaurants in Malibu.

  • Pros: superb view, superb service, pretty good food (not the best)
  • Cons: chairs aren't that comfortable; valet service is mandatory because PCH parking is unsafe
