Great place to bring out-of-towners
by jls1521 at Citysearch
This is the best place in LA to bring people that are visiting--especially first timers. The ambiance is amazing. You see a really good mix of people. The crispy tuna rolls and cod are amazing. The service has always been great and everyone that I have ever eaten there with has had a great experience.
- Pros: Ambiance, Sushi
- Cons: Nothing
Best Sushi Ever!
by 1234jg at Citysearch
Absolutely fantastic sushi! I came here for dinner with an old friend who frequents this establishment a few times a week. He did all the ordering and my god, it was spot on. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was fantastic. The drinks here were fabulous as well. Very packed place, which is a good sign. Atmosphere was a great vibe, but the music was a bit too loud.
- Pros: The food and service
- Cons: Small bathroom
Sushi Lover

I am a foodie and have eaten at many many LA restaurants, and I have to say, I am always impressed whenever I eat at Koi. The food is delicious, and I have always been treated really well. On my recent visit, I tried several of their new dishes and love them all. For example, Salmon Carpaccio with truffles (and I usually do not eat Salmon) and the Spicy Crunchy Yellowtail Tartare (literally melts in your mouth). Request the back patio for great people watching. I'll definitely be back soon!
- Pros: Service, Food, Decor, People Watching
BROKEN GLASS in our mushroom salad
by wordofmouthlives at Citysearch
Last night I went to KOI with 5 people. We sat out back, in the patio. Service was ok I guess for what it is. Restaurant was about 1/2 full (it was a Friday night at 8:15pm).
My friend was about 3 bites into her mushroom salad appetizer and I kid you not, shattered a large piece of F**KING GLASS, about 2" wide I'd say based on all the small pieces that came out of her mouth, along with 3 or 4 linen napkins worth of BL**D. It was real bad.
The response to the situation was absolutely deplorable, as offensive as the incident itself.
The manager, who could barely put together complete sentences (I suppose getting high when you're bored at work will do that to you), tried to fix things by bringing her a shot of tequila along with the rest of our food. Everyone was stunned. About 20 minutes go by, people finish "eating" in our group and along comes the bill. When we inquired as to why we were being charged and not escorted out on a flying carpet, we were literally yelled at. A friend was literally confronted on the way out by the 18-year old hostess who kept saying it wasn't the manager's fault and that it has only happened once in 12 years.
Moral to the story, KOI should be avoided like the plague.
0 stars.
- Cons: BROKEN GLASS IN THE FOOD - PLEASE READ BEFORE EATING
A must try for all sushi lovers!

The decor is super slick and asian inspired which is what I like...When I go I usually go for Omakase where the meal is determined by the chef and highlights the freshest in season ingredients...I also like to have a "ty-tini" which is a martini made from TY KU (a sake based liqueur) AND the mango mochi for dessert YUM!....the service is good although it can be difficult to get a reservation, but well worth it...probably the best sushi in town!

Good sushi, very nice staff
by malibu_girl at Citysearch
I love sushi and japanese food. My boyfriend took me to Koi, and we loved it. The food was amazing, the staff was very nice. The food was coming out of the kitchen so fast that we finished our dinner in one hour (we ordered 6 dishes)! I have no idea why other people's reviews are so bad.
- Pros: good food, nice music, good date spot
- Cons: very expensive
We left before we were even seated
by SFgiant88 at Citysearch
I took my family there and had a reservation that I booked a couple weeks in advance. We arrived promptly for our reservation and were told that we would have to wait about 20 minutes. It was pretty busy, so that was understandable, . To make a long story short, after an hour of waiting, we left, were treated badly by the staff, and had a perfectly good night ruined by this restaurant. I've always wanted to try it, but considering how rude their staff handled everything, I will never return.
- Cons: Bad service
its just the hype
by casualcat at Citysearch
thats all i realized when i was there, it was all about the hype. the food was ok, but the service was horrendous. They were too cool for anyone else in that building and could care less about you, unless you were someone big. Its a really cool place to go, if they could just change the attitudes of staff.
Pretentious Horrible Service! Stay Away!
by trojanfromoregon at Citysearch
Ok there are some attitude filled places in LA, but this place wasn't even that great for how cool the staff thought they were. First off we had a reservation and we still had to wait an hour! And the hostess who tried to feign politeness got mad at me for asking about our table, even though I returned when she said it would be ready on 4 different occasions! A couple before us had waited so long they had left. They had a reservation too and were obviously there on a nice date that got ruined. No managers came out to quell the frustrated guests either. They couldn't care less. Plus the hostess forgot who we were after a while. We said our last name on the reservation which was Nguyen and since it's not pronounced the way it's spelled I guess it confused her. Basically she was just downright incompetent.
Food was good. Not amazing. The sushi was overpriced yes, not anything better than other trendy sushi places I've eaten at. And yes the spicy tuna on crispy rice is pretty darn good. The rice looks and tastes like a tater-tot. They have like one server for every ten tables and then a million busser/runners. So no wonder the service is spotty. Plus our Rebecca Romijn look-a-like waitress was all about the upsell and add-on fees. I don't care about paying, but I just felt a little sad for our world.
We were gonna go to club after dinner, but to be honest the whole waiting and pretentiousness really did destroy the mood for the evening. I will never return. I will tell everyone I know to stay away. Yeah I'm bitter. If you do go though try the spicy tuna and tater-tots.
Tila Tequila was there and got in before us. Her real last name is Nguyen. Isn't that kinda ironic? I hate her
- Pros: Food is good
- Cons: Horrible Staff thus overall Service
