The best food and service

by wine4me2 at Citysearch

The food and service at Cafe Pierre are great! It is my go to restaurant when my boss is in town, or my picky aunt.

Always a great spot for a wonderful glass of wine, and a great meal.

  • Pros: great food and wonderful wine lis

Love it!

by KMMB at Citysearch

My favorite splurge restaurant in town! The food is diverse and consistently wonderful. I also love their wine list, unlike many other area restaurants in the area I appreciate that Cafe Pierre offers a wide regional selection of wine at a semi decent price structure.

My only con is that on a weekend it can be down right noisy, but even then I enjoy my time here!

  • Pros: Lovely, diverse, consistent
  • Cons: loud

Good food.

by chudjr at Citysearch

Cafe Pierre was recommended to me as an excellent Manhattan Beach restaurant, so we tried it. It was not crowded on a Monday night, so we didn't have to worry about people at other tables. The tables are close to each other. All the food was good. The portions were on the small size.

It was a good restaurant. Not the best, but very good. If you are in Manhattan Beach and want to try a decent restaurant, give it a try.

Overpriced for what you get, Avoid on Friday Nights, Waiter didn't have a clue.

by TEAMJC at Citysearch

Have friends that have raved about Cafe Pierre, I personally would not go back. Food was average, and very expensive. The tables are so close together you could hear everyone's conversation and to add to that it seemed like our waiters butt was in our face the entire meal. Escargot very bland, masked by sloppy breading. Halibut was the special and was incredibly dry. Wine list is extensive and ridiculously high priced. Waiter had not clue how to pair a nice bottle with the meal. Know many other restaurants half the price and much better food.

  • Pros: convenience
  • Cons: seating-to crowded, food was below avg, wait staff unprepared

Sophisticated French cuisine and stellar wine list bask in a romantic South Bay bistro setting blocks from the ocean.

by Martha Burr at Citysearch

The Scene
For more than 30 years, this lively eatery has been a local favorite, blending sophisticated bistro fare with beach-y elegance. An updated modern interior sports startling red walls and banquettes under an arched cerulean ceiling, reflecting ocean light with plate glass and mirrors. Brazilian jazz segues into pleasant European electronica beneath the buzz of the casual but fashionable crowd.

The Food
Haute French Provencale food is authentic and artful, complemented by a perfect balance of Tuscan dishes and market-fresh California stylings. Half the menu offers classic dishes; the other rotates innovative seasonal fare. Baked goat cheese has a warm, creamy tang paired with crisp kalamata toast. Dungeness crab fritters are sweet and feather-light, alongside velvety fresh cauiflower soup. Fragrant wild boar ragout envelops rustic al dente papardelle. Beef cheeks--a true French classic-- are meltingly tender and rich. Transcendent rabbit confit braised in duck fat falls off the bone in succulent bites, each more savory than the lst.

familiar faces

by stastheboss at Citysearch

Cafe Pierre is the type of place where people feel comfortable. I have only been there once but could tell by the ambience and fellow diners that the locals that go there have "always' eaten there. There is a sense of familiarity and comfort when you go inside, the feeling that these people know good food and know where they can find it. It is the type of place, I feel, where you can tell the waiter you want "the usual." Cafe Pierre is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and it appears to be doing better than ever. I have passed by the place several nights in a row, and every night it is full. That's why I chose to finally dine there, after I realized that empty places usually are not the good places to get good food. I was correct in my decision to try Cafe Pierre... they have a collection of traditional French food, and you can find something for everyone to eat and be happy with. I went with my boyfriend and it was a great dining experience for a date... not necessarily an anniversary date, although others have said they went for that purpose. This is a kind of place where I can see my parents eating comfortably as well. All in all I would say it's worth every penny for the food and service.

  • Pros: good food, busy and prompt, atmosphere

Lovely!!

This is such a beautiful place to celebrate a special occassion or for a first date (you will definitely be getting a kiss at the end of THIS one!). It's a smaller place with a very intimate feel. Romantic atmosphere and tasty food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I can't wait to go back.

Veeeeery nice!

by akira101 at Citysearch

My gfriend and i came here for our anniversary last night and everything went very well. We just so happened to get a parking spot exactly in front of the restaurant. If we didn't, there's a parking structure behind the restaurant. i made reservations though i'm assuming most nights you don't need to. There were many seats readily available @ 6:30pm on a tuesday.

For dinner, we had two ice teas, crab cakes, skirt steak, half chicken, and the vanilla bread pudding (which was recommended in the last review). Presentation for everything was simply fabulous, honestly. Our service was attentive and everything looked great and most importantly, everything TASTED great. (cost of dinner: $61.00 before tip).

Overall, it's a great little place in a great little neighborhood. The ambience and service was great for any type of date. My gfriend was impressed! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
