The food was enjoyable, however for the incredibly high prices I had expected it to be a little more inventive and intruiging. most of the dishes were very straight forward, meat and side. It was ok, good service, etc but I think I will be looking for more affordable and interesting restaurants in the future.
Pros: Tasty food, nice environment, good service
Cons: Uninventive food, high prices

Went here in a group of 4 last week to celebrate a birthday. We ordered several courses, and the appetizers did not disappoint - the flatbread and pork belly were both delicious. I had the seabass for my main course, and although it was underseasoned, it was tolerable. The shortribs were great. My boyfriend (who is a chef) ordered the steak. When it came out well-done (he asked for it to be cooked medium), our waiter took it back to the kitchen promptly. Imagine our utter shock when he came back and told us that "the kitchen disagrees." I have never once in my life have experienced this -- especially when it comes to the indisputable fact that the steak was completely gray - you could not have even considered it to be medium well. By this point, my boyfriend was fine with sharing our other plates, so he sent the steak back and didn't make a big deal of it. However, when we got our check a little while later, the steak was still charged! My boyfriend argued back and forth with the waiter, who kept repeating that it was "their policy" not to remove food charges. The owner, who was standing nearby, NEVER came over to our table to rectify the situation. Our waiter asked that we not speak to her as long as he took the charge off of our bill - but I was appalled that she was so unyielding to an obvious problem, especially when it was one of the guest's birthdays! They didn't comp any of the wine or dessert on our $250 dinner, and it was embarrassing. I can honestly say that they lost a lot more than the $35 food cost of a sh--ty steak because no one in our group will be returning.
Pros: Cute interior, good servers, nice wine selection
Cons: Awful ownership, terrible "policies", bad parking

I went here for a sunday brunch and was really excited to finally find out what the hype is all about. We got seated at 1 after a 30 min wait, and they had already run out of 4 of the main dishes on the menu. The rice bowl was pretty good but the sandwich was extremely salty. The scone was pretty dry but the worst side was the crispy potatoes. They were not even the slighest bit crispy, seems like all they did was sliced up the potatoes, soaked them in stale oil and not even bother with a pinch of salt. On top of the mediocre food, the service was dreadful. They seemed pretty friendly to the locals, but everyone but the lady who took orders gave us pretty bad attitude. Especially a blond lady who practically denied us food. I definitely would never go back again and would advise everyone i know not to.
Pros: nothing
Cons: horrible service

What a bummer! This was my local jaunt & I used to enjoy going here weekly but no more. The food has gone down hill..think mediocre & very salty. But worse the service is unbearable. The wait staff are miserable, slow & have a lousy attitude. It's just not worth it!

I love it. The cusines is healthy and "good-for-you" without crossing over into the world of "I can't believe it's not chicken!" The ricebowls at lunch are a favorite, the ribeye or burger and all of the market fresh veggies are a dinner favorite. Expensive wine list. Great beer selection. Fantastic desserts. Sure - it can get loud, it can get hot, it can be crowded. But the food is worth it.
Pros: Food, Food and Food
Cons: Noisy, hot

the attitude is thick at this venice haunt. the food is only so so with the pretense of "all" organic. The wait staff are rude, unattentive horrible. It is just overall a restaurant that is overpriced with fairly interesting food. They are full of themselves though and the would be actress staffers have got to go. Why not try the new three square a block down with Hans Rockenwagner as chef. Much better!
Pros: whole grain pancake is good
Cons: everything else.

upscale venice scene, hip, some very good food with fresh ingredients... the desserts are wonderful, as is most everything... downside is the excruciatingly slow service, and a bit overpriced for the atmosphere and service (crowded, loud, cold, and servers with an attitude)... sunday brunch for 3 people was $75, and we did not get a lot of food (did see Hilary Swank leaving however) - so bottom line: trendy, hip, and cool bordering on pretentious. Small portions of food add up to "expensive" if you want a fully satisfying meal.
Pros: delicious gourmet food from fresh, natural ingredients
Cons: slow service, a little too expensive for the overall experience and atmosphere

What can I say, I love AXE. I have been going here for a long time. The food is very clean tasting without to many disguising sauces to cover the great taste of food when done right. The service is a little slow. The atmosphere is soho New York with a california enviroment setting with celebrities, funky artists and beach bums. I highly recomend the Warm Brownie basting in a warm cream of milk. This will melt your taste buds into sexual desire... Yum
Pros: Walking distance to great shops
Cons: service is a little slow

Me and my friend were attracted by the exterior and the signage of the restaurant, so, we decided to give it a try. It's a TOTAL disappointment! Super slow service-made us wait for almost an hour with no courtesy apology. A druggie server who work in slow-motion and always wondering around and act like he has no idea what's going on. By the time our food "arrived," it's about an hour later. This whole lunch experience cost us almost 2 hours of wait and unbelievably incompetent service. Putting down "have a nice day" on the check won't make up the damage you gave us in a Sunday afternoon. Axe Off~!!
Pros: cute signage
Cons: service, value

What looked like a trendy sunday brunch place turned out be the worst experience ever. My friends and I sat at our table for over an hour with nothing but drinks in our hands. The servers stood around and acted like they were indifferent of how the customers felt. Poor food presentation that is not worth its price. There is nothing impressive about this place, and it definitely does not deserve a 4.5 star rating.
