Not impressed

by abraz at Citysearch

I ordered 2 root beers, a Caesar salad, and two pizzas - the driver forgot the drinks, the salad had to be thrown out (dirty, nasty leaves), and the pizza was luke warm and the crust was dry as a bone - there goes $58 with tip...

Great pizza taste and quality, not so fresh

by travhead at Citysearch

I love pizza!!! And I have worked a lot of pizza in the past, making me have mixed feelings about the pizza here. The pizza is great, don't get me wrong. But when I spend $9 or so for 2 slices, I expect them to be awesome! So when I got them and they obviously looked and then tasted like they had been sitting under heat lamps for who knows how long, it didn't and doesn't feel worth it. Pizza is cheap to make and is worth throwing away when it gets old.

  • Pros: Great quality
  • Cons: Expensive; not so fresh slices

Service as cold as the pizza

by chicobear at Citysearch

I wonder if the white girl named Shannon mentioned below is the same hatchet-faced cashier who "served" me last night. Quite possibly the worst customer service I have experienced in some time. I didn't realize coming in and ordering a couple over-priced slices of cold pizza (not heated up - too much effort) was such a hardship for her, especially in this economy, but I was treated with such hostility I thought she might have mistaken me for someone strangled puppies with my bare hands. And then I had the nerve to stand around waiting for my receipt!!! She asked me "what the problem was" with a level of aggression usually reserved for paedophiles before I could meekly request said receipt which she lashed out that I already had it (I didn't)/ I know the next time I'm walking down Abbott Kinney and fancy a treat, I'll cross the street for beer at the gay bar. At least beer is *meant* to be served cold

Awesome pizza (sometimes), service is horrible (at the Pico location)

by svtman21 at Citysearch

This review is for Abbot's Pizza Company II, on Pico in Santa Monica; I haven?t been to the original location on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Their bagel crust pizza is fantastic and very unique, and their version of NY-style pizza is also excellent. The pizza is inconsistent though. You'll go one day and the pizza is great, the next time it's not. I went last Wednesday (1/28/09) and every slice I ordered was burned on the bottom and had clearly been sitting out for a while. Everybody there, mostly regulars, were complaining about it as well. We would have demanded new slices but the useless staff up front shrugged their shoulders and said they weren't making any more pizzas for the evening. The last time I went (Friday 1/30/09) I ordered a whole pizza in advance to make sure I got a fresh pie, and I instructed them that I would not pay if the bottom was burned. Hilariously they wrote "do not burn bottom" on the pizza box as a note to the cook. He doesn't know that he's not supposed to burn the bottom? That is pathetic. Anyway, this time the pizza was excellent but it took 45 minutes before I got it; they had told me 25 minutes. When I finally got it the lady told me that they thought it was for take-out, so my pizza had just been sitting there. Thankfully it was still hot when I got it, although they gave me NY-style instead of bagel crust which is what I ordered. Not wanting to wait for another 45 minutes to get what I wanted, I let that one go. The staff is generally dreary and unfriendly; they stand around the back area and pretend you're not there when you're standing at the counter. With Joe's pizza so close, why should I have to put up with all this? I may give the Venice location a try, I hear it is better, but right now I?m really frustrated with Abbot?s and won?t be going back for a while. It's too bad because when the pizza is made right it is excellent, but unfortunately that's not enough to overcome the many flaws of this place.

  • Pros: Excellent pizza when made properly, ample seating
  • Cons: Inconsistent pizza quality, terrible service, pricey

TERRIBLE SERVICE BRINGS THIS PLACE DOWN

by Trevor9 at Citysearch

This place used to be great. Although the pizza is still decent quality, for the price and the attitude of the employees it is definitely NOT WORTH IT.

Hey, Abbot's employees, if you don't like where you work or the customers you serve, get a new job!

If there is a white girl named Shannon at Abbots when you order, you are in for a RUDE awakening.

You'd be better off going an extra mile or so to Bravo at 2400 Main St, where the employees are actually respectful.

  • Pros: Good pizza for L.A.
  • Cons: Really bad service, expensive prices not worth it

Gone Downhill

by pattyann27 at Citysearch

I have to agree that this pizza is not what is used to be. It was very tasty and the crust delicious but the last time I got it, it was pretty much tasteless. Too bad.

Pizza to be scene not eaten'

by VBWsurfer at Citysearch

Having lived in Venice and eaten at Abbot's Pizza for years, I am sad to say that this pizza joint has fallen along with the rest of Venice...low quality, high prices, and basically just a place to be seen. Yes, it was the best pizza around and I would have fought tooth and nail to prove that. Today however, the food is sub par, and the employees are rude. However if you want to ride your fixie to a pizza joint that you can be seen at, look cool, and tell your friends back east that you are a Venice local, then Abbots Pizza is for you!!

Yawn

by foodiepdx0423 at Citysearch

I don't get the rave reviews for this place (and "best pizza in LA" really isn't saying much.) This place is just as mediocre, bland, and bad as the rest of them. The crust is doughy and chewy (hey, I'm a thin-crust gal) and the toppings are plentiful but the flavor really isn't there. Whenever I order pizza from this place, I have my oven heated up at home because they always undercook their pies. The cheese is barely melted in the middle and the crust is too chewy. Basically, it's a step up from Papa John's or Domino's (but barely.) Go for a cheap slice at lunch, but otherwise, skip it. You won't be missing much.

  • Cons: Medicore pizza, undercooked, bland toppings

Avoid Delivery - EAT IT THERE

by minnowisacat at Citysearch

If you eat at Abbot's Pizza... eat AT Abbot's Pizza. I get slices there all the time that are great. Just had a pizza delivered to my house... mistake. The pizza was chewy - the texture and taste were as if the dough was old. I called and told them and they had a second pizza delivered that was exactly the same. Total bummer. The salad was good though - mixed green with a balsamic vinaigrette.
