Stayin true to the roots

by hiphophoney85 at Citysearch

I work right down the street from this spot, and i can honestly say that it has become a fav! The crew here was first introduced to the Serving Spoon by the homie, and since then it is the new lunch spot. Amazing breakfast.. and well everything else. I definitely recommend this place.

No Complaints, Just Compliments!

Serving Spoon Reigns with the Crown of Divine Breakfast Spot! Dining aside singer, Raphael Saadiq, alone maintains my interest. But the food is what keeps me coming back. Boo, order Angie's Special #2!!!

Yuck! Hair in my food!

by ale25g at Citysearch

This was the first time I dined at the restaurant. When I told the hostess about the hair in my food she said she would take care of it. Then the server brought us our check. I was still being charged for the food. I asked the server about the hair in my food. She then said she was going to tell the manager. When the manager made it to the table she looked at me as if I was a criminal. She said "I already talked to my cooks and they said it was not theirs. My cooks are Mexican!" To sum it all up I had to pay for my food and with no apology. This tells me a great deal of a restaurant. If they will let that happen.... who knows what other nasty disgusting things they are doing in their kitchen?

  • Cons: Horrible customer service!

Very Disappointed

by bhamqt at Citysearch

I am a southern girl, raised in Alabama and Georgia. So when I read about this place on citysearch, I immediately called up my friend and we met there for breakfast that morning. Looking at the menu, we were both very excited about what was to come. After much deliberation, we chose the catfish filet with pancakes, salmon croquettes with potatoes, and a side of bacon. While waiting for our food, I must agree with previous posts, this place felt like home. The ambience was really chill and the music was nice. However, the food left much to be desired. The catfish was overbreaded with an awful after taste. The salmon croquettes tasted like bread filling. And the potatoes tasted like they were dipped in grease. The only thing that we actually enjoyed was the pancakes and the thick cut bacon.

Their motto states that there ain't no better breakfast. But I'm sorry to say, that's a lie.

This past weekend my family and I was there and we love it. My family came down from Houston and the moment we walked in smiles love and family was there greeting us at the door. We are from the south and we get ready to eat we don't like for people to have an attitude. And i must say you all had just the opposite. If anyone ever ask me were should they go to grab a bite to eat. Please trust me you all are number one in my book. Nikki and the lil dark haired lady that waited on us both times we came in they are as God placed them to be. So I as a USMC family member must tell you all thank you for serving your town. When my husband come home from Iraq, yes we will be back! God Bless Serving Spoon.

Down home, Southern-style eatery serves up hearty breakfasts all day and lunch specials like chittlins and oxtails.

by Mar Yvette at Citysearch

In Short
Since first opening its doors in 1982, this family-run restaurant has become known for its served-all-day, soul food style breakfast: Wings 'n' waffles entice while egg combinations feature a mind-boggling selection of meats, from turkey sausage and T-bone steak to catfish and pork chops. Daily lunch specials such as Monday meatloaf, Tuesday turkey wings and Sunday chicken with gravy are also a draw. Just be forewarned: The homemade biscuits are made on Saturday and Sunday only.

Wow!! I am still drooling from the great food!

by gollyrivas at Citysearch

I am new to the area and found this place on here. I read the other great reviews and hoped they would live up to the hype :) I am happy to report that I was more than pleased with my experience! I had a friend in town visiting and she still talks about our great meal there. The service was great! Our waitress Meme was very friendly and made us feel right at home. The owners even came by our table to see how our experience was going! It can't get better than that...wait.....did I mention complimenatry champagne on Sundays??!!! Overall I will definately tell everyone about this place. The food was to die for, the price is right, and the service was not delivered with a fake personality! I have found my new favorite spot to dine!!

  • Pros: Service, Menu variety, and nice tunes to eat to!
  • Cons: Crowded but what do you expect?!! It is worth the short wait!

Felt like home...

by just_eatin at Citysearch

I went with 5 of my friends and everyone was pleased..

I had the catfish, eggs (only the egg whites, which I thought was nice option to have) and pancakes.

My other friends who are huge fans of grits and french toast were pleased as well. One of the few places I've found that actually serve edible turkey and chicken sasauge!

Yum!

The only two low points were the chicken wings tasted a lil bland (or it was just time to change the oil?) and the parking lot was full....but it's in a shopping center with other businesses on a Sunday after church, so I could understand that...

There was a b-day celebration while I was there, and I got to witness MeMe firsthand shaking her groove thang to Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday"....felt like my momma's house on Sunday morning....only thing missing was the Gladys Knight playing!

Yeah, the wait is long on the weekend, but where isn't there a long wait on the weekends?

Make reservations....Duh!..

Then, BE there for the reservation time. ...(CP time is not honored here).. they WILL give up your table.

FYI, all the people in your group will need to be there before you get a table.

We had a 20-30 min. wait, but they did take our orders while we waited...I though that was a least a effort to make up for the wait, I appericated it.

No it's not fancy...but it was good food, good service, and good times...

I will be back....on a weekday when I'm playing hooky from work!
