Good Tailors
by NHP
I don't know why Elias has so many negative reviews. I go here all the time and am very particular. I am satisfied with the job they do, you just have to have a clear idea of what you want and give them instructions. I am very well versed in tailoring and fashion and do not think that they deserve such scathing reviews.
- Pros: Parking
- Cons: Expensive
Not Worth It
by karolyn
I have been going here off and on for a few years. I will not go back. I have had to take most things back because the legs are never even. Even when I've asked them to pin both legs they do not come out right. The hems have gotten sloppier as well.
The men that work in here are extremely rude and do not care about keeping their clients whatsoever. They shrug it off if a customer is not satisfied. It is not their concern.
I've continued to go back because it is a convenient location for me and they can often finish pants on the same day if needed.
Yes, the walls are lined with celebrity clients but very few are celebrities who are popular today.
- Pros: none
- Cons: many
Great Tailoring
by mollford
I love Elias and go here for all of my high end tailoring needs. I live in a building with its own cleaners and tailor; however, still drive 30 minutes to go to Elias.
- Pros: It is expensive, but worth it. I'll pay up for quality.
horrible!
by sklenoff
elias ruined my pants and a dress I took in to be tailored. When I asked for the pants to be fixed, they were very rude. Steer clear of this place!
Horrible work, and untrustworthy personnel
by todd12341234
I brought in a shirt that was to be taken in at the sleeves. They cut off too much fabric and ruined the shirt. They lied about who did the work, and lied about a phone call I had made to them to deal with the issue when I returned from vacation.
I had come to this place about 5 years ago, and had a similar experience. I had thought things had changed, but they are expensive, and do horrible shoddy work.
- Pros: none
- Cons: service, workmanship,
Unacceptable At Any Price
by RichardBlaine
Nearly destroyed my jacket and refused to acknowledge his atrocious and sloppy workmanship. The attitude and work are unacceptable at any price, much less the high prices he charges. I could have stopped payment on the check but didn't want the hassle. When I came home I Googled "leather repair tailor Santa Monica" and don't you know this guy's name came up! Sure enough many people have had similar experiences as me. Do not go to this place.
Horrible work, unprofessional, and rude.

This was my first and last experience at Elias.
I dropped off a pair of expensive True Religion jeans. They needed to have the leather horseshoe patch on
the rear pocket sewn up along one side. A thin strip of the patch was coming undone. Not a big deal at all.
When I returned one week later, I was horrified at the job they did. The thread color didn't match and the sewing was loose and frayed and uneven. And to top it off, when I slid my hand into the pocket to get a better look, I was shocked to find that they had sewn the pocket completely shut!
CLEARLY, whoever did this was either inexperienced or not paying attention or both. I was not happy at all and this was not what I was expecting from a professional tailor. But here it gets worse. I asked them to redo the job and to please pay attention so as to not further mess up the jeans. An older gentleman, who I believe is the owner, apparently took offense to my implication that they do poor work (which they did!) and got defensive, waving his hands around, making a scene in front of the other customers, and yelling at me saying that he didn't like my attitude and did not want my business.
Everyone was stunned, most of all me. They had CLEARLY messed up my jeans and had done a terrible job. BUT instead of trying to find a solution, or to correct the problem or at the very least APOLOGIZE, they choose to get prideful and upset.
Needless to say, I'll never go back there. Unbelievable.
- Pros: None.
- Cons: Rude, poor work, offensive people.
Elias and Jack are great to work with
by ssalloom
My wife and I have been going to Elias and Jack for about five years now. They have always done a good job for us and quickly. They are not the least expensive, and maybe not the absolute best tailors in Los Angeles-- but they are very good. They have never been rude or unfair. We have had to take back some pants which were shortened too much one time and they fixed them no charge and no attitude. Not bad when you consider they have done about 20 pairs for us. No person or business is perfect. People in Los Angeles can be very rude to people they see as below them. It is a vulgarity peculiar to this region of the country. I suspect that people who have had bad experiences with these guys probably mismanaged their approach. People who expect perfection will always be dissapointed and at times, in my opinion, unnecessarily mean spirited.
- Pros: quickness, friendliness
- Cons: expensive
Terrible job
by happy77
I've been to Elias a few times and have had from okay to terrible results. The first time I had a pair of jeans hemmed and they turned out fine. The second time I had a dress taken in along the seams and the dress came out a little snugger than when it was pinned but it was still wearable. Feeling somewhat satisfied, I took a silk top that needed many alterations including taking in the shoulders and changing the placement of seams and they did a terrible job. The stitches they placed in the delicate material to make princess seams were very large and obvious and made the shirt look cheap. The shoulders were taken in unevenly and looked awful as well. I didn't try to have them correct it as I had no faith in their abilities at this point. I took it to another tailor out of town who performed miracles and saved my blouse. Elias seems more like a factory where they put in the minimal effort possible and charge way too much. I don't recommend.
- Pros: fast
- Cons: they might ruin your clothes!
Save your clothes: there are better and more affordable tailors out there.
by hadfitz
I'm in the fashion biz so I should have known better... headshots of celebs on the walls should have been be the first warning sign. I had jeans and skirts tailored but they were sub par, and the skirt was ruined - worse than a job I could've had done at the local drycleaner, and it's DOUBLE the price! Elias doesn't do the tailoring anyway, he has a line of employees in the back doing the sewing, and they don't exactly instill confidence. One of my skirts had to be re-tailored -- what a pain esp bc I wanted to wear it that weekend. While I was there, a customer's tshirt hem was cut too short, and he got into a fight with a woman who wanted her hem re-done. Weird. People like him but I think they are the older shoulder-pad wearing crowd. Service is terrible. Save your clothes, go elsewhere.
