Even Omnivores will LOVE it!!

by CSMobileUser at Citysearch

I recently brought my small town, omnivorous Aunt to Real Food Daily. She was visiting me here in Santa Monica and was easily entertained by all the hustle and bustle. I was hesitant to even mention the fact that RFD is began. I thought I'd let her taste the delicious food and then shock her! It was great! She had the Taco the Town and was thrilled with the flavorful dish. I had the TV Dinner and did'n't miss the animal at all! I love this place and will continue to takemy out of towners here too! What better way to introduce them to the Westside lifestyle!?

Love the atmosphere, love the food

by tylerce at Citysearch

As a new vegetarian (one and a half years now, yay!) I have to say it’s hard to find a really good place to eat. There are places that are fine, and I can find something to eat almost anywhere, but I think I finally found a place that is actually really good. Very relaxed, casual atmosphere varied and inspired menu of all vegetarian and vegan foods. Service a bit slow but still ok, the staff is always very friendly. My non- vegetarian friend was surprised she had such a great meal.

Whether you are vegan or not, try this place!

by sammietorino at Citysearch

This place is so good. I crave it all the time and I'm not even vegan or vegetarian. The salad with the soba and the Caesar wrap are my favorite dishes. The prices are moderate but that's what you pay for higher quality food. Everything is healthy and you can't help but feel great walking out of there. Service has always been on point.

Not bad at all, will appeal to meat eaters with strong tastes

by butthugger at Citysearch

I've heard about Real Food Daily a number of times from co-workers and friends, vegans and non-vegans and felt that it was time to make a foray into the meatless underworld. Light wood colored and minimalist dining room greeted us today and luckily it wasn't crowded as we were seated promptly. I had the spring rolls, and my two companions had the salisbury seitan and the stir fry veges. I gotta say, as a die hard meat eater, I was definitely impressed by the flavors that were presented. Texturely you can tell the food isn't true meat, duh, but the flavors more than make up for that. My friend's seitan had a great tasting gravy with the wheat meat slices and mashed potatoes. The stir fry was tasty as well and the spring rolls were a little on the sloppy side. Not wrapped as well as it should've been. Hearty portions as well make this place a definite recommendation.

  • Pros: Surprisingly good flavors, healthy organic food.
  • Cons: There's no meat...malnourished vegans at next table made me wanna rub them with a steak

Rude service, Over priced food

by happybunny77 at Citysearch

I have given this restaurant ample opportunity to change my mind over the last 5 years, but I've finally given up. I have a friend who is Vegan, so we go to RFD Santa Monica every time she visits, and each time I say, "Never again." But, time goes on, and I decide to give them another chance. This last one was it for me. The staff are so contemptuous, it's enough to put you off your over priced food. The pretentious attitudes are enough, but it gets even worse when you order Nachos and Cheese and are charged $11, even if you have the 'audacity' to ask for no pico or guac on the side. Then, when we received our nachos, the extremely small amount of cheese ( I'm talking ONE tablespoons worth on a plate of chips) was cold, and the 5 nachosthat had cheese on them were then soggy. I am at a loss at to how a restuarant that does this stays in business. Please save your money and your positive energy and go somewhere that will give you a decent amount of food for your money, and a smile!

  • Cons: Rude, contemptuous staff. Very small amount of food for very large amount of money

even if you hate vegan...

by dthstar at Citysearch

if you've never tried vegan, you must eat here. they play w/ your taste buds w/ their eclectic mix of the most unheard of ingredients! you just feel healthier after leaving this place. their desserts (sweetened w/ only fruit juices & honey or nectar or something) are to DIE FOR! we usually eat here every wed- we have 4 main dishes to share then 4-5 desserts alone! everything is cooked like regular food (unlike raw vegan places) and trust me when i say pretty much everything on the menu is REALLY REALLY surprisingly GOOD! you just have to park a bit ways off in 1 of the structures nearby, but it's worth the few blocks walk just to experience this surprisingly-delicious & meatlessly-amazing place!

  • Pros: truly delicious health food
  • Cons: small place, long wait, no parking

RFD Makes it happen - delicious!

by marpop at Citysearch

When we are just pooped-out and tired after a long day's work, and we just don't have the energy to cook at home, we will drive over to RFD on Santa Monica Blvd - the food is hot and nutritious, satisfying and delicious - the wait staff is very friendly, there may not be a ton of variety to choose from, but there is still a 2-3 page menu of choices. Usually they combine things like tofu and tempeh and other soy products, to make meals that taste like there is meat in them - in a good way! There are salads and stir fries, and they create real nice old-world meals with squashes and pumpkins - great comfort food. Also, they deliver, so you can get that home-cooked meal delivered right to your home, for just a few bucks extra.

  • Pros: fresh, organic, price
  • Cons: parking

Really good food- Staff could be friendlier

by ladyvenice at Citysearch

I've never been made fun of or forced to wait like the review below me suggests- but yes, the staff could be friendlier.

The food is probably the best vegan food I've had in LA, and is clearly of high quality. I'm always happy with what I order.

The ambience could be better- I miss the old awkward bowls on the wall and the crazy color scheme.

It's all good.

by lablues at Citysearch

I have to say that I am only so so on the food. It is good if you feel like eating food that tastes like it is good for you. I am a junk food vegan myself ( I love my fries). The place is small and it can be drafty. I love sitting at the counter because you always meet interesting people there and have a nice chat. I also love most of the specials at least 75% of them. I think that they are awesome. I am a fan of the seitan with mashed potatoes and the club sandwich with avocado. I guess that I may be biased as I know almost all of the servers by name but I think the service is great. Servers in LA in general are only average so I don't know what all of the other reviewers are comparing it to. I love taking my daughter she has a good time and loves the food, by the way I think that they are expanding their space so it will be bigger.

  • Pros: Healty, organic, vegan
  • Cons: small drafty space

Inside Scoop

by wnicholas at Citysearch

Hello my dear health conscious friend,

The reason i chose to work there is because of it's organic and vegan menu. I would rather support something noble like that. I have currently graduated from college and therefore quit my waiting job to focus on advancing my career.

How does this relate to YOU? The majority (excluding the cooks, & ONE of the hostesses) of the employees there MAKE FUN, of cusomters to the point where they actually make them wait, TO bother CUSTOMERS THEY DON'T LIKE, for e.g. a customer who might have been agitated because of holding for 8,10 minutes). I have regularly witnessed some of them make fun of customers who call to order take outs, and give them an attitude. Also, their tofu, and tempeh are of the cheapest quality in order to cut down on costs. (A surprisingly big amount of the food there, is INORGANIC, because "they couldn't find organic produce" of that kind"

STAY AWAY! The food is healthier than mcdonalds, and many other places, but you better stay away because this place will bring you bad energy, and destroy your expectation of such an "organic" "vegan" restaurant.

May you honor your soul, and those around you.

Peace.
