Great atmosphere, so-so service
by Kaitlyn918
I was fantasizing about sweet tea and the oppressive humidity that characterized my roadtrip through the south this summer. Thought the Georgian looked like a nice place to reminisce. Dined here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't very busy but the service was dreadfully slow. Iced Tea was overpriced. However, the location and beautiful front patio are appealing enough to bring me back- except next time it'll just be for an evening cocktail..
- Pros: Location, outdoor seating
- Cons: lunch service left something to be desired
Reasonably-priced and clean hotel with an ocean view...
by freebie_grabber
Don't expect any frills with the Georgian Hotel. The standard rooms are small and the hallways are narrow. Due to its older architecture, the valets are unable to wheel luggage carts all the way down to the curbside. If you want ice cubes in your room, you need to call the front desk. Parking is expensive -- use the cheap city lot around the corner on 2nd Street. One nice feature, however, is that the entire hotel, including the outdoor verdanda, is 100% NON-SMOKING thanks to a recent Santa Monica city ordinance. You're within a two short blocks of the (obnoxiously noisy and crowded) Third Street Promenade and the S.M. Pier, and you're right across the street from the ocean. The hotel also offers express check-out via your television's remote control. Overall, The Georgian Hotel is a reasonably-priced and clean hotel with an ocean view, and offers a cheap alternative for pricier hotels like the Loews and Shutters On The Beach.
- Pros: Close to everything, clean, 100% non-smoking
- Cons: Small, parking is expensive
Art deco beachfront landmark with a history as colorful as its facade.

The Scene
Sitting on one of the city's most coveted, palm-lined plots, the Georgian is a short walk to the restaurants and shops of the Third Street Promenade and the historic Santa Monica Pier. Back in its heyday, a patient onlooker could spot Clark Gable savoring a martini or Carole Lombard listening to the strains of jazz on the ocean-facing veranda. During Prohibition, the hotel/speakeasy was a hot spot for both the famous and infamous--Fatty Arbuckle and mobster Bugsy Siegel were familiar faces.
The Details
The turquoise-and-gold building with art deco charm houses 84 rooms and 28 suites. Rooms come with freshly ground Starbucks coffee, complimentary shoeshine and goose down feather comforters in the suites. Hungry? Stop by the hotel's Speakeasy Restaurant. Warm earth tones and polished wood offer provide Zen-like relaxation in an elegant home-away-from-home setting.
Santa Monica Treat

The Georgian offers a little of everything. A classical hotel with ocean views. The best place to have a morning breakfast and greet the day. All my employees loved staying here.
- Pros: close to beach, shopping area, easy access
Beautiful but...
by Eshta
I was really looking forward to staying here but was sadly disappointed. Because of its age, I didn't expect a modern hotel experience. The rooms are small and the plumbing is noisy (both to be expected) but I didn't expect to be woken up regularly by other guests, the stairwell doors slamming shut or by people yelling below in the street at 3am! I am not a light sleeper, so I can only fathom that the walls are very thin! Also, I hate to say it but the shower in my room reminded me of a cheap motel shower (it sprayed everywhere and was coming out of the wall) and the bed was quite uncomfortable. There were other issues, too. The staff is wonderful and the decor/veranda is gorgeous but I would not stay here again unless they changed things. Georgian, you are so beautiful, please fix this!
- Pros: Excellent service, Beautiful lobby, Romantic veranda
- Cons: Valet only, Small rooms, Noisy
Really nice, and nicely real!!
by starman
The Georgian continues to amaze. Where else do they remember you and actually interact with you as if they TRULY care if you have a good stay. From the maids, to the valets, to the servers, to the front desk, everyone has a smile and goes out of his or her way to help make things better. And there are no better sunsets than from their veranda.
Bring back the lobby espresso, please.
If you can afford a suite, it's worth the price.
- Pros: staff, smiles, location
- Cons: noisy elevator, slow elevator, small TV in std room
Nice Ocean View

The place is old, the elevator is slow, but it has a great balcony for drinks and good service. Try to stay in the suite or at least stay in one of the top floors for a better view.
