What users are saying:
This coffee chain is not as popular as its Seattle-based competition, but quality and flavor fills every cup.

The Scene
This regional chain is run by a coffee family that's been in the bean biz since 1912. Most locations are bright, inviting spaces, an ideal spot for shoppers in need of a pick-me-up as well as businesspeople seeking a java pit stop en route to the office.
The Food
Though the beverage menu includes teas and hot chocolate, the main attraction is the coffee. The smooth house blend (used in all espresso drinks) is a deep, full-bodied brew. Diedrich also carries single-bean roasts from Mexico, South America, Indonesia and Africa, including the rare Yemen Mocca. Espresso-based drinks include the customary concoctions, including lattes, cafe au laits, and mochas. The house cappuccino is a more potent variation than other chains, with a higher proportion of coffee to foam. A selection of Il Fornaio baked goods, from modest muffins to decadent pastries, rounds out the menu.
Coffee kept Real.

All and more of the "pizzazz" of Starbucks, sans the lack-luster, commerce-driven offerings. The Diedrich's Coffee in Brea is especially adept at consistency and quality.

Most Diedrich stores a extremely clean, and well staffed. There coffee tastes full bodied without brewing it too strongly.
- Pros: great coffee
- Cons: expensive
Depends on which one you go to

I used to actually work at a Diedrich's. Great place to hang out and get a good quality cup of coffee. The only problem is be careful which store you go to. The turn over is so high that you have people that don't know how to make instant coffee making you a latte!
Poetry & Latte

Diedrichs has a rich tradition as an old style coffeehouse with hot java, poetry readings and folksy open mic nights.
Diedrich-Java For the People

Diedrich Coffee like no other coffee shop has character and promise. It has outstanding quality coffee from around the world, to Kenya - a bold and berry African coffee, or to HueHuetenago- a mild coffee from Guatamala with a chocolate finish. No other coffee shop can compare to Diedrich's legendary service as well. The first Diedrich's located in Costa Mesa has a wonderful front patio filled with the history of the store and the area. The customers remember Carl Diedrich, the entreprenuer who started it all serving coffee out of his garage, and of course providing his legendary service to all customers.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Quality Coffee, Legendary Service
- Cons: not enough in CA
