Great quality fresh sushi in a neighborhood setting

by butthugger at Citysearch

Blo ws more expensive places like Sushi Roku outta the water. Nothing fancy here, just great quality fresh sushi. If you're used to the normal sushi around town, then this is a place to go to re-awaken your taste buds. Average prices for sushi was about $5.50 to $6.50. They had a dish of fried shrimp heads, great stuff. They have all the normal sushi cuts and a few rolls, nothing fancy though which is probably good so as not to take away from the quality of the fish. None of that orangey Atlantic salmon that we're used to. This salmon was a reddish see thru color that redefines salmon for me.

For a party of four we spent about $100 each and would've spent more if we weren't full.

  • Pros: Awesome sushi!
  • Cons: Small place, can get crowded and has a wait.

The only sushi place for me

by kurtkozma at Citysearch

This place is simply the best sushi resturant I have ever been to: great fish, generous portions. Nothing ever frozen. The owner picks out the fish himself every day. the place is full of Japanese, so that should tell you it's the real deal.

awesome authentic sushi

by dthstar at Citysearch

ok........ if you really like or appreciate fresh, good-quality sushi, then this place is it. they're not open every single day and there's only street parking (if you're lucky), but the sushi is great. i don't speak too highly of most sushi places, but this place is the exception. i'm not into that new-agey/warm-rice sushi b.s., and i hope whoever's reading this isn't either, and they don't serve that type of sushi here (thank GOD!)- this place is runned by japanese people & japanese sushi-men- NOT by koreans! so you know it's authentic.

  • Pros: authentic sushi
  • Cons: not open mondays

NOT my favorite sushi place

by marpop at Citysearch

I only went once, and sat at the counter - I ordered the usual (for me) Salmon, Tuna, etc. - the Sushi chef cut my salmon sushi very poorly, leaving all sorts of blubber and skin on the salmon. Now I have been eating sushi for many years now, and never have I ever been handed a piece of sushi with large portions of blubber and skin - this might be acceptable in Japan, but not over here - it bummed me out because I had to say something so he'd cut it off (trim it up for me)... oh well... I found the quality to me fair otherwise.

  • Pros: location (wilshire right next to blockbuster)
  • Cons: quality

Unpretentious and delicious

by tiffanym6 at Citysearch

I've walked by this place many times but never thought to go in (it doesn't look like much from the outside). However, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out after a friend recommended it. We were delightfully surprised at the quality of the sushi and the friendly service. This place is great for a date or a quiet dinner with a friend, but the space is too small to be suitable for large groups of people. We will definitely be back the next time we go out for sushi- this place may not have the ambience of En Sushi or Katsuya but the food is much, much better.

Best Sushi EVER in LA

by monicatoyoda at Citysearch

I'm Japanese and I've eaten alot of sushi all my life - so trust me when I say their sushi is as good as a local sushi place in Japan = very think long pieces of fish, the freshest that melt in your mouth, layed mounted over a small portion of rice. The chefs are older Japanese men (traditional in Japan that the best sushi chefs are older and men - sorry no discrimination here intended). You must sit at the counter though. The sushi served at the tables unfortunately isnt the same quality.

Good sushi, so-so service

by dmenkes at Citysearch

When I ate here for a first date, I have to admit I was focusing more on the girl than the food. Looking back, the food was decent, there was little to no parking in the area, and the staff could've been more attentive. Their rolls were decent and the fish quality was okay, but nothing outstanding. There are other places just nearby that I would hold in much higher regard.

  • Cons: bit cramped

The hole-in-the wall spot you're looking for

by gcarroll at Citysearch

Stumbled across Sushi King, and was extremely surprised at how good it was. This was clearly where the 'in-the-know' sushi fans who don't like crowds go. I (Mr. Spicy Tuna Roll) was clearly outclassed, which was a good sign. Really fresh, generous nigiri and some amazing non-sushi items (try the blackened halibut).

  • Pros: Fresh Sushi, Strong non-sushi menu, Friendly service
  • Cons: Tiny

My favorite sushi place

by hamachibelly at Citysearch

I always like going to Sushi King - decided to write my first review. I'm picky about my sushi - I've never have had bad sushi there. Huges pieces, fresh fish, very reasonable prices....isn't that what it's all about?????

I've taken lots of friends there and everyone has liked it very much....especially the house special sea bass and the to-die-for green beans. I always have such a great experience there. The personnel is always friendly as well!

  • Pros: Value, Quality, Friendliness
  • Cons: Occasional waiting

Quant Restaurant, Great Sushi

by bobrayburn at Citysearch

The restaurant is rather small and not super fancy like some sushi places around the westside or Beverly Hills. I personally would rather great food at decent prices and that is what you get at Sushi King. The sushi is very fresh and they don't cheap you on the size of the pieces of fish.
