THE PREVIOUS REVIEWEES MUST NOT HAVE EATEN AT THE SAME PLACE I DID...IT'S VERY GOOD!

by mbfn

I don't know where some of the other reviewers ate, but everytime I've been here the food has been great and the service very good. It's always busy especially in the evenings, and if someone was expecting a really high end restaurant maybe that's why they were disappointed because it's not that kind of place! It's great for reasonable priced meals, nice neighborhood spot that's good for meeting a friend or family outing that doesn't cost an arm and leg.....which should be very important these days! I've had various dishes and liked every one of them!!

  • Pros: CLOSE TO HOME, EASY TO FIND, QUICK SERVICE
  • Cons: NONE

Used to be good, now they got a 'B' from the Health Dept. and I am gone.

by GarySimmons

There is no excuse not to get an 'A', its not that hard. They got a 'B' from the Health Dept. and at night, they used to take it down to hide it from customers. I no longer eat there. There are better places in Santa Monica.

  • Pros: Its close
  • Cons: They got a 'B" from the Health Dept.

Never again. Terrible service, mediocre food

by chefeclaire

I only ordered two things, so I can't give an extensive review, but unless i ordered the two worst things on the menu, I can't imagine anything else there is worth going for. The spring rolls were greasy, the filling totally bland, and the dipping sauce cloying sweet. The squid salad looked like it was made with week old lettuce and the vinaigrette was way too sugary and not at all spicy. The squid itsself was tender, but should have been cold in a salad and was warm, wilting everything around it.

The service was TERRIBLE. My waitress didn't come to my table once, was on her cellphone the whole time, and I had to get up three times to ask for more water. I don't think I've ever left a zero tip until today, but there was no way I was paying for her "service" while she yakked on her cell and ignored me.

Try Toi down the street. WAY better food, service and atmosphere. I would never go to Thai Dishes again or recommend it to anyone.

  • Cons: serivice, food

Gone downhill

by Breville

I was disappointed to find that Thai Dishes, which used to be one of the best Thai restaurants in town (5 years ago), has gone way downhill. I recently ordered the coconut milk soup, pork larb salad and beef with broccoli and they were all disappointing. The quality of the meat is terrible. The pork was grisly and the beef was a cheap cut and tough. Also, there was very little beef vs. broccoli, which was also overcooked. I also recently ordered one of their house specials, the shrimp with green beans and red beans in a red curry paste and that was not executed well either. The green beans were overcooked, the shrimp was small and tough and there were only about 4 shrimps in the dish. Management must be suffering financially because they are skimping on quality ingredients and a good chef. What a shame.

  • Cons: overcooked food, skimpy on the meat, slow delivery service

From the Freezer to Your Plate

by heels82

Want to feel as sick to your stomach as I do right now? Then head on over to Thai Dishes. Feel like eating low-rate fast food at restaurant prices? Then head on over to Thai Dishes!

Thai Dishes, where every food that could possibly originate from a can, does! Only at Thai Dishes. The carrots? Canned. (And cubed! Thanks for cutting them carrots, giant machine 12,000 miles from here) The peas? Canned. (And extra dry! Thanks, long trip from a dilapidated farmhouse somewhere in the Urals!) The food? Nasty.

Save your money. Eat a Twinkie. You'll feel less disgusting afterwards.

  • Pros: Ambience is fine.
  • Cons: Food is godawful.

Thai mini-chain with a consistent menu and friendly atmosphere.

by Contributor

In Short
The original Santa Monica location has been attracting loyal Westsiders since Day One, and its satellites--located from Pasadena to Redondo Beach--are also rousing success stories. The dining rooms are comfortable, the pace is brisk, and servers are congenial and efficient. This is a great spot for families and groups. If you're on the run, opt for takeout or delivery. Geared toward American palates, this Thai food is fresh, satisfying and not too spicy.

Greates Thai restaurant I have been to, and I have been to thai rest's in Australia, Thailand, NY etc..

by milesloeb

I have been to many Thai restaurants around the world and I accidentally found this one while driving on Wilshire Blvd. I decided to try it and have been going there with my girlfriend for 3 years now. I lived in Europe, Australia, New York, DC and here in LA and I love Thai food and been to Thai restaurants in many cities throughout the world. this one is truly the best one I have been to. And on top of all it is very inexpensive and very clean.

The menu is very extensive and the portions are very big. The only con may be that the service can be a little faster but that is rarely a problem. I highly recommend it.

Best Thai Food on the West Side.

by Twisted06

I had a office lunch for 20 to plan and I had to impress our out of town guests, Thai Dishes sounded great.

Everything was wonderful, the steamed dumplings were killer, the pad thai noodles were awesome and I could live on the pineapple fried rice. One of the best parts was that they delivered. If you haven't been here you need to try it, the prices are very reasonable. I will definately make it one of the office's regular eating places. They also have killer Thai Tea.

  • Pros: The food was great and it was very affordable.
  • Cons: None.

One of our favorite locals!

by molly_us

I love this place, although I think of it as a good 'can't be bothered to cook' pop in rather than a destination for a planned dinner out. That said, you often see couples on dates or families celebrating an occasion. Dishes are tasty and the menu is big, but best of all both food and alcohol are super inexpensive ... I can get a nice glass of wine with my meal for about four bucks!

  • Pros: Friendly service, inexpensive.
  • Cons: None I can think of.

Great food. Good price. Attentive Service. Simple but clean atmosphere.

by edcalifornia

This place was simple but great. We order 3 dishes (for 2 people) and it costs us about $25. Food was great, service was friendly and attentive. First time I've eaten there, but I'm definitely going back.

  • Pros: Food. Price.
  • Cons: Parking might get complicated on a weekday.
