absolutely fell in love with this place!
by dsung
I just went there last saturday with my friends and my family,
We all heard this place was great so we were expecting great service
and even greater food. With no doubt, we got all that we expected.
The food was great, my favorite is the Dragon Roll (ask for it)
The workers greeted us as soon as we walked in the restaurant.
I most definitely recommand this place to everyone else that
likes to eat sushi/japanese food!
We all are looking foward to go there again soon!
No more All U Can Eat!
by BeachGirl67
I went to Hakata the other night & they have discontinued the All U Can Eat!
On a positive note - they remodeled a bit (no more 80's pink & teal) & lowered the lighting so the atmosphere is nicer now. The sushi we ate was excellent, fresh & plentiful! The Onion Mix (with Albacore) was excellent & so much fish! All the rolls were amazing as well!
- Pros: Good fresh sushi
- Cons: Still lots of TV's
best sushi place hangout in santa monica

ok, disregard the dishonest and hating reviewers below.
Hakata sushi on wilshire is where I go with friends or with my dates.
The sushi is fresh always. I've never had bad sushi at Hakata.
believe it or not, I had some bad ones at Koi or sushi roku a couple of times.
And trust me, I eat sushi once every week.
Compare to other "hot spots", the prices are really good.
The service is always awesome. There were times when the staff knew most of the cutomers' name.
What I love is the fact that they have TV's everywhere so you can watch any games you want.
When I come alone, I sit at the bar during happy hours and cool my days off with $2 kirin draft or $5 hot sake, watching games. There were bartenders named Alex and Aki. They always take care of their customers. Awesome service, can't stress that enough.
Lately, I think they are trying to change a little bit. And they are getting busier every week.
So, if you want some good sushi on west coast, stop by Hakata.
You won't be disappointed.
- Pros: service, price, taste
- Cons: none
Superior Sushi & Customer Service
by JohnPark777
Just last Wednesday, I took my entire family to Hakata Sushi, and it became an unexpected, wonderful night. As soon you enter into the restaurant, there is someone that greets you and your entire family, creating a very comfortable, and professional environment.
The sushi and sashimi are all very fresh, and you are clearly able to taste the high quality of the cusines. It is truly very rare for a sushi restaurant to meticuously prepare each dish with precise elegance and satisfaction.
All of the waiters and waitresses were all very friendly and helpful, bringing you everything that you need, and assuring your stay as a memorable one. If you want to take your family, friends, co-workers, or spouse, Hakata Sushi is a perfect choice and one that you will not regret.
Best Sushi Happy Hour!
by mrstroutster
My boyfriend and I went to Hakata last night for late night sushi happy hour. We showed up when it started at 9 pm. It goes everyday from 4-7 and then from 9 to close. We had a great experience with both the food and the service while sitting at the bar. We enjoyed $2 Kirin draft beers and $5 large hot sake. The spicy tuna roll, real crab california roll, and albacore sashimi were amazing. The food is all priced around $4, $5, and $6. We had dumplings and calamari (which was cooked in tempura batter) and both were very good as well. The staff was friendly and you can' t beat the quality and price. We will be returning very soon!
Best Sushi in Santa Monica!

Yum! I tried Hakata for lunch last Thursday and it was awesome. Really nice service and fun ambiance. Recommend the rainbow roll! The fish tasted fresh and it was very tasty. Their bar also looks like fun for after work. Can't wait to return!
- Pros: Convenient Location
- Cons: none
Not worth it
by scprp5
My parents used to love going to this place when they first got married, so I figured my boyfriend and I would try it out since we both love sushi. I was surprised by the mellow atmosphere of this "sports bar." We were seated promptly in the nearly empty restaurant, our drink orders were taken right away, although the waiter had to go check if they carried the type of beer I wanted, which they didn't. Our food order was taken, and they were more than happy to accomodate our request to substitute the spicy albacore roll for the california roll that came with the sushi combo entree we ordered. We also ordered seaweed salad and a side of inari. Miso soup and cucumber salad were brought right away, soon followed by thhe inari. The good service stopped there. It took more than 30 minutes for the sushi combo to arrive, even after we asked someone to check on it and were told that it was coming right up. And the waiter had forgotten to bring the seaweed salad. When we reminded him, he brought us what looked like a regular green salad with tomatoes and a little bit of seaweed on top. I told him that there had been a mistake, but was informed that that IS their seaweed salad. One good point is that it wasn't a problem to cancel it. I thought the quality of the sushi was just fine and a generous portion of fish atop the rice. But my boyfriend, who knows more about sushi than I do, thought the quality was all that great. We wrote a note on the receipt that we would not be repeat customers.
- Pros: relatively quiet for a sports bar
- Cons: slow service, less than superior sushi
Since 1970, this sushi and sports bar has been luring in locals with the big game, sake bombs and an easygoing scene.

In Short
Got a hankering for sushi and also feel like going into a time warp? Then step right up to this sprawling sushi restaurant and sports bar, where everything from the faded artwork to the old-school bartender at the tiki-style bar will have you swearing it's 1974. Well, almost everything. The large plasma screens are decidedly modern and the prices aren't exactly a throwback to the disco era, but service is friendly, the food is there and hey, the game is on!
