Worst Chicken Noodle Soup EVER!
by mgh
I've had several things at this deli in the past, but today was the worst! I have a cold and stopped in for a container of $7.50 chicken noodle soup. they packed it up, I get home and find that there is not one piece of chicken in the soup! more than half broth and 1/3 noodles. I never write on these sites, but I'm so pissed off I just had too! Won't get taken like that again!!!
Don't buy the water bagels from the Deli!!
by keikozone
On 9/23/09 I just bought 2 water bagels from the Deli in addition to other items. The counter guy got them from the plastic bagel box on top of the Deli Counter. I got home, very hungry, and the water bagels were VERY, VERY DRY and very hard - my first tip-off that they would be bad!
I was pretty upset knowing that my dinner was ruined. I guess I know now why people go directly to Bagel stores in the area. They must have had these water bagels for at least a week; must be slow business now since economy is down and the bagels from the Deli are not moving much.
So beware, my best advice is to go directly to a Bagel store that makes them fresh! Which is exactly what I did today and got myself some fresh, soft bagels - they were wonderful!
- Pros: DRY, HARD WATER BAGELS
Good sandwich, good Slaw, big portions
by hcstraub
The half a turkey sandwich is fresh carved turkey breast, the slaw is excellent and the rye very good. I would compare with any deli outside of NY. The portions are huge, and the service was outstanding. We had at least 3 people filling our drinks and checking on us.
This is a great local joint if you want good deli.
- Pros: Great turkey, slaw and Rye
- Cons: inside is a little dated
Izzy's "Isn't"
by mhb1954
This deli is dull. The matzo ball soup is totally unnoteworthy, the deli corned beef is from a slab or package and it's just plain BORing. The brisket is almost flavorless and the dipping sauce for it, au jus, is like water. This isn't a New York deli. It's a west coast wannabe a New York deli deli.
Thanks
- Pros: Friendly staff
- Cons: Boring, dull, flavorless corned beef and brisket dip
Everything you could want from a Deli
by edlinurena
I love the fact that everything is served in such big portions for such a reasonable price. It's a great restaurant to visit during passover, thier Matzoth-balls are amazing! This Deli truly lives up to its reputation, because their sandwiches are extremly overstuffed!! I will definetely go back because this is one of those rare restaurants where your dollar goes a long way.
- Pros: You can stretch that dollar
- Cons: They're never closed so you'll be there 24/7

Best Deli in LA...By Far
by FoodMaven777
Izzy's Deli is by far the best deli in LA. Not only is this my opinion, but the Food Network selected it as the best deli on the West Coast. It is totally an authentic New York deli! The food is delicious, the portions are huge, the prices are extremely reasonable for the massive amount of food you get, and the staff is welcoming and friendly everytime I go! I often have the tuna melt and french fries, which is my favorite, but everything from the wraps and salads, to burgers and corned beef and pastrami sanwiches are fabulous. I have always been overly satisfied with my meal. I bring people there all the time and everyone is always happy! I definitely recommend Izzy's...it's the best deli in LA...by far!
- Pros: Excellent food, warm and friendly service, totally authentic atmosphere, open 24 hours, valet parking
Since 1975, this all-night Santa Monica deli has been serving overstuffed sandwiches among walls splashed with NYC posters and signed celebrity photos.

In Short
Bringing a little bite of the Big Apple to Santa Monica is Brooklyn native Izzy Freeman. While this is no new news to locals, the roomy hole-in-the-wall deli has been offering up everything from pizza to marinated herring to pile-it-yourself baked potatoes long before "Saturday Night Fever" was retro. Looking for some kosher vittles? Menu mainstays like the matzah ball soup [Insert Yiddish exclaimation here], and, of course, meaty New York-style deli sandwiches are here for the taking. Want to know about the many framed celebrity photos and faded NYC posters lining the walls? Ask the overworked yet friendly staff and they'll gladly tell you the history. As the restaurant motto goes, "If you're hungry, but don't know what you're hungry for, come to Izzy's."
Delicious breakfast
by doll83
Have an appetizing breakfast at this traditional deli. The breakfast menu is very extensive and offers a large choice of diverse omelets and egg dishes, pancakes, sandwiches, cakes and mouth melting pastries. The service is very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend the hot oatmeal. It comes steaming, with raisins and brown sugar and milk. Delicious and healthy!
- Pros: Food, service
over-priced lame-ness
by lady27
A grilled cheese priced at $8 with no fries?!?!?! Who do you think you are? This isn't Montana Ave!
If you wanna charge $8 for bread and cheese, fine, go ahead. If you wanna offer it with coleslaw (which we all knows costs barely $0.50 a person), go ahead. At least offer us that measly side..or one of the others offered. Don't just assume we are ok with a slice of bread, cheese, and another slice of bread for $8. If I'm paying you to make it, at least earn the $7.50 it costs to make buy serving your customer.
This is coming from someone in the food service industry, shame on you.
