Super tasty French restaurant on Broadway in Santa Monica. The owner always walks around in the evenings making sure everyone is happy and enjoying the food. The staff is nice and the food is great!

Le Petit Cafe is an excellent French neighborhood bistro, the chef/ ower and the waitresses are all French. We've loved everything we've tried the trout, steak, salads, chocolate mousse, wines, crab cakes, wonderful duck which despite the mediocre review the duck was sensational. This is a restaurant of great integrity nothing is frozen, everything is fresh and the staff all take great pride to be working there! They do use salt, seasonings and herbs they just don't over season/ over-salt. One reviewer who didn't know anything about food good thought the mashed potatotes which we've had there on several occasions were frozen, that's hardly the case, they're made fresh to order in the French manner! Everything about Le Petit Cafe is perfect and wonderful, a wonderful addition to SM.

My first impression of Le Petit Cafe was good - nice ambiance and very friendly service... Unfortunately our food was totally uninspired (I got the duck entree, which had very little flavor, and I love duck too). The sides - some vegetables and mashed potatoes were completely unsalted and un-spiced in any way... like they just threw the carrots in boiling water and that was it. I really wanted to like this place, but I don't think I'll be going back.
Pros: friendly
Cons: bland food

The last time that I went to Le Petit was on a Sat night , it was about 8pm and I forgot to make reservations, the room was half empty so I thought that we would be fine. The hostess did accomidate the two of us, the worst seat in the place, our punishment I suppose for not calling ahead. I was bracing myself for a bad experience from this point on. However to my delight our dining experience was great from that point forward. The Beef bourgonionne (Sp?) was superb as was the steak au poive, it was as near to perfect as any I had ever tasted. So what if the waitress mixed up the side orders, or that she frowned when we declined dessert . I still would still recommend it.
Pros: well priced, not crowded, cozy

Try cafeteria food instead. The mashed potatoes are straight from the frozen section. The concept of salt does not exist in this venue. Nice waiters though. I wonder what they think of the food.

This is a find. When all the nonsense about abdoning everything French was all the craze, this place exploded with loyal, then new patrons. We go there at least once a week, never disappointed. Try the musroom salad appetizer, and you can't miss with the sand dabs. The menu's amazingly large but nothing disappoints. Especially the price.
Pros: The food, Gracious owner/hosts

If you've ever been to Provence, then you'll appreciate this place. Very cute and cozy French restaurant. Entree specials vary each day. The grilled ginger seabass was delicious, as well as the salade nicoise and the creme brulee. Being a French restaurant, don't expect a bargain though. For a two-person meal, with one appetizer, one dessert, and drinks, we paid $68, which was actually well worth it.
Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Not too crowded
