Stiff drinks, good burger, service pretty spotty

If you get the chance to sit at the bar - do it. Service from the barkeeps is always better than the group that works the floor.
Just what the doc ordered!!

This place has what everyone is looking for in a bar depending on the day and time. I've been going there for years originally for the burgers but soon found there is much more to the kitchen than one would think. Not just your regular bar food and well priced. A great place to chill out during the day and people watch. At nights the place can be a good party. The guys behind the bar on the weekends are fun, fair and will take good care of you though sometimes that crowd can be a bit young and annoying. And just because they are a N.Y Yankee bar doesn't mean this saloon isn't geared towards everyone (although I'm sure there are some bitter New England fans out there who might disagree). I'll always pop in if I'm in the neighborhood. Good times!
- Pros: Great prices, drinks, food and service!
- Cons: It'll sometimes get a bit crowded with weekend warriors.
Local Hangout

Great casual bar spot; nothing like the hip, trendy Library Alehouse next door where they won't even let you sit at a table unless you order a full meal! Staff is great and friendly, beers and drinks great, and burger nights rock. You can usually find a seat inside, except on burger nights; a bit crowded then. Very friendly crowd, nobody bothers you, no pick up scene. Just good food and good booze in a comfortable atmosphere. Try it; you'll come back often.
- Pros: Very casual and comfortable place.
- Cons: Only Laker games on TV.
Down-home saloon hidden among Santa Monica's Main Street glitz.

The Scene
This unpretentious, neighborhood watering hole's decor may have inspired T.G.I.Friday's, with Hollywood photos, model ships and stuffed wildlife hanging on the walls. Locals gather to swill beers and munch on savory bar fare at the beautifully carved, wood, saloon-style bar and surrounding tables. The sidewalk patio out front is perfect for watching the local yuppies, club kids, and other characters float by. The back patio resembles a fraternity porch, appointed with no more than plastic furniture.
The Draw
Transplants from the Midwest and East Coast flock here, homesick for a bar where ordering a cosmopolitan is unheard of. Friendly locals keep mostly to themselves, play cut-throat games of Golden Tee, and gulp down simple drinks like bottled beer and Jack and Coke. The dressed-down, chipper staff is attentive and affable, and there is no scent of a meat market anywhere.
Can I get a Drink Please!!!

Very bad service, especially since there are so many other great places in the area. I say don't waste you time, effort, of money!
- Pros: good selection
- Cons: small, crowded, horrible service
Fun at Rick's
by taradelis_citysearch at Citysearch
AKA Rick's, the Tavern on Main is a comfortable neighborhood bar that attracts its fair share of local regulars, students, professionals, blue collar workers, girls who want to get a pre-Circle Bar buzz and guys who haven't made it into Circle Bar and are tired of waiting.
The cocktails are strong, even if they're better known for their beer. Smoking is allowed on the back patio (no heatlamsp, so it can get cold in winter) and on the front patio, which overlooks Main Street. A couple days a week offer happy hour burger specials.
The owner Rick can often be seen hanging out, and sometimes he brings his large dog into the bar as well. Try not to knock over his water bowl.
- Pros: staff are very nice, fun group of people
- Cons: parking problematic
