Simple, no-fuss Japanese ramen restaurant lures its loyal fan base with oodles of steaming noodles.

In Short
Walking down East 2nd in the heart of Little Tokyo, the smell of curry emanates from this unsuspecting hole-in-the-wall. Once inside, the casual setting, brick walls and traditional Sumo pictures put patrons at ease, transporting them to a friendly curry house that could easily be in the middle of Osaka. Dedicated ramen enthusiasts and local Japanese residents come to enjoy the signature dish, ranging from the most popular curry ramen to the traditional cashew pork ramen and less traditional fried chicken ramen. Other fare includes pork gyoza dumplings, curry rice and chicken teriyaki.
Hits: The ramen portions are very large, and the setting is cozy and comfortable.
Misses: Parking is difficult, and there is often only a single waitress for the lunch rush.
Nice and Cheap, but they don't skimp...

I have been going to Mr. Ramen for a good long while now. The menu has no frills, but they deliver excellent quality. Large servings are enough for fill you up for dinner and breakfast the next day. The service is alright and the reggae music gives this little hole in the wall a very warm and friendly atmosphere. So if you're short on cash, but if you want a meal that'll fill you up without making you feel like you're gonna have a coronary right afterwards, head over to Mr. Ramen! PS: If you're a tofu lover whose looking for a little more spice, ask for the Mabo Ramen extra spicy. That'll warm you up on a cold night.
- Pros: Great food for cheap
- Cons: no parking
Amazing, huge bowls of ramen!
by heyitsdi4n4
Mr. Ramen is perfect for vegetarians who crave great ramen--they make just about any bowl vegetarian. They also have tasty curries and other dishes. The bowls can be a little expensive (about $8 or so) but overall the service is great and the food even better. There's a really sweet waitress there with crazy hair and she's always nice about making things vegetarian. A great noodle bar!
- Pros: Veggie friendly ramen, good service, great food
great ramen in little tokyo
by juju13es
I couldn't see why people would eat ramen out, because you can pretty much make it at home, but this place has proven me otherwise. It's ramen is truly one-of-a-kind, and its so flavorful. I like to order the miso ramen and switch up the toppings every time I go. It's definitely worth the trip to Downtown!
Decent ramen, no-frills decor
by jflux
Mr. Ramen, along sushi and ramen row on 1st Street in Little Tokyo, is a bit of an ugly duckling -- the decor is pretty utilitarian -- just florescent lights, tables and a table with Japanese newspapers and comic books to read. And most times when I go, I'm usually one of two or three patrons in the place, making for a somewhat lonely atmosphere. But I keep going back because it delivers where it counts: they make decent ramen at very good prices. The noodles are chewy and tasty, the soup (especially the pork bone soup, which is rich and delicious) is flavorful. You can add on any number of toppings for an extra fee, like spinach, egg, another slice of roast pork or crispy tempura bits to customize your experience. The service is fast and friendly. The only thing that's missing is the energy, the hustle and bustle of a neighborhood ramen joint that you see at places like Asahi Ramen on Sawtelle. But then again, you're never rushed to finish eating because people are glowering at you while they wait for a table. Parking can be a pain -- I hate to pay more than a buck or two to park to eat cheap food -- but then, this is L.A....
- Pros: Tasty ramen, good prices, friendly service
- Cons: Slightly dowdy decor, no free parking, no 'crowd' energy that comes from a busier joint
Yummy Ramen For Late Night
by huskyduck
If you are hungry and around Little Tokyo late at night, go to Mr. Ramen for a large, steaming bowl of delicious ramen. Their are many choices for toppings and side dishes. Portions are large and you will want to slurp the yummy broth so one bowl should be enough for even the largest of appetites.
- Pros: ramen, many toppings, cheap
