my favorite restaurant...
by lily1908
I drive from the valley just to go to this place and I hate driving in the downtown area. They have a magical tofu bowl, which I get all the time, and my husband loves the tuna tuna bowl. The place is so reasonably priced and the food is amazing. I've got all my girlfriends hooked on this place. Sometimes we pile in the SUV and head over there for a fun night full of great food and delicious sake.
P.S.- get the seaweed salad too.
- Pros: Everything.
- Cons: I wish there was one in the valley.
Japanese food with a twist
by lcacds
I love this place and go every week! Among me and my co-worker's favorites are Chicken Nanban, Spicy chicken bowl, tuna tuna bowl, and the new pepper steak bowl. The tempura is mighty tasty too. We especially love the little salad that comes with the meal, it's super refreshing! We also have had a few celebrity sitings there! The service is a little slower than I like it to be, but oh, the food is worth it!
- Pros: Great interesting good
- Cons: service a bit on the slow side
TOT for a Taste of Tokyo
by debaoki
When you're sick of being snubbed by the "sushi nazi" and sky-high tabs for so-so Japanese food, TOT is the place to go. Tucked away in downtown L.A., TOT is popular for its inexpensive daily specials (which are first-comed, first served -- very often they run out of them before lunch hour is over). The menu features Japanese food as everyday Tokyo-ites enjoy it: simple flavors and fresh ingredients. The rice bowl combos are popular and the bento boxes offer a good taste of a little bit of everything for a very nice price. I love the deeply flavorful broth of their udon noodles -- it makes the udon you get at almost any other place in town taste like instant ramen. Fast, unfussy service.
- Pros: inexpensive, tasty food, casual
- Cons: can be crowded, not for sushi snobs
mediocre food
by taraisaacson
A few reviews in guidebooks described TOT as a place with japanese favorites with a modern twist. There was no twist.
Dry grilled chicken, watery miso soup, annoying music, all below average. Not recommended.
Great lunch
by thenewbombs
Best food in Little Tokyo! They have an amazing spicy tofu bowl and tuna bowl that is huge and comes with miso and salad for a very affordable price. Excellent tofu! Large menu and nice decor. A staple of downtown lunch.
- Pros: Excellent tofu, Inexpensive, Good-size portion
