Favorite restaurant in LA but brace yourself
by Girlafraid
It really is great food and a fun atmosphere but you have to get there early! It's a very unique experience: you have to eat quick or you will feel like they are rushing you, going in a party of more than two-three guarantees a REALLY long wait or you wont be seated together. BUT still, the food is worth it. The owner is interesting, he will not argue with you if you don't hear your name- he will just rush you out! I go there pretty often and he recognizes me but I still get the same service. This place isn't about customer service so really keep that in mind. 5 STARS.
- Pros: Tasty food, cool atmosphere
- Cons: Long wait
Old Man is really rude
by lupitab29
me and my co-worker signed in our names at 6:00, we have been waiting for 30 mins inside, the man never called our names. when we finally went to check that status, he stated he already called our names 20 mins ago. Now mind you he was raising his voice in front of the customers. as i went back to wait yet again, he escorted us out of the restaurant advising it was too full inside. We were sitting down in the waiting bench inside. So basicly he kicked us out!!! he must of been having a bad day to set him off, but he should not treat his customers so demeaning. I was a regular customer visiting almost 4xs a month. I WILL NEVER RETURN!!!
- Pros: meat is fresh
- Cons: the old man who calls out names is REALLY RUDE!!

Better Recommendation
by KINGGG
The service. The cleanliness. The food. Especially the food. I personally think that Shabu ShabuYo is a whole lot better than Shabu SHabu house. The serivce is fast, breezy, and friendly. This place is wayy cleaner than ShabuShabu house and there's lovely background music and airconditioning. The prices are around the same and the meat used at Shabu Shabu yo is very good quality. It's Black ANgus Ribeye. They also have pork, various salads, salmon ShabuShabu, and even a vegetarian Shabu Shabu. There really is no wait and instead of being seated around a dirty table, filled with a lot of people, there are actually SEATS and TABLES. However, becasue of it's location [Next to Pinkberry, Ebisu, and 2ndStreet Jazz] it's commonly ignored. But those people don't know what they're missing out on. The overall restauraunt is very comfortable and leaves you with a full stomach, a happy mind, and a satisfied smile.
- Pros: Seats, Tables, AC, greatservice, quality beef, no waits
- Cons: It's in a pretty obscure location.
I WAITED 1.5 HOURS TO COOK MY OWN MEAL
by mustcop
SO I ALWAYS WALK BY THIS PLACE AND ITS ALWAYS BUSY SO I CHCKED IT OUT LAST WEEKENED. WAITED IN LINE FOR ABOUT 1.5 HOURS THEN WE WERE IN. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL YOU CAN ONLY ORDER ONE OF TWO ITEMS: 10 PIECES OF MEAT OR 15 PIECES OF MEAT. I WENT WITH THE BIGGER. THE FOOD IS GREAT AND SERVICE IS GOOD. IT WAS HOT IN THERE WHICH MADE ME FEEL A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE. THEY DONT HAVE AIR CONDITION. OTHER THAN THAT THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD. ID EAT THERE AGAIN FOR SURE A++
- Pros: THE BEAT IS GREAT
- Cons: NO AIR CONDITION, LONG WAITS
Yummy for your tummy

I have been coming here since I was a kid in the 90's. This is the best shabu shabu that there is. I have tried the one on citywalk ( just one of the choices on a japanese menu), hollywood and highland and the one in sherman oaks and I must tell you it is the ponzu sauce that keeps me coming back. (They now have bottles which they sell for $5.50 each) Normally order a large and have never had to wait more than an hour cause I am familiar with how the flow of traffic is there during the week vs weekends. My only complaint is that many of the customers expect something totally different and would know better if they read up on shabu shabu (as well as proper etiquette when eating it). So my complaint is really about the clientele, not the restaurant. The service tends to be better in the evening, but since my family and I are regulars we always manage to get great service. I live in the Chatsworth area and still manage to make time to get there at least twice a month, more if my schedule accomadates.
- Pros: It is the best shabu shabu in the greater los angeles area
- Cons: the wait
not as good as you think
by insynwyn
This place isn't that great. Nothing special, don't know why people wait for this place. After eating this place, it made Ka Ga Ya super heavenly to go to.
- Pros: asian people
- Cons: food wasn't that good
Hands down the BEST Shabu Shabu in the Los Angeles Metro!
by JayNgo
I've been going to this restaurant for nearly a decade and it remains as my favorite place for Shabu Shabu. I've been to countless Japanese restaurants serving Shabu Shabu around LA, Orange and San Bernardino counties and nothing comes even close.
The secret is the choice beef and their legendary ponzu, which the owner cooks himself every evening. The ponzu recipe is so guarded that he doesn't even let his long time employees inside the kitchen while he makes it.
After years of frequenting this place, you become friends with the owner, staff and some of your co-addicts.
But one thing remains---they are strict with their "First Come- First Serve" rule. So come early, fill out the wait list, and do not wander around---for once your name is called and you're not there, you've lost your place in line.
But believe me, the wait is worth it.
- Pros: Best Shabu Shabu in town!
- Cons: 30 to an hour's wait time--but oh-so worth it.
Terrible service!
by mos68
They serve a small portion of vegetables compared to other places and a medium size order will not be enough for a man or a woman with a big appetite.
The joint is too too small for such an overly populated place...minimum waiting time during lunch is 45 min.
so the waiters are pushing to get you to finish as soon as possible and leave. They took my dish away when I was still eating and threw the check on the table, gave me a nasty attitude like 'I can't believe you're still eating!'
There isn't anything nice about this place, this place even smells bad.
I'm not going back, for sure.
