The Best Greek Food in California by Rebecca V. at InsiderPages

I simply love Greek cuisine. I have eaten it from both coasts and many places in between. George's is my favorite! I order what I fondly call the appetizer dinner. I get a few different appetizers including the fried feta cheese, and the feta cheese with spinach. I get a side order of their lamb chops in which the meat melts from the bone! They have a delicious white wine I fondly call naked lady white because there are naked ladies dancing on the label. I get a small Greek Salad and there is enough food to feed 2 to 3 people! I end my dinner with sweet Greek coffee and some of George's wife's delicious hand made desserts! The cookies are simply scrumptious. If George is slow and you ask him, he will read your coffee grounds! He is very accurate and sweet! Tell him you were referred by Rebecca!

My friend and I discovered this place when we left a Spin certification class across the street at Gold's Gym and were absolutely ravenous! We were planning on simply grabbing something to eat for the ride home, but after being taken under the wing of the owner right there on the sidewalk and treated like a member of his family, we made the decision to sit and enjoy the atmosphere for a bit longer. And even sweat-drenched and in our gym clothes, they welcomed us whole-heartedly. The rest of the staff, from the waitress to the cook to the busboy, were all as warm and friendly as George. And the food was delicious! If we're ever back in Long Beach, I will re-arrange my schedule and drive out of my way to eat here again! I hope the people who live so close to George's know how lucky they are!

Took my sister to George's yesterday (I've been there many times), but it was her first experience. She like the food and the friendly staff. From my perspective, the new location on Pine is so much better - more room, nice and relaxing patio, and more servers to handle the crowds.
Great food!

Great food, great service. I've been there several times and never disappointed. They're open a bit later than many places too (in traditional Greek fashion!) so that's a plus :)
Great move on Pine!

I always visit this greek restaurant, but it got better, they move accross the street from Cafe Sevilla (a pearl) on Pine. Same folks, great food as usual, pine is now the ethnic destination for downtown Long Beach. large outdoor patio give the place a very unique feel.

My friends and I visited here before a trip to Greece and the waiter wrote down trip suggestions for us! Try: souflaki, vegetarian plate, hummus, baba ghanouj.

The food at George's is the best Greek food around. It's as close as you can get to Grease, without the airfare. The Friday night special of slow cooked lamb and it is excellent as is their stuffed salmon. If you're lucky you'll get papa George to greet you at the door (cute little old man who greets everyone with a hug).
Great food, great service, great time!

All I can say is that you must try the Gyro's. They are to die for. Adequate service for finding a seat during a lunch rush, and they also offer alchohol. I've ate here a few times with co-workers, and have no complaints. Only peeve I have is their bathroom is a little dirty and can use some adjustments and clean up. Other than that, anyone will enjoy their experience here.
- Pros: Prompt seating, good service, delicious food
- Cons: Small/dirty bathroom.
love it!

george's is so good. the greek salad is just what you want when you want a greek salad. they have really good falafal(sorry about the spelling) sandwiches. all of the sandwiches come with rice, salad or fries(or, if you ask really nicely, they're give you a little salad and some fries. do that). they have a good deal on wine, i think on mondays. they also opened up another one on 2nd st. i like the one on 2nd better because sometimes there's this woman who works at the one on pine that makes you finish your food no matter what. it's like having a greek grandma watching over you.
When you're here, you're Family

From the tendency to get friendly greetings from the owner at the door, to the service by the efficient and friendly family members and other employees of this restaurant, to the delicious food and homey atmosphere, you feel well taken care of when you are at George's. I have been there many times at mid-day on a Saturday for lunch, and also at night on Saturdays, when a delightful serving of music (and belly-dancing if you're there at the right time) is served up. If you're in town, don't miss this place, but don't bring too many friends. I still want to have room for my wife and I. Enjoy!
