Smells delecious, average food
by senbonzakurakageyoshi
The chicken and ribs were just about average. But when you get your food, you just get really happy because the smell was heavenly. Then once you bite into your food, a little part of you just dies because it smelled so much better than it tastes. The chicken and ribs were both a little on the dry side, but not so much so that it gave you difficulty chewing and swallowing.
On a more positive note, the restaurant is a little hidden, and is quieter than most restaurants. You can whisper across the table and the person on the other side can hear you just fine. Our server was pretty nice as well, she recommended a pretty average piece of cake. The decor was pretty nice, its a cozy, tidy restaurant, with nice servers and its an alright date spot, if your significant other is into their meats. The prices wasn't unreasonable, since their proportions were pretty big. Also, their BBQ sauce is pretty good with fries too.
When you do go there, don't be afraid to park in the fee lot. If you tell them you're going to Hutch Restaurant, they don't charge you. Oh and if you like to be outside, you can ask to be seated in their porch, since there isn't heavy traffic, its not too bad to be outside on a cool night.
- Pros: Parking, service, decor
- Cons: Food a little dry
Unique flavored BBQ, don't expect KC Masterpiece!
by lorilynn55
I've been going there since the 1950's. My parents remember it as the Twizzle Twig Tea Room. As Hutch's, they have always been known for their BBQ meats and sandwiches. The used to have the best french fries until several owners ago. They are still ok, but were better. The cole slaw is the best in the world. The BBQ sauce is different from any I've ever had and there is no comparison so don't even try. Love it or hate it. I love it. It hasn't changed through the years and their BBQ beef sandwiches are still the best anywhere around and I always as for extra sauce. The meat is quite tender and the buns soft. This place used to be packed on weekends, but when the new owners closed down the patio and made a large open room of it, it lost alot of the charm. We used to love to sit outside, it was lovely. The interior has changed little, the staff not as attentive as the ladies back in the 60's, but for todays standards, the are still good and the food can't be beat. Go in with a clear mind and go in hungry!
- Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, good service
- Cons: Parking can be a challenge at times, but not impossible.
great dining and under new management...
by butorfli
The food was excellent... the BBQ beef sandwich and potato salad was a perfect choice for my boyfriend and I'm hooked on the garlic roasted potatoes. The Jerk chicken linguini was delicious! The atmosphere has changed some since I had last been there but all for the better. We were greeted by the new manager and she was very friendly... she even sat down and talked with us for a bit!
- Pros: validated parking, large portions, warm atmosphere
- Cons: closes at 9 p.m.
Good 'ol homestyle bbq!
by kiblers_mb
Great service and very relaxed, island feel ambience. The people are so nice. I had the BBQ pork sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich was excellent! Homestyle and tender! The potato salad was among the best I've had. Definitely a great place to eat!
the little house of bbq that could!
by vballchick
hard to believe i didn't know about this place before. had lunch there just this past weekend - tried the bbq pork sandwich and the potato salad... it was GREAT!! the potato salad was awesome... not heavy on the mayo like most places. the sandwich meat was tender and tasty. tried the roasted garlic potatoes as well - YUM!!! i almost finished the whole order by myself!! the chef and the servers were extremely friendly and accommodating as well.
most definitely should check out this little house of bbq!
- Pros: lots of parking, great service, great food!
Good place to get BBQ
by flungster
My experience with Hutch's BBQ was a pretty good one - they offer a variety of BBQ meals which should satisfy anyone's appetite. The Jamaican Jerk chicken was quite good but the ribs won me over. Finally - something as simple as egg salad was just great at Hutch's. It's a quaint building right in between a courthouse and a huge modern hotel but the food definitely stands out. The prices are a little high for regular dinner but you can get a great deal on weekends when they serve an all you can eat buffet.
Check it out!
a little treasure in old town
by fullofflav2
a small house converted to a bbq churnin' eatery. good stuff. the oxtail was quite good as well as the baby back ribs - the meat came right off the bone. the best part was the egg salad and the roasted garlic potatoes - YUM! jerk chicken was pretty good - tender and not overly sauced. plus the chef/owner was a hella cool jamaican mon!
- Pros: lots of parking, friendly staff
Great food and great people
by sid72
We initially were skeptical, but thought we would look at the menu. It turned out to be great food with genuinely friendly service. The BBQ chicken sandwich was fantastic, and the Jamaican food was spicy and tasty. Though the beer selection was small, they assured us they were adding to it. They also validated for parking (which is sparse in the area). All in all, really great food for a reasonable price. Definitely worth a try.
- Pros: Great Food, Great Attitude, Free Parking
- Cons: Small Beer Selection
Jamaican, not BBQ
by chowbaby1234
It would be a great idea if the ownership would change the name to Hutch's Jamaican Food. Most of the menu is Jamaican with just a few bbq items.
We thought we were going to a bbq place and ended up being disappointed
- Cons: pay for parking, not bbq
