Great massage
by optionsyra
I drove from the bay area last month to visit my best friend in LA. So great to see her after 3 years. We had a delicious dinner together and to my surprise, she treated me a Shiatsu massage at this place called Shiatsu of California in old town Pasadena after. This is not my first time to have a Shiatsu massage. But this one is the one of the best!! I was brought into a private massage room. I had a male therapist who is totally professional. His pressure is perfect, not to harsh, not too soft, just right! The massage lasts for one hour, and I was pampered from head to toe. After massage, I used the jacuzzi all by self as it was late around 9:30. I was the last customer there. I have to say, I was totally revived and re-energized from the exhaust of driving. I love the place!!
- Pros: Great massage, great atmosphere
- Cons: not impressed with the massage outfit
Excellent and original shiatsu massage

I am a loyal customer at Shiatsu of California. Entire tone of spa is peaceful, artistic and professional. The most fascinating is the skill of massage therapists. Comparing to other high-end spas with luxuary facilities, Shiatsu has the best therapist I have experienced so far. If you would like to experience the real and GOOD Shiatsu, I highly recommend this place. I get a free massage every ten visits. And the price is very reasonable. I get 60 minutes Shiatsu for $75. It's pretty good considering the quality of massage. Make sure to book your appointment early, especially on weekend. It's best to visit during Tue to Thur as they are not really busy.
- Pros: Original excellent Shiatsu massage
- Cons: May not get a private room and appointment sometime begins 5-10 minutes late
A peaceful, stylish Pasadena retreat that offers intense massage therapy.

The Scene
Located on a quiet street just two blocks north of Old Town Pasadena, this refuge encourages relaxation. Patrons enter a waiting area that features leather chairs and couches, and then walk through a hallway with a graceful, curved wall to the locker room. The design mixes botanical themes with chic minimalism: lots of dark and light contrasts with wood, frosted glass, white fabrics and chrome.
The Services
Massage here is not for the faint of heart. Practitioners will apply lighter pressure upon request, but their default setting involves targeting pressure points with much poking of muscles and cracking of bones--it's apparently hard work loosening up stuck chi (body energy). Improved sense of overall well-being is shiatsu's goal; the goal of patrons, however, may include locating a tube of Ben Gay 48 hours later. Treatment choices are simple: shiatsu, shiatsu and Swedish combination, chair massage or foot massage.
The Details
Whirlpool, dry sauna. Massage.
Not for just one visit

Shiatsu, as in most massage is great if you need to do some healing. It takes time to work out the very stressed out parts of our body. So plan to go more than once. Keep the same person, and let them know what you would like to work on.
This like most spa's is not entirely private, however unlike most, you don't ever have to be naked in front of anyone if you choose not to be. You aren't naked when you are getting your massage, they give you shorts & a t-shirt. where you get the massage is not private either.
