WHERE IS JAYA???
by TalinK at Citysearch
I have dry, curly, very thick hair. Jaya used to be my hair dresser, I went by her for hair cuts, she was the best at thining hair. Absolutely Superb! I keep calling Renaissance and they won't tell me where she is, I've tried over and over and by their policy they are suppose to tell us were they have relocated. So if anyone knows where she is or Jaya if you see this message PLEASE respond. I will greatly appreciate it! If I sound desperate, I AM! =)
- Pros: SHE WAS THE BEST!

I first started going to the place in 2003 and had a fabulous stylist. However, she left not long after and I was shoved to another "stylist" and this person just had no clue what to do with my hair and several visits later, my hair is left with really BAD layers. This use to be a really good place to go, but since the revolving door of stylists that seem fresh out of "beauty school", it became a little discouraging. I even tried going to Bokaos (same owner), with no luck. Tried 3 stylists, got 3 bad cuts. At least there's consistency between stores, even if it is bad. I haven't been back in 2 years and tell everyone I can to avoid both facilites.
- Pros: Aveda Products
- Cons: The "Stylists"
Poor skills, poor service, high prices
by malecustomer at Citysearch
This salon is ridiculously overpriced. I hated my haircut received at Wilson location, so this time I checked out the one in Americana. After my second poor experience with Renaissance salon, now I am convined that this salon is simply a bad salon, period! They charge like a high-end salon, but the stylists are not capable of delivering the skills and service of a high-end salon. Just ridiculous!
Mediocre Salon
by Consumerreport at Citysearch
The competency of hairstylists is average, but the service is just terrible. They made a scheduling mistake on both my appointments and made me wait forever... Kelly didn't even bother herself to apologize. They made me come in separately for a consultation (as if Kelly was going to perform surgery on me), and for the actual perm. What's ridiculos is that after all that "preparation", I got a perm that was not any better than my $80.00 perm that I normally get in a more modest salon. In fact, my hair felt much more dry this time and the curls were smaller than I wanted. This salon is totally overpriced and Kelly's attitude and service is awful, just awful. I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone.

My regular hairdresser was out of country, so I decided to get a haircut at Renaissance studio this time. I had heard some negative remarks regarding Renaissance studio from my co-workers, but based on their relatively high prices, I was still hoping to get decent haircut and quality service. Mistake! The stylist (Erika) was nice and she tried her best, but she totally messed up my hair. I am now stuck with poor and hideous haircut for a while? MY REAL COMPLAIN, HOWEVER, IS ABOUT KELLY. I had also made an appointment for my sister to get a perm consultation from Kelly. The perm was supposed to be my gift to my sister for her B-day. My sister arrived at 8:00 as scheduled and asked the receptionist to let Kelly know of her arrival. Kelly told loudly that she is working on somebody, so my sister should wait. She didn't even look at my sister's direction to see who her potential client was, especially when she was making her wait. After waiting about 1/2 hour, my sister wanted to know how much longer she was expected to wait. Again, Kelly told the receptionist that she will be done when she will be done and that whoever it is should wait. Another 15 minutes passed, and my sister left without saying another word. She wouldn?t tolerate disrespect and such poor mannerism from any hairdresser. I never thought our experience with Renaissance studio would be this disappointing. I will never ever go back!!!
You won't be sorry

Just got my hair done on Friday evening by Alfred, and as always I'm extremely pleased. He is so patient and thoughtful, he knows I have a sensitive scalp and constantly asked if he was pulling on my hair too hard or if the curling iron was too hot. I had a couple of functions to attend this weekend and got many compliments about my new hair color and cut.
Alfred has always been a master at highlights, his work is exceptional and always first quality!
- Pros: Location, expertise, friendly staff
- Cons: Parking
Terrible service

I felt like crying the whole time I was there. I showed up to the salon at the Americana on Brand and waited to be noticed. I finally had to say, "Excuse me" to the receptionist who was obviously avoiding eye contact. I told her I was here for a 2pm appointment. She didn't know what to do with me because there was no place to wait or sit without being in the way.
I had an appointment with Haz. I waited for 30 minutes before Haz's assistant took me to wash my hair. After the shampoo I sat in a chair with drippy wet hair for another 15 minutes. Hmmm. Should I leave? They obviously don't care that I'm here. I wish I would have left. The color was $270 dollars and I was there forever. I was treated terrible and the color was not what I asked for at all!!! Haz never even spoke to me about the color. She sent another "assistant" over and asked me to pick a color out of a magazine. I thought that it was a little weird that the stylist didn't even talk to me before picking the hair color. I couldn't believe it. The assistants bleached my head 3 TIMES. They were sweet girls but had little experience. I didn't feel comfortable at all and the toner actually burned my head and I couldn't brush my hair for a week. Again this cost, $270 dollars. The assistants fried my hair so bad that Haz had to cut all the dead bits off. Now I look like a boy with brown, rodent like hair...Thanks. I should have left after the shampooing.
I would never go back to this salon. I never take the time to write reviews but I'm just telling you if you have a choice, avoid this place like the plague.
Everyone could tell I wasn't happy when I left and they offered to correct the color for me if I didn't like it in 6 weeks. I kept thinking, why would I go back to you if you couldn't do it right the first time?
- Pros: good make up products
- Cons: Expensive, Insensitive stylist, rude, burned scalp
Poor Quality all Around

I just returned from Bakaos Salon in the new Americana Mall. I was very disappointed with the price and the way my hair looked when I left. The girl who did my hair explained that I would get a partial weave so I could save money and not get a full color. What she didn't tell me was that she would be charging me for a "toner" which she said was only used to correct color after the fact. Maria, the cleaning woman was using a disgusting industrial bucket to mop the floor while customers were there. She was rinsing the bucket in the same sink that the colorists were using!! The place was not very clean or organized. The receptionist tried to show off some cleavage but the effect was very disturbing because her breasts were very unattractive! Someone needs to tell her to stop trying so hard, cuz it ain't working. My hair looked flat and greasy when I left there. After spending $170, no tip or parking included? My money is too precious to waste for poor quality.
- Pros: Aveda Products
- Cons: Pricey and Wannabe Quality
Relax!
by GLee1980 at Citysearch
I found out about this salon from the aveda store in the galleria. I usually try to get in with Trisha or Monica, it works out pretty well between the both of them and i always looove my hair when i am done! the last time i was there i got my brows done with lonnie who was sooo great! i went back for a facial. the salon is always really friendly and all the stylist seem up on fashion and all the trends, but if you like to keep it old school they can do that too. i've never been unhappy with my hair or services and i don't think that i have ever seen any one who was... try it out! you will be happy
- Pros: a stressfree relaxing visit with great results
- Cons: sometimes you get put on hold for a little too long on the phone
Perfect Color! Ask for Veronica or Alfred
by ellielove at Citysearch
I am in love with Renaissance!
I went to Veronica to get my color corrected when another salon messed it up, and she was PERFECT! I am very self conscious about getting my hair colored, and having it look classy. Plus, they use Aveda hair colors which are really natural. Veronica was really nice and understood EXACTLY what i wanted! When I look at the other clients getting their hair colored by other stylists there it always looks good too. Sometimes its hard to get last minute appointments, so book in advance. <3
- Pros: Ambience, close parking, caring ppl
- Cons: sometimes stylists are not available last minute
