My first and hopefully LAST emergency room visit in the USA
by skipking
I was sent here due to having excessively (as they said, "stroke-level") high blood pressure and no insurance. I arrived at 12noon. 10 minutes later their own people measured my BP. Great. But it took 13.5 HOURS to see the doctor. I told the doctor that I already had used the medication he was planning to give me and that it didn't work, but he ignored me. I left at 5am. I'm supposed to go back in 2 weeks. Joy. Maybe I'll skip it. I'd rather be DEAD than return here.
NOTE: I visited friends in Rome Italy last March, to use up the rest of my frequent flyer miles. (I'm nearly destitute, so I wanted to travel one last time, before being homeless.) While in Rome I had a major accident on the street, requiring an ambulance trip to the hospital, MRI, xrays, stitches and px. The ambulance arrived 5 minutes after initial call. I was in and out of the hospital, on my way to the pharmacy, within 1.5 hours. Total cost? 10 euros for the px. THAT'S IT! MORAL: America's health insurance companies MUST be driven out of business.
- Pros: doctor and nurse, especially the nurse, were nice
- Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE!

BE PREPARED TO WAIT between 8 - 20 HOURS!!
WORST Emergency Room experience EVER. I don't need to go into details but my girlfriend was in SERIOUS need to see a doctor. After waiting in horrible pain for over 10 freakin' HOURS her name was finally called to see a doctor who basically did nothing but send her home with pain meds. No MRI, no bloo d work, No x-ray, Nothing!
Over crowded ER? YES! with a bunch of people with no health insurance that had the flu and colds and sprained ankles, cloging up the EMERGENCY ROOM so that someone who was in need couldn't receive the care that I hope someday god forbid if you need you receive.
I really DON'T want to blame the doctors. Yes, they are overwhelmed and have to deal with "all kinds" But the SYSTEM sux!
If you don't have insurance...you're seriously screwed.
- Pros: I got nothin.... some nurses seemed to care.
- Cons: lotsa crazy dope seekers screwin it up for SERIOUS patients!

What I have seen here is only good people and a great enviroment among them, Doctors really get involved with their patients and get to know them very well, I am surprised they are saying that, probably yeah, you need to wait while some other people is coming, but remember, that is why a Triage exists, Doctors will see first to the people with worst illness and after that people who is more stable.
I think that is how everybody would like to be, I would not like to have an accident and then people in the OV telling me, you know what, you need to wait because is not your turn yet, even tho the person who is before me is only a cough or a simple cold, we really need to appreciate that service, the triage.
And lets be real, we all are humans, so, expect human defects inside every hospital and facilitie.
That is my review, OV is way better than man other hospitals around the world, I travel a lot, and I do have insurance, but, this is a great place where I go everytime I am in the valley.
Have a great day.
- Pros: Great communication
- Cons: Volume of patients
Worst Hospital
by jkjijk
I would never recommend this hospital. I got very bad impression from here. Rude people, I found out that I know more about medicine than the nurses. Person can die waiting in emergency room. No help at all. My mom has an ulcer and she fainted four times in a day. In emergency room they gave her painkiller and said everything is fine with her. Overall, I would never recommend this hospital.
Worst Hospital In the Valley
by angel143
I am sorry to say this but this is the worst hospital ever, my mom has been going to that hospital since April of 2007 she has gallstones and the pain kept getting worse. Everytime she went to Olive view she waited in the emergency room for a whole day just to be told theres nothing that can be done, the nurses at the hospital were also very rude to her. My mother is 50 years old and she doesnt have medical insurance her medicaid is in process but its amazing how you have to be dying for Doctors to treat you. After 6 month of waiting I decided to take her to Holy Cross where service was amazing, in one day she got a MRI and ultrasound done and the next day she had her surgery. If she would have gone to Olive View she still would have been waiting for them to decide and operate. I will never recommend this hospital to anyone.
- Cons: Service
