Best sandwiches

by DrSamPsyD at Citysearch

I have been a customer of Matt and Tony's for 30 years. When I want a real submarine, I go to Matt & Tony's. The size of the parking lot, the number of tables, or how big the place is does not affect the quality of the sandwiches, which has been constant and great for all this time.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and experience, but I have only had positive experiences with Matt and Tony's. They are worth stopping by if you are hungry for a real submarine.

  • Pros: great tasting sandwiches
  • Cons: not closer to my home

Had awsome sandwiches back when they were in North Holloywood on Victory Blvd near old Victory Drive in

by Garyh0002 at Citysearch

I used to go to get the steak sandwich back in the 70's. I went to the catholic school across the street on Victory Blvd. near the Old Victory Drive in (now a shopping center), and at least back then, they were the bomb. They had the best steak sandwiches and were nicely priced. I don't remember bad service. I remember great sandwiches. I think maybe some of the previous posts are from one or 2 disgruntled customers and you know what they say, do something right and hardly anyone notices, but one bad customer service experience and everyone finds out! I just found these guys after that long (almost 40 years) on the internet after thinking back about what we used to eat in those days and thier name popped up in my head. I will go there and try it again, and see if the steak sandwich is as good as I rememeber. Then I will post my opinion. I will be honest too. Irregardless of how the service or parking is. I promise.

  • Pros: Had a great steak sandwich 40 years ago.
  • Cons: I don't have one yet. I'll go there, try it, and get back to you.

TERRIBLE SERVICE - Good Food - FAREWELL ATLAST

by bullryde at Citysearch

Matt and Tony's has been around for a long time and I have been going there along time, BUT NO MORE. They have just lost a customer. While the food is good, I am sick and tired of the absolutely down right RUDE service. Since when do you bark at customers?

For years, I have endured the terrible parking, the small accomodations, constantly busy, and RUDE RUDE RUDE service people who would rather watch the TV then to make a sandwhich for you. Not too mention that they are out of what you usually want half the time.

When I tried to talk to them about the service on the phone, I was abruptly hung up on.

GOOD BYE and GOOD RIDDENS. It is not worth the hassle, unless you like being treated like dirt

  • Pros: Good Food
  • Cons: Horrible Service

The Customer Experience was Poor

by mangorian at Citysearch

Difficult parking, poor service, poor seating, poor food. All around it was a poor experience.

Don't waste your time.

  • Pros: It's close to my work.
  • Cons: Food and service stunk.

Unimpressed

by henry91345 at Citysearch

I decided to check this place out base two good reviews, and I can't say I was thrilled. While I wasn't assaulted, the staff wasn't particularly nice, and certainly wasn't in any hurry. As previous posters have mentioned, the parking and seating are very limited.

On to the food. As another poster mentioned, the toppings are very limited. I likened it to the Soup Guy on Seinfeld.."you get what I give you!!!"...LOL ... The sandwich was nothing to write home about. They pile on a relish of tomatoes, onions and pickles, but it doesn't make for a great sandwich. By "old world style" one can only assume that the previous poster was referring to a time when flavor was an issue. It was plain and bland.

Personally, I have to believe that the two positive posts are the owner trying to save face. I think it's pretty apparent by the way they're written...and like I said, the food just isn't very good.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and pass this place up. There are plenty of good sandwich shops in the Valley, you can do much better.

  • Pros: I was full when I left
  • Cons: I wasn't happy while I was there. The food is poor and the service is bad.

Old world Style Subs!

by ejl6541ord at Citysearch

I first started coming here in the '80s. If you want the real deal then go to Matt and Tony's. It's not some mass produced sub like Subway or Quiznos. The sandwiches are made the traditional way. The place is small, not much parking, and its family owned. It has only the basic toppings that are crisp and fresh. So if you want a sub the way its suppose to be made then go to Matt and Tony's

  • Pros: The food is better than you would get at a deli
  • Cons: It can get crowded and loud at times, so make sure you speak up when ordering

Aweful, just aweful.

by daniel_r at Citysearch

The food was OK at best. The options are very limited. Tomatoes, pickles and onions are the only add-ons. No lettuce, peppers, olives, sauces, etc. The service was horrible (the staff was more worried about watching TV than the customers that were waiting to be served). After over 30 minutes of waiting, I asked how much longer it would be and the manager yelled at me and one of the cooks glared at me like he wanted to jump over the counter and attack me!!!! This when 2 of the 4 tables were available!!!! It's not like they were busy!

There's no parking, nowhere to sit, the service is rude. Why would you want that?

  • Pros: None, the food was bland and limited.
  • Cons: Staff is combative and rude.

Best Subs In The World...You Won't Be Disapointed

by idoexist at Citysearch

If you're ever in the San Fernando Valley and you're craving a delicious sandwich you must stop at Matt & Tony's. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Don't be fooled by the little whole in the wall image. I call it our hidden little treasure. I discovered Matt & I recommend their turkey sub with everything on it. Their pickle, tomato, and onion mixture is what makes the sandwich authentic. You can also order 4 foot subs for your next party with all the trimmings.
