President Mexican Restaurant has been in Mission Hills a long time, at least 15 years. It's great for work groups at lunchtime, as they get you in and out quickly. The food is good, and I especially like their fresh salsa. Parking in their lot can be tight at lunchtime, so arrive a few minutes early to assure a spot. They offer a few american-style dishes on their menu if anyone in your group doesn't want a mexican dish.
Best lunch place to start Happy Hour

This is one of the few restaurants with great mexican food AND margaritas that my coworkers and I can go to for lunch. They have one of the best Guacamole dip for a sit-down restaurant in Mission Hills. I'd recommend the Tostadita (?), taco salad in a tortilla shell...this is a HUGE lunch special. Also recommend the crunchy tacos, chile relleno, and the carne asada plate. It's not a fancy place but the food is a lot better than El Toritos or Alcapulcos. Service is usually great...ever so often we'll have a waiter who seems to forget to come back to us sooner than later (we are on a lunch break). I've also been to the other Presidente in Northridge...strong drinks but their food isn't as good as here.
Fabulous Salsa, Good Food

I grew up in the SFV valley and have gone to Presidente sporadically throughout the years. It's never the first place I think about because it's at the north end of Granada Hills right next to the 405 freeway.
Last week I went again and was happy I did. The salsa and chips were a fantastic start. I like salsa that has a little kick to it and this delivered. Three of us were in my party and we all ordered different things. The two that stood out were the zarapes and the carnitas burrito. Both were enough for two meals so two lucky people got to enjoy them as leftover the next day.
The quality and taste of the food was refreshingly good and it was nice to have a break from some of the bigger-and-boring chains. (True, Presidente is a chain, but not a huge one).
On the downside, decor is lacking...it's very peachy inside and it just reminded me of the long-outdated southwest decor. I can live with that as long as they keep serving up good food. I will be back.
- Pros: Zarapes, Carnitas Burrtio, Chips & Salsa
- Cons: Decor
