Classy, delicious, overall great experience
by scottyw
My first experience at Monty's was truley memerable. From the hostess ( beautiful young lady) to the service, which was outstanding, attentive, and professional to our food which was mouth watering ( that special filet was fabulous). I have already been back and will continue to aware freinds and family of my dining experience. I left wanting of nothing and very satisfied. I have dined at many fine restaurants and this is one of my favorites.
thank you
scottw.
- Pros: great location, perfect steak house decor
- Cons: none
Valet dirty tricks
by Connie41
I find it extremely distasteful that the valet attendents use the [street] parking spots in front of the restaraunt, forcing patrons to park further away, or pay the valet "service charge" of $5.00. This is not an acceptable practice.
Patrons should not be allowed to wear baseball caps while dining at a "so-called" fine dining restaraunt.
- Pros: Very good prime rib
- Cons: Noisy environment, dress code issues.
Ok Food- Atrocious Service
by kanester
I went here one evening with my husband really hoping to like it. The food was alright although the server literally disappeared and never came back when we were in need of the check. We waited about 40 minutes and were like, "Where on earth did she go??" I was stressed at that point and was getting a terrible headache and just wanted to leave. My husband had to leave our table and go looking for someone to go find her. A crummy server can send the whole experience down the tubes. I guess the manager wouldn't have liked it if we just walked out. Here's a note to the manager: The server's job is done when the people have paid and are on the way out. Then he/she can go have a smoke break, not before.
Outstanding!!!!

This was our first ever visit. Before leaving we read some of the reviews (which weren't too good) and we were a little apprenhensive. It was much ado about nothing and I'm glad to say it was a wonderful evening.
Our server, Summerlyn, was super. She was very attentive and interested in taking good care of us. If you dine here, ask for her.
The butternut squash soup appetizer was excellent. The chateaubriand (for two) was cooked to perfection and delicious! When you factored in the side dishes that come with the chateaubriand (sauteed spinach, mushroom caps and "special" potatoes), it was less expensive than ordering a filet and the usual side dishes.
Mike, the owner, dropped by to visit and discovered it was our anniversary (26 years!). He was very kind to send us a complimentary bread pudding dessert. It is their signature dessert and it really was the best bread pudding I've had in years...and I'm an expert on bread pudding! I order the bread pudding at every restaurant we visit, if it's on the menu.
The dining experience was OUTSTANDING! We would, and will, go again! I can't imagine having a bad time here.
- Pros: Service and food.
- Cons: None.
Nothing to write home about.

I'm so very upset with my experience at Monty's
The night started out promising. We knew there was a piano bar, so we showed up an hour early for our reservations, thinking we'd enjoy a nice drink at the bar. But to our surprise they were able to seat us when we were ready. GREAT
I started with the Oysters and hated it. My Husband had the shrimp cocktail and it was ok. For the main course I ordered the Bone-In Fillet Mignon, which was a spacial for the evening. Jack ordered the overpriced Porterhouse.
The service was slow, it took over an hour to get our main dish. I always ask for my steak Medium-rare. What I got was rare. I was not happy. I showed the waiter my steak.. he tried to explain it was because I was close to the bone. My first thought was, you never argue with the customer and just take it back to the kitchen. While, I tried to find a better cooked part of my steak, Jack sat silently eating his Porterhouse. (Which usually means it's nothing to write home about.) I tried a bite and was not impressed.
At this point, I was all by happy to stop eating my steak. I made sure to turn the steak upright so the next time our waiter came to ask us how we were he'd see it. And sure enough, he did and exclaimed " wow, that is really rare" Well, no duh.. that's what I had tried to tell him 20 minutes ago when I was still interested in the steak. He offered to take it back and have it cooked some more... I flatly told him I was over it and didn't want it. He tried to get back into my good graces by offering me a free desert.. I declined. I was ready to go.
The biggest kicker was when the bill came. Jack's "all-right" porterhouse cost us 65 dollars. Twice the price of my steak. That topped off the night, but us agreeing never go come back.
So all in all.. neither of our steaks were great.. or even worth mention to that matter. Next time, we'll go to Saddle Peak Lodge.
- Pros: none
- Cons: waiter did'nt care
older crowd, mediocre over-priced food
by TCT1974
I went here with a few friends to have drinks and appetizers, listen to some music and just relax in the lounge. We found out that unless you have your AARP card and your platinum AmEx, this might not be the place for you. We're all in our mid 30's and with the exception of maybe 4 or 5 others we were by far the youngest people there. The food was ok but very expensive. I'm used to going to nice restaurants and don't mind paying the prices but $12 for a martini and a $15 shrimp cocktail with 4 shrimp is a bit much. We each had a couple drinks and shared some appetizers and our bill was over $200. We ordered some calamari and it was greasy and tough. I've heard the steaks are good but I won't go back to find out.
Good food-Bad service
by Linda1999
I was somewhat impressed with the food but less than impressed with the service. We called a couple hours ahead for a reservation but when we arrived they had no record of it. An older gentleman who said he was the manager (and who I am sure is the same person I spoke to on the phone) spent more time trying to blame his co-worker than he did trying to seat us. The food was good although over priced. I had the chicken parmesan and it was enough for 4 people. My husband had the prime rib (Diamond Jim Brady) and that was very very good. We had the oysters as an appetizer and they were fresh and plump. The service was very slow and the server was not real friendly. But they do have good food.
- Pros: we were pleased with everything we ordered
- Cons: expensive, rude servers and management
Spend your entire evening here!
by Laura222
This place, although expensive, has something for everyone. A great bar and lounge, a very generous happy hour, a menu of steaks, seafood, pasta, great salads and delicious desserts. They also have plasma TV's throughout the bar area so you can catch a sporting event while relaxing with a glass of wine from their extensive wine list (if the one you want is available!). Later in the evening the TV's go off and the live music begins. You really can spend an entire evening here. I used to go to the Westwood Monty's years ago and always enjoyed it. A few nights ago my boyfriend and I decided to pop in for a drink and being the Laker fans that we are, we were happy to find the game playing in the lounge. We watched the game, had a wonderful dinner and then stayed for the entertainment. The food was top notch! After sharing the bacon wrapped shrimp and a caesar salad we opted to split an entree. We had the New York Strip and it was very tender and flavorful. The only reason I didn't rate this place with 5 stars is that the service was sloooow. Our waitress seemed to be new and was unaware that they were out of the first 2 bottles of wine that we ordered. We are not ones to complain but thought the manager should know that they either need to order those wines or take them off the menu. When the manager came to our table, we were a little surprised that she was a young girl who didn't know any more than our waitress. Other than the less than average service, I would say it was a perfect evening.
- Pros: Food was great
- Cons: Service was very very slow
Great food, bar and music
by SFVT
This place is a bit pricey but the food is very good. My friends and I were so impressed with the happy hour that we've gone back several times in the last few months. They have a nice bar and cocktail lounge where the waiters serve you from large trays of complimentary appetizers. We usually stay for dinner since the steaks are out of this world! The portions are big so we order our own entree (I like their prime rib) and then a few side dishes for the table to share. The creamed spinach and the mashed potatoes are excellent. The baked potatoes are HUGE! On the weekends we like the ambience of the bar/cocktail lounge where they have live music. One of the things I like about the cocktail lounge after dinner is that it's not loud annoying music but it's not elevator music either. This place is mostly an older crowd unless it's a pretty girl on the arm of a sports celebrity or actor! It is L.A. after all! Kind of fun to 'people watch' here. You never know who you might see! I would reccommend this place for the food and the entertainment.
just ok, too pricey
by maria555
The steak was ok. But for the money I would have enjoyed a friendlier atmosphere. It was kind of cold and the server didn't know the menu. The wine list was good but......every bottle we tried to order they were out of.
- Cons: waste of money
