How a Place Goes Down!
by LABideshi at Citysearch
I agree with Sherlock!
This is perhaps the worst of any Indian restaurant. The owner thinks he knows the business, NOT! Food is stale, tasteless, no flavor or texture. I tried Chicken Tandoori--full of food coloring & perhaps the cheapest possible chicken drum sticks available (from Smart & Final). Their flatware, glasses, silverware need serious changing. Inside the restaurant is dirty, like a Romanian gypsy tent. Carpet hasn't been shampoo'd for centuries. Wait staff hardly understands English (what a shame).
At least, these people could make it up with their service. But they fail miserably. Rice was hard, barely edible. Beef vindaloo is the worst ever. Who knows what's the level of their kitchen cleanliness...?
Need I say more...?
- Cons: Worst food, worst service!
Horrible!
by Sherlock at Citysearch
This restaurant is just horrible! I live in Southern California and have eaten at dozens of Indian restaurants. I don't know how they continue to be in business. Their buffet was nowhere comparable to any other restaurant.
So we decided to order from the menu. Seeing how seedy the place looked (layers of dust everywhere and filthy carpet and decor), we ordered only a couple of dishes with trepidation. Our fears were well founded, not a single item was of good quality. We are vegetarians and perhaps they do not know how to cook veggie food. But then even the Nan (bread) was uncooked. Inexcusable and a real waste of time and money. AVOID IT!!!
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
A gem of an Indian restaurant
by teddio at Citysearch
Fine Indian food, tandoori chicken a standout. All the sauces were very good, and the onion bhaji and samosa both great. Never crowded, don't know why, we eat there 3-4 times a month. Fair prices, parking in lot or on street. All in all, much better than the overpriced places on Ventura Bl.
- Pros: quality of food
- Cons: None
Pretty good Indian food
by bpw7 at Citysearch
Decent Indian food at a fair price. Excluding the plastic flowers and hokey atmosphere, the food is pretty good and worth repeat tries. Curries are not oily and the tandorri is well done. booths are roomy. Not romantic, a place for a nice local meal if you enjoy Indian food.
Worst Indian restaurant in USA
by KannanR at Citysearch
I have never had such raw food in an indian restaurant in US. First of all they have used the 'India' name tag to pull the Indian ethnic community as I wonder if there are that many bangladeshis in this area of LA.
The curries offered are pathetic. The formula used is simple - Microwave the mixed vegetable bought from costco add some salt and turmeric and that's it. The owner's attitude is also pathetic. He should know why on a sunday afternoon there will be hardly any person in his restaurant. Guys not worth wasting a penny here.
- Pros: Nothing
- Cons: Pathetic taste
DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

DO NOT GIVE THIS RESTAURANT YOUR BUSINESS!!!
I have eaten at Passage to India several times and have always enjoyed the food. The service & prices are decent as well. Recently, I started to get food delivered from Passage to India because I'm working at home. I live less than 2 mies from the restaurant and have had my food delivered 3 times with a minimum order of $15 and always tip 20% +.
However, I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM PASSAGE AGAIN!!! I just got off the phone with a very rude employee/owner of the restaurant who said that my order is too "cheap" (not a $40 purchase....who orders that much food anyway for one person?) that it's not "worth his time" to have it delivered and that the address is "too far"! I reminded him that I've ordered the same thing 3 times before and never had a problem with delivery or "minimum amount". He continued to argue with me and said that I could come pick it up from the restaurant but he refused to "leave his store for only $15"! How INCREDIBLY RUDE!
I asked to speak to someone else and he said he was the only one there beside the cooking staff.
If he had said in the beginning that he's short staffed and didn't have anyone to make the food run, I'd TOTALLY understand but he had to be a COMPLETE J E R K and refuse service overall!
I'm DEFINITELY never giving them my business again! There are a lot of Indian restaurants in North Hollywood that will give you far better customer service!
- Cons: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! VERY RUDE!!!
Disappointed
by bikerbear at Citysearch
I am from India and I should not jeopardize a compatriots business with negative review, but to be hoenst, i was rather disappointed with the food which was bland and felt like whoever cooked it didn't know what they're doing. It didn't taste authentic, compared to some other great Indian restaurants around here. Its possible that the culture has got to do with the way food was prepared because apparently the restaurant is run by folks from Bengal or Bangaldesh and they are offering food from Punjabi heartland, which is a whole different culture and way too different a food. Enough Said! Well, folks, go try the food yourself. :)
- Pros: Inexpensive!
- Cons: Parking is hard to find
Great find

Located in a small strip mall at Burbank and Hazeltine near Sherman Oaks, Passage to India is a terrific choice for Indian food. I just ate there for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful service and food from this family run business. Dinner includes fantastic somosas, soup, entree, dessert and tea. I had the Tandoori Chicken which was marvelous. There was so much food I had to take some home. Loved the soothing Indian music in background, soft lighting, relaxed atmosphere. A winner!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Quiet, Great food
Neighborhood Restaurant
by Ngila at Citysearch
I live in this neighborhood and we frequent Passage to India - mostly for takeout. Their full course meals are very filling and include soup, rice, main meal, appetizers and rice pudding dessert. Well worth the $12 bucks or so. The tandori chicken is always good, too.
