Just OK, not great
by ggodman at Citysearch
Went for lunch, was not crowed. Had half-rack of spareribs. They were ok but not great. Sauce was good. A bit pricey, $21 for half of ribs (no sides) and coke with tip.
Disappointed

Lunched here with boyfriend Saturday, March 11. Used Zagat guide to find it. The bbq was good, not great. Enjoyed the hot links and brisket, but spareribs were just ok. His chicken was great. Our waitress was lovely (kind, professional, accommodating), but our server was very rude - a rough looking woman with a perpetual smirk and attitude bordering on disrespect. The food wasn't good enough to put up with that. We did not enjoy the sides. We like traditional pork beans and cole slaw. There was something tangy in the beans, maybe cumin? And raisins in the coleslaw with that same tangy taste. I guess we have high standards in bbq and service so agreed not to go back.
- Pros: Decent bbq
- Cons: rude server, bathrooms outside
Gets worse every time

This place constantly is rated #1 in the greater LA area, but I have no idea why. The food average, at best...and rather overpriced..
Okay, but not Texan

Hogly Wogly's food is serviceable, good if you're desperate to satisfy a barbeque jones. I don't think it's quite deserving of its reputation. Dr. Hogly Wogly's hasn't inspired me to end my quest for "real Texas barbeque" in the LA area, and I've managed to find much better all-around barbeque closer to home.
I wasn't impressed

I had the beef sandwich since a couple of co-workers and I decided to go their for lunch. We were astonished at the prices first of all. The baked beans were good and they do give you a lot of meat. However, it was rather tasteless. I'd rather have quality than quantity. It was average. I would like to go back and try the chicken and the brisket that people have been recommending. That will have to come at another time though, when I'm able to splurge. I was disappointed at the amount of money I spent on lunch-- a sandwich and a little side dish.
- Pros: a lot of meat, pleasant waitresses
- Cons: , kinda bland meat

The meat is great, but the side dishes need major improvement.
- Pros: meat, BBQ sauce
- Cons: bread, macoroni salad, beer selection
far from the best

No bad, but far from the best BBQ in Los Angeles. I can't understand why such a high rating. The Bear Pit up the street is vastly better.
