Stuck in the 80's

by StewartC at Citysearch

The service was a little slow but the biggest concern was the food. Everything felt like it hadn't changed since the 80's. From the deep friend brie and sauce to my main course, it just felt uninspired. For the prices, this was not good value for money. The only time you should go there is if you have a picky grandmother with you.

  • Pros: homestyle cooking
  • Cons: stuck in the 80's

Delightful

by tysontysonxv at Citysearch

I had read reviews that complained about how wretched the service was at La Frite, and I could not disagree more. Our server was absolutely delightful and prompt. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here. In fact, I went back again a week later, and enjoyed the same wonderful service.

  • Pros: Great Service, extensive menu

FANTASTIC!

by calgal25 at Citysearch

We wandered in after a terrible experience at another nearby restaurant . What a great surprise! The atmosphere is a bit dated, but the manager and our waitress (Jeri) were both TERRIFIC, and the food was excellent as well. The frites are outstanding, and the bread is warm and crusty - it's just to die for! I'd recommend the baked brie, mussels, and all the meat choices. The fish was nothing exciting, although the portion was enormous. Dessert crepes were very well done. What a warm neighborhood gem! We will definitely be back - they rescued what would have otherwise been a disasterous night!

  • Pros: Food and service are excellent
  • Cons: Parking on Ventura Blvd, atmosphere is dated

Great food, enjoyable experience

by foodbabe818 at Citysearch

I recently ate here for the first time. Unlike some other reviewers, I had no problem at all with the service. It was prompt and frequent. The food was excellent...it's worth the trip just for the bread. And when I asked for a substitution, it was accommodated immediately and without attitude. The tables are very close together and it's a little noisy. But I had a great meal. My friends who went with me eat there regularly, and they say they've never had bad service there. And we were allowed to sit and chat at our table without feeling rushed (just like a restaurant in France).

  • Pros: Food, service
  • Cons: Tables are close together

Very Unprofessional Service in every way

by trisity at Citysearch

We went here because we got a coupon in the mail. But then of course we forgot to take our coupon so we didn't get to use it anyways. Boy that made the dinner even more miserable. When we arrived our table wasn't set so the person that seated us came by while we were reading our menu's and pushed them out of the way so he could literally through down a paper place mat and silverware. To top it off they had nice folded standing napkins that he just plopped down, one made it standing up, the other squished just laying on it's side. After that lovely display we had to listen to a server yelling at her boss right behind us in the dining room. It had the potential to be a very nice place but the people working there ruined every moment. Then in the middle of our dinner our server drops our check. She says she had to because they were closing. It was close to 11pm which was when they closed but as previously being a server myself that doesn't mean through your customers out as soon as the clock strikes closing time. That was ridiculous. We didn't even get to order our dessert. Well we left because they were obviously closing. Went to get our car from valet and the guy was on a little walk. My husband had to get his attention to come back so we could get our car. Then he just hands us the keys, my husband has to pull the car out himself so I can get in because the valet parked it so close to the bushes you couldn't open my door. Then he takes our money and doesn't give us any change. We will never go back there again.

Good food, not great service

by KD58 at Citysearch

The food here is good. They have amazing burgers of different kinds with great little french fries. Also, they do a good twist on crepes, not serving them how you usually see them, but almost like a lasagna. Great lamb chops and duck. The only negative is the service. Waiters look angry and run away from your table so quickly, you don't even have time to place your full order.

  • Cons: unfrindly service

Mediocre food, unfriendly service.

by AMVM at Citysearch

I expected good service and great food from this restaurant, but they really missed the mark. The waiter was unfriendly and never offered us bread or water. My food was mediocre at best and not worth the price. To make matters worst they charged my card twice. When I called to rectify the problem, the lady who answered was rude and not apologetic at all. She gave me a poor explanation and said their office would get back to me. I certainly won't be dinning there again.

Bunch is GREAT!

by foody2thecore at Citysearch

I have dined at La Frite for Lunch, Dinner and Brunch -- Brunch is hands down the best time to go. Brunch is only served on Saturday and Sunday, but the never ending all-inclusive booze makes our weekend morning delightful every time!

  • Pros: Great Brunch!
  • Cons: n/a

Just BAD.

by ls1970 at Citysearch

Slow service, horrible management, mediocre food. I do feel bad saying slow service (management tends to throw many tables at the already inadequate servers, something I noticed having previously worked in restaurants myself) But also, there is a horrible woman working there who I've seen berate her staff, and curse (LOUD) both times I've been there! The reviewer who mentioned "bitter", got the nail on the head! I will never go back. This restaurant is a joke.

  • Pros: Umm... the food was hot?
  • Cons: Everything else.

Great Food, Bad Service

by lauramacky at Citysearch

I am a frequent diner at La Frite. I go to both restaurants (one is by my house, one by my office), I absolutely adore the food. Can't get enough of the crepes, filet mignon and the deserts are to die for (creme brulee is my favorite). However, I can not get over how rude the servers and managers can be. The last time I was at the Sherman Oaks location my waitress really did not seem like she was happy to be there, and was constantly fighting with her co-workers. And at the Woodland Hills location, my waitress ordered the wrong crepe for me, it was fine, I was willing to wait for the correct one, and the manager was rude and accused me of ordering something else...I realize this does happen, but since when is it ok for a manager to yell at me? I have seen her there before and always feel she just seems young and immature. I am within walking distance from both restaurants, depending on if I am home or at work, and will keep on walking if I see either of these employees. They make the amazing food seem almost bitter.

Its a shame to becuase I love the food, but could really do without the attitude.
