burrito oven style is worth the wait every time
by cje1978 at Citysearch
this place is awesome, i used to go all the time (including 3 visits in one day on one occasion) when my friends lived in sherman oaks and i still make the trip from santa monica whenever i can. the wait is never as long as the hostess says and the place is fun. chips are perfectly salted, salsa is just the right level of spice and replaced by the waiters almost too often. i've never ordered anything but the carne asada or carnitas burrito oven styles, but there is no need to bc they are awesome. i have a friend who doesnt even open the menu.
wise1too doesnt know what he or she is talking about. they can stay away and shorten the wait for the rest of us.
NOT GREAT BUT ALWAYS PACKED! WHY GO?
by wise1too at Citysearch
This place is a testament to the stupidity of diners or the triumph of a great location over quality. Good atmosphere, average food, and prices that are not outrageously high but you can go elsewhere and pay less. Does this really sound like the place YOU want to go to? Many do...and wait for a table! To me it's no fun to find just an average restaurant. I want to rave about a place. Nothing here is exceptional...it's packed and loud. I'll go if friends want me to join them but I'd never suggest this place.
Great Mexican food and drinks!

I have been here many times. They always say the wait will be about 40 minutes (you'll see...) but I have never waited more than 10 minutes (you'll see...). The food is good, the ambiance is great, the margaritas are even BETTER! the only thing you have to watch out for is the bartenders - if you pay them in cash, they don't ring up your drink in the register - they will pocket the money. Or, if they do ring it up in the register, they will only ring up half the order and pocket the other half. So now I only pay with credit card. Other than that, it's a great spot.
I live right around the corner and this place is much better than Senor Freds and Mexicali. If you want good food and good service, this is the place to be.
- Pros: Great food, great ambiance, great service
- Cons: The bartenders are shady!
good carne asada burrito!
by sounik1 at Citysearch
I was apprehensive about this place, judging from the reviews I saw online. But, the hostess wasn't bad, she even seated us without our full party (2/3 were there, so it wasnt that bad.) The waiter was dismissive but efficient. The only problem is that the tables are so close together your butt might knock someone elses cup over as you try to squeeze out of your booth (almost happened to me tonight!). The carne asada burrito rocked, (but it was almost the same as the burrito at Las Fuentes, but at Las Fuentes its cheaper and there's no wait, ambiance/shi-shi vibe). It's not half bad.
- Pros: carne asada burrito
The best margaritas in a dark, comfy booth!
by vsusa at Citysearch
Best margaritas in town! The chips are really good, too. I think the food is OK and have yet to discover my favorite dish there. I mainly go for the margaritas and the atmosphere. I love the dark decor and comfy booths. It's a great low key date place.
- Pros: The margaritas, the atmosphere
- Cons: Food is good but not terrific
Don't waste your money!

I just got home from eating at Casa Vega. It cost me and my girl friend over $70.00 and the food was garbage, it was worst than garbage. My girlfriend went right to the bathroom and sat on the toilet for over an hour. My dinner keeps coming up on me and I have thrown up once already. That greedy little Mexican has the nerve to charge you top dollar for that garbage just because a movie star is dumb enough to stop in from time to time. I will never return there again and they call that place a restaurant? .
- Pros: People watching
- Cons: Food
Great food and Maragrita's!!!!

I ended up eating here one night with some co-workers and it was fantastic. Their was about a 20 minute wait so by the time we got seated i was super hungry. It was totally worth the wait. The food was amazing! I loved the atomosphere and the service was great. If you like authentic Mexican food, then go to Casa Vega!
- Pros: maragita's / food
- Cons: the wait
Eat and drink up

Ok, I can't really speak about the service because the owner was a client and I'm sure that his staff went out of the way to make us feel wanted. But, man! The food is always great and they've got margaritas on tap that will have you feeling good after the second one! Mr. Vega is a very proud and kind man. He acts as a greeter on occassion. The place is dark, so it kind of throws you off a bit, but it's still the place to go. Just get there early, because it gets REALLY packed.
- Pros: Food and margaritas on tap
- Cons: Dark
Great food, average atmosphere, pricey drinks
by dburkle at Citysearch
The food at Casa Vega has always been exceptional. The service is inconsistent. I've waited as long as 10 minutes to be greeted and my water doesn't always get refilled as quickly as I'd like. I'm also not a fan of how staggeringly dark the restaurant is.
All that said...it's a very festive, fun place and I've never had a single dish I didn't love. Mexicali down the street might be more fun, but I go to Casa Vega when I'm hungry. And although the drinks are a bit overpriced, they're always very strong.
- Pros: Food and drinks
- Cons: Ambience and price
