WAY overpriced... food just ok.
by Cory LA at Citysearch
I had heard a lot about this place from friends and wanted to give it a shot - I must say I was very disappointed. I had the tortilla soup, which I thought would be amazing - not so much. I also tried the burrito, the "oven" one that comes smothered with red sauce and cheese - not impressed at all. Now, the margaritas. I asked my waiter for a suggestion and after going over a few different ones he insisted on getting the cadillac, and of course going big. The margarita was good, however we were really disappointed when the bill came and we found out how much they were. When I asked the waiter about it he just sort of laughed and said, "Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned that. The other ones are half the price." We split a meal, had one margarita each and our bill was over $70. For all that, you might as well go to Taco Bell and make your own margaritas at home!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Drinks too expensive!
Great place with awesome food!

This place is great! I love the crab and shrimp enchiladas. The margaritas are awesome and definitely pack a punch. Really... the only problem is that it's far from my home, so I don't get to go there too often.
- Pros: Margaritas and Food
- Cons: Occasional wait
GREAT Mexican food and a FUN atmosphere
by Kristen Wallace Tostado at Citysearch
Look no further for a great time with awesome food and a festive atmosphere. I am always on the hunt for better Mexican cuisine and I've found it at Casa Vega. The margaritas are legit, fresh salsas and the food is plentiful and fairly priced. I loved it!!!
True Jewel

I had never heard of or been to Casa Vega before a friends B-Day celebration in August. I'm one of those Los Angeleno's who can be kinda snobby like the part where I've always proclaimed about my dismal discourse surrounding the wasteland known as the 818. When I got there I was immediately put into a happy place because the valet service was so damn cheap(3.50!!!!!) when two days prior I paid 12.00 bucks at BOA on Sunset or BLT Seak who keeps track anymore, them place was dark as hell inside and the vibe was retro , but in that type of way where you can tell its always been like that not cuz they're trying to be kitschy or retro chic, but because the you cant tell the place has probably just looked like that since day one. Being the tequila afficionado and margarita lover that I am I proceeded to order the house Margarita , anyone can make a good cadillac but the house is what ur putting ur name and ur reputation on. The house margarita kocked me on my ass! The thing must have an octane rating and it was tasty too! They brought us complimentary taquitos along with the prerequisite chips n salsa. The prices were reasonable I figured that there arent a lot of mex restaurants around LA with valet good drinks and killer vibe like this place. I guess if u want cheap mex go to B lettered minimall takeout places. Our server LEO was a consumate professional as he navigated us through the menu like a true salesman and not an apethic order taker like i get so many times, i eat out alot so I can spot the difference. After I left I had to really re-think my whole mindset about the valley and the 818. I cant believe I had never been to Casa Vega before, me? The ultimate restaurant goer. I recommend the burrito ranchero covered in chile con Queso I ate the whole thing in a few minutes and wondered where it went, not cuz its small but cuz it wa so damn tasty. All the places I've been to like Loteria Grill , casa, El Coyote, ciudad, El Cholo etc. etc. aint got nothin' on Vega
- Pros: Killer Drinks & Really good food
- Cons: Space @ bar
A Valley Landmark
by JCampbellLA at Citysearch
My family has been going to Casa Vega for three generations. It is true Mexican food with extremely potent margaritas. It is crawling with celebs, hollywood insiders and Valley locals. My favorites are the crispy tacos and the dinner tostada salad. Expect a wait.
- Pros: authentic Mexican food, atmosphere
- Cons: long wait
Good food, big portions!

Had dinner here with a friend for the first time and we loved it. The restaurant was crowded but we didn't wait long to get a table. The food was delicious and the portions generous. i would definitely go back to this place.
Margaritas in the Dark
by ScottVanT at Citysearch
I've been looking for somewhere to get my margaritas-and-not-necessarily-gourmet-food since moving to Sherman Oaks. I needed something to fill the void left by El Coyote.
Two of us stopped into Casa Vega for lunch on a Friday. We didn't wait, but we must have just missed the rush since it was packed just a few minutes later. The cadillac margaritas were great -- the waiter asked first if we'd like doubles and of course we said yes, which led to a little bit of sticker shock when the bill came, but they were delicious so it was worth it.
It's dark wood paneled, land-that-time-forgot 70's-ish decor, and with all the high-backed booths there is a lot of privacy -- this would be a nice place for a date as well as a loud group of friends. Thumbs up.
- Pros: Cozy atmosphere
- Cons: Slightly pricey
Worst Hostess Service EVER
by jenniferlehman at Citysearch
I recently went to Casa Vega with some out of town guests. I knew it would be crowded on a Friday night at 8pm, but we wall wanted some good Mexican food. I was told from the hostess that there was only a 20 minute wait. Myself as well as my out-of-town guests were hungry, but we could stand to wait the extra 20 minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting, the hostess told us we'd be waiting another 20-25 minutes. We left. Why tell me 20 minutes when realistically I am going to wait over an hour? Don't waste my time on a Friday night at 8pm, causing me to have to find another restaurant now at 9pm. I also refused to pay the valet, since we never ate. Stop wasting people's time Casa Vega. For this reason alone, I will never go back there and will never recommend the restaurant to any of my friends.
- Pros: worst hostess service ever
- Cons: Couldn't tell ya, never got to eat.
ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS GETTING YOU OUT BEFORE YOU EVEN GET TO FINISH YOUR MEAL.

I just had a Holiday party with my company at Casa Vega. I can not believe the hurry they were in to kick us out. We were a party of ten+ and our tab was over $500 and the waiter just came and left it on the table, we were not even done ordering. The manager then proceeded to tell us directly that there were people waiting and if we could please hurry up. We were in the middle of a conversation and we weren't even there for that long! I was so emberrassed with my coworkers because I was the one that suggested this place. I have had other incidents at this restaurant. Another time, I took a friend there and they made us move from our table in the middle of our meal because another party was coming in. Oh, they have us a free mini margarita in return :-) Okaaay, that was not enough for the inconvinience. And tonight, for kicking us out they gave me a pen shaped like a Chile...yay! I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER SUGGEST TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS/COWORKERS TO EVER GO HERE AGAIN. The food is overpriced I have had better Mexican food at Guadalajara Grill for much less.
Casa Rip-off

I don?t get it? They charge a premium for mediocre food and horrible service. My son lives in the area and has taken me there twice. The first time I had a carne asada burrito that was more bean than beef plus ridiculously poor service. Despite the poor experience I recently returned with my family for more abuse. Again the food was weak, overpriced and the service took on a new level of rude! When we asked the waiter to take a family picture of our table he responded by saying ?I don?t have time?. That?s going to be my response next time my son wants to take me to Casa Vega.
- Pros: location
- Cons: attitude of the entire staff
