Great place with awesome food!

by Lhutch at Citysearch

This place is great! I love the crab and shrimp enchiladas. The margaritas are awesome and definitely pack a punch. Really... the only problem is that it's far from my home, so I don't get to go there too often.

  • Pros: Margaritas and Food
  • Cons: Occasional wait

GREAT Mexican food and a FUN atmosphere

by Kristen Wallace Tostado at Citysearch

Look no further for a great time with awesome food and a festive atmosphere. I am always on the hunt for better Mexican cuisine and I've found it at Casa Vega. The margaritas are legit, fresh salsas and the food is plentiful and fairly priced. I loved it!!!

True Jewel

by mginhwd at Citysearch

I had never heard of or been to Casa Vega before a friends B-Day celebration in August. I'm one of those Los Angeleno's who can be kinda snobby like the part where I've always proclaimed about my dismal discourse surrounding the wasteland known as the 818. When I got there I was immediately put into a happy place because the valet service was so damn cheap(3.50!!!!!) when two days prior I paid 12.00 bucks at BOA on Sunset or BLT Seak who keeps track anymore, them place was dark as hell inside and the vibe was retro , but in that type of way where you can tell its always been like that not cuz they're trying to be kitschy or retro chic, but because the you cant tell the place has probably just looked like that since day one. Being the tequila afficionado and margarita lover that I am I proceeded to order the house Margarita , anyone can make a good cadillac but the house is what ur putting ur name and ur reputation on. The house margarita kocked me on my ass! The thing must have an octane rating and it was tasty too! They brought us complimentary taquitos along with the prerequisite chips n salsa. The prices were reasonable I figured that there arent a lot of mex restaurants around LA with valet good drinks and killer vibe like this place. I guess if u want cheap mex go to B lettered minimall takeout places. Our server LEO was a consumate professional as he navigated us through the menu like a true salesman and not an apethic order taker like i get so many times, i eat out alot so I can spot the difference. After I left I had to really re-think my whole mindset about the valley and the 818. I cant believe I had never been to Casa Vega before, me? The ultimate restaurant goer. I recommend the burrito ranchero covered in chile con Queso I ate the whole thing in a few minutes and wondered where it went, not cuz its small but cuz it wa so damn tasty. All the places I've been to like Loteria Grill , casa, El Coyote, ciudad, El Cholo etc. etc. aint got nothin' on Vega

  • Pros: Killer Drinks & Really good food
  • Cons:  Space @ bar

A Valley Landmark

by JCampbellLA at Citysearch

My family has been going to Casa Vega for three generations. It is true Mexican food with extremely potent margaritas. It is crawling with celebs, hollywood insiders and Valley locals. My favorites are the crispy tacos and the dinner tostada salad. Expect a wait.

  • Pros: authentic Mexican food, atmosphere
  • Cons:  long wait

burrito oven style is worth the wait every time

by cje1978 at Citysearch

this place is awesome, i used to go all the time (including 3 visits in one day on one occasion) when my friends lived in sherman oaks and i still make the trip from santa monica whenever i can. the wait is never as long as the hostess says and the place is fun. chips are perfectly salted, salsa is just the right level of spice and replaced by the waiters almost too often. i've never ordered anything but the carne asada or carnitas burrito oven styles, but there is no need to bc they are awesome. i have a friend who doesnt even open the menu.

wise1too doesnt know what he or she is talking about. they can stay away and shorten the wait for the rest of us.

Eat and drink up

by dgc1987 at Citysearch

Ok, I can't really speak about the service because the owner was a client and I'm sure that his staff went out of the way to make us feel wanted. But, man! The food is always great and they've got margaritas on tap that will have you feeling good after the second one! Mr. Vega is a very proud and kind man. He acts as a greeter on occassion. The place is dark, so it kind of throws you off a bit, but it's still the place to go. Just get there early, because it gets REALLY packed.

  • Pros: Food and margaritas on tap
  • Cons: Dark

Top secret salsa?

by yorki_dad at Citysearch

Ok people, I've read the reviews and it's time for all you all to know what's the real deal with this place. I started eating here, 1st time at lunch, over 20 years ago. Number 1. they still have 6 servers still on staff that I recongize from that 1st time, some bald, some not, all still rude. As you know, after all these years I am recongnized as well and they still don't show any partiality. As was the 1st time I walked through the door, the place is a dark throw back to the days of old, Vegas like cause you never know what time of day it is after you spend an hour in there. The bar mixes right in with the 1st part of the layout with booth's and tables to the left of the bar and around the back left side of the bar. Very loud to eat in this section if it's packed. Then as you trip ( beware after a few margies) into the upper eating area you'll find tables and booth's as well. Sure, they bunch you up in there and you may actually have to look at someone while you eat, but isn't that what socializing is all about? And if you're a gossip, woe! Cause you will hear some stories in there, I could write a book after 20 years of eating here. There are plenty of star sights as well, I've seen so many it's a joke. They go here cause it's dark and busy and being studio city, don't matter if your flaming gay or a super star cause no one cares, it's too dark to care. That write up about Mr Vega giving that gay guy a hard time, well he probably deserved it, he was probably way too slithery for other people to watch cause again, you're right on top of each other in here. The owner does not care weather or not you like the place cause it's packed everyday & night, why would he. Food? The food rocks! End of story. This is what makes the place, consistancy. 20 + years ago I ordered to ground beef toco's in a combo. The tostada salad was perfect, the food hot and amazing, taste....ummm! You've heard of AA, I now belong to CV Anonymous. Get it? Go away haters, to toco bell....

  • Pros: Food, location, chips & salsa, margies
  • Cons: Old stuffy waiters who think they are kings

Can't get enough of this place!

by kwinston76 at Citysearch

I lauged when I read the last review, the reviewer obviously hasn't a clue about how much things should or shouldn't cost or taste!!

I go to this place at least once a week, so I feel I must defend it! First, the valet charge that he/she complained about is only $2.50!! Plus, $18 for two good margaritas is not a bad deal at all, and trust me, the margaritas at CV are tasty AND strong, even the house tequila!

The vibe in this place is definitely better at night, and is always busy! The seating usually isn't prompt, but only because there isn't enough seating to go around! The food is delicious, presented well, and very authentic! I would recommend the Burrito Ranchero, it's pretty good, and only about $10.

All in all, I say if you want to experience the place for what it is, have a great time!! However, if you are uptight or have very strict expectations, you probably shouldn't eat here (or anywhere else besides McDonald's or your own home, for that matter).

If you don't have a problem paying a moderate price for your drinks, or paying the outrageous $2.50 for valet service, come to CV! I will probably see you there!!

  • Pros: Great food/drinks and good service!!
  • Cons: Sometimes long wait to eat

Great authentic mexian food

by criticatheart at Citysearch

This place is so good!!! the mexican food here comes in big portions, probably enough for two people!!It's somewhat on the expensive side but you are guaranteed not to let that affect your tastebuds!!it is very dark inside so be careful coming around the corners, but its ultra private(a lot of celb sighting if you can make out their faces LOL!)I love the chesse soup that comes as an option with every meal(or you can have the meatball soup or their salad on a tortilla shell)I always order the combo plates so I can have leftovers for the next day(2 items rice and beans and one of the options I mentioned above)The service is great, never had a complaint about it at all..only thing is that you can not make reservations so most nights you have at least a 20min. wait but its worse Fri and Sat nights more like a hour wait but believe me its worth it!! OOO!! the margaritas are the best and they are strong too!!! ENJOY!!!!

  • Pros: ambience, happy hour, service and food
  • Cons: waiting for table, a little too dark at times
