Formerly great valley bar has taken a "dive"
by brodiebruce at Citysearch
The Sweep used to be one of my favorite anonymous watering holes in the valley. Great place to just roll out with a few friends, grab a drink or two, hang out, listen to some tunes, shoot some pool and not be bothered. They last few times though, they seem to have forgotten they are a dive bar in the valley. Waits to get in. Attitude at the door. This place is a dive bar and now takes up famous "Hollywood tactics" such as making people wait in a line outside even though the place is empty inside. Avoid at all costs until they wake up. If I wanted to go out to a place like this I'd go over the hill. Check out The Green Frog just down the street instead. They get it there.
Cheap libations and a stellar staff make this sometimes well-kept secret a Valley favorite.

In Short
Leather booths, swivel chairs and wood wall paneling create a fun, retro feel largely free of pretense-- "Cheers" if it were a happy dive. The staff often remembers patrons and their friends after only one or two visits and rarely does a customer go ten minutes without being offered another drink, popcorn or pretzels. The jukebox sports a sweet variety from old-school rap to Garth Brooks, providing an eclectic soundtrack for dart players, pool shooters and sports fans.
A fun little dive bar in the Valley
by freebie_grabber at Citysearch
My Valley pals introduced this place to me a few months ago, and I wasn't disappointed. The bartenders might have one foot in the grave, but they still know how to pour a beer or mix a drink. The ambiance is a throwback to a rumpus room in a 1970's Ohio basement. The jukebox has something for everyone. There's a steady influx of hipsters, including plenty of pretty young ladies who are actually willing to talk to guys (*gasp*)! A note to newcomers: don't stand in front of the unmarked door toward the back, waiting for someone to come out... it's a supply closet, not a bathroom!
- Pros: Hip, low-key, cheap
- Cons: well, if you don't already live in the Valley, then you're looking at a schlep.
Last time they we're too cool for us

I've been to "The Sweep" a few times. It was't bad the first couple times. Good crowd. It seemed like they needed another bartender or two. The last time I went I wasn't impressed. I showed up with a bunch of friends and the "bouncer" kept us waiting for quite a while--so long that we decided just to go somewhere else. It's really not the type of place thats worth the wait in my opinion.
- Pros: Younger crowd, lots of ladies
- Cons: Too crowded, staff rude
