Shockingly Bad

by Andyppk at Citysearch

Visiting from out of town and came for dinner on 27 July. The bar itself looks great. Nothing else to recommend it. Dirty table covered in salt and soda, which I had to ask to be cleaned. Food was almost inedible. Onion ring appetizer was as burnt as it was greasy. Steak main course covered in putrid, tasteless sauce. Dishes sat in front of me for 25 minutes after I finished and couldn't get the server's attention to bring check for at least ten minutes. Only 7.30pm but a group of girls on next table were screaming so hard my ears were bleeding, with no attempt to keep them in check. They didn't deserve the 10% tip I left. Hostess reading a book and didn't say goodbye when I (gladly) left. Just horrible. Will never go back. Better off at McDonald's!

nothing to write home about

by barbarianhr at Citysearch

I work near Casey's and decided to head there for lunch for the first time. I was excited because I am a HUGE fish 'n chips and Guinness guy. as we walk down the stairs (co-worker and I), I say to myself: "self, this place is nice".. little did i know the aesthetics of the pub itself would be the only positive attribute to the establishment.

we look over the menu as we're seated (i knew what i was getting before i even got there, but looked anyway..), and my co-worker ordered the "chicken caprese sandwich", while i got the fish 'n chips. when the food arrived, his chicken sandwich was slightly warm at best, so he returned it to get it reheated. it came back minus a pickle and it was as if they had toasted the bread rather than warm the entire sandwich. he asked for it to be reheated once more and was turned down because the manager "was not in".

in conclusion, given the cold chicken sandwich, mediocre fish 'n chips (talk about bad cut of cod), warm Guinness and servers with attitude problems, this place is, for lack of a better term, undesirable.

  • Pros: Guinness, Harp and Smithwick's on tap, and Irish Pub atmoshphere
  • Cons: pretty much everything else

Great downtown hangout

by leschnei at Citysearch

Casey's is a great place for a casual night out. The downtown working crowd heads there for after-work drinks, while USC students use it as a late night hangout. They have a jukebox! What more do I have to say!

  • Pros: Good selection, laid-back atmosphere
  • Cons: Limited parking

A WASTE OF A BEAUTIFUL SPACE

by girlcomesaround at Citysearch

Where do I start? Casey's had a chance to make it when they hired a new chef who created an inspired menu, but that was back in 2006. Now Casey's has reverted back to terrible, fried bar food with no originality or taste. Our waitress admittedly knew nothing and failed to credit me for my opentable reservation even though I explained to her the opentable system and the no-show issue. Even though the place was empty our waitress was inattentive while the food was bad and the bottled beer was not cold. I called the next day to complain because they still have the old (good) menu listed on their website which I felt was misleading. The person who answered the phone gave me the same excuse the waitress did the night before" Our website is under construction." Usually when a website is under construction it says so and it doesn't mislead with flat-out incorrect information about an establishment. I also complained about the fact that our waitress did not give me opentable credit for my reservation. First I was told that Casey's only uses opentable as a secondary means of making reservations (whatever that means) and then he said that his restaurant's short experience with opentable hadn't been good. I defended opentable as a long-time user and promptly complained to opentable about Casey's.

In addition: bathroom is kinda gross, must walk through smoking section to enter bar, they tout their huge music selection but unless you pay for the jukebox they don't plat music at all (3 plays for $2.00 is too expensive); tiny booths; disorganized.

Don't give this bar your time or money. It's a lovely bar, but that's it.

  • Pros: Lovely bar
  • Cons: gross bathroom, bad srevice, terrible menu, warm beer

Great weekend afternoon hangout

by timtest100 at Citysearch

Casey's is a great place to grab a book, order a beer, and just relax in a dark corner on a Sunday afternoon. During the busier sports seasons the place can be a little loud but if you time it just right in the year you wont be disappointed by the calming bar atmosphere this place can provide.

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, great food, awesome bartenders
  • Cons: Depending on the season it can be quite loud, or too quiet.

Subterranean Irish bar offers refuge from the downtown hustle and bustle.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Between the pressed-tin ceiling, the moose head and the massive mahogany bar, you may start to feel like this subterranean bar is actually a vortex to 1930s Chicago. Film producers are hip to the place's otherworldly charm and featured it in the X-Files feature film "Fight the Future." Speaking of conspiracies, Casey's offers discreet, high-backed wooden booths to discuss those theories. The backroom offers even more privacy with booths that can be cordoned off with heavy velvet curtains.

The Draw
Brash young businesswomen, savvy pool sharks and seasoned downtown lawyers flock downstairs for a post-work shot of whiskey.

Why take reservation when you are not open!?

by meteoric7 at Citysearch

I made a reservation through OpenTable at Casey's hoping to enjoy a nice dinner on Christmas Day. We found out that Casey's was closed after we've spent an hour of driving and searching (partly because of the fact that they were not open, made it even more difficult to find it). It was very frustrating because you all know how most restaurants are closed on the 25th, and the hassle we had to go through to find an open restaurant after this last minute change of plan was extremely unbearable. It was also partyly my fault not to call the restaurant to confirm after I have received email confirmation of my reservation. For this reason I'm giving it a 3 instead of 0.

Largest selection of Beers, and NFL Sunday TICKET. What else could you want!

by gumboy411 at Citysearch

Casey's is a great Irish Pub. It's located right in the center of downtown and feels like a really authentic Irish pub. It probably feels so authentic because it has a long history in downtown. The best thing about Casey's is probably their amazing happy hour. I can get beer and a ton of appetizers for $3 bucks each. They are now open on Sundays too with NFL Sunday ticket so I have kind of made Casey's my own NFL homebase.

  • Pros: Happy Hour, Hot Bartenders, People
  • Cons: when it's packed you get bathroom lines for the guys.

Cool vibe

by pacifictime at Citysearch

When you think of a downtown Irish bar on a weeknight, you'd probably expect dead. Not here. I was totally surprised. Not only did this place have a great, mixed crowd, live music and cool decor, everyone seemed to be having a great time. I came for a drink, and ended up staying for many drinks. I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends.
