With more than 50,000 electronic items in each store, this high-tech superstore offers one-stop shopping and service for professionals and hobbyists.

by Nancy Hunter at Citysearch

In Short
Family-founded in the heart of Silicon Valley in 1985, Fry's has become a staple for technophiles in the Western U.S. Keeping up with the latest technological trends, it offers quality computer hardware and software, audio and video equipment and telecommunication products. Each store, which range in size from 50,000 to 180,000 square feet, decorates the aisles with its own unique theme--from Alice in Wonderland to Atlantis--making every shopping trip a fun experience.

The self-serve gas station of electronics

by joeborden at Citysearch

Fry's is little more than a warehouse chock full of your electronics needs and wants. The prices and selection can be pretty special, and it really helps to check circulars to see what deals they're pushing at the time. I highly recommend coming in with your homework done, as customer service is chaotic and frustrating. Don't bother with the warranty, because you NEVER want to deal with their customer service and repair division, which is just a run-around distributor, specializing in excuses.

Like so many other shopping experiences, you can fight the masses, punish yourself, and save a few dollars OR you can spend a little extra cash and keep the Advil in the bottle, where it belongs.

  • Pros: selection, prices, location
  • Cons: confusing layout, long lines, customer service

Never Again!!!

by littledante at Citysearch

I went to Fry's because I had a problem with my new digital camera. I showed them what was wrong with my camera, and left it there. Once I got it back, I noticed it wasn't charging....the battery was missing. I called Fry's and they said they aren't responsible for "extras" with my camera. Worse, I asked to speak with a manager, and they put me on hold for 30 minutes! When I called the customer service department back, there was no answer! I even stopped by there to talk to someone and they told me there was no manager there at the time. I have called back many times, and just get the "run-around." Because of their stupidity, I have to buy another battery for my camera! They are very expensive! Needless to say, I will NOT be buying it at Fry's. FRY'S IS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE!!!!

  • Cons: poor customer service, long waits, un-trustworthy staff

Fry me to the Moon...

by shadowphoenix at Citysearch

I just don't know about the others, but my wife and I had a blast! First of all, the store looks like a hollywood movie. There's a giant spaceship made to look like it crashed into the building and that theme carries into the store itself. Now Fry's is like an outlet, and it's always best to know your machine before you shop. Like any store, not everybody knows everything. The suggestion to adapt was perfect for me. The price to add 2 USB ports to one of my PCI slots, 128MB of ram, and a new printer was less than what it would have cost to repair my old printer. We played with the demo stuff without being hasseled, no wait at all in line on a weekend and everybody was friendly. That's not the service I'm used to -- unfortunatley. I hope everytime is like that one.

  • Pros: Great looking store, Big parking lot, easy, Prices are comparable
  • Cons: Can get busy..., Can get crowded..., Can get noisy...

Good prices - poor service

by xagen at Citysearch

Much like Best Buy, you can get some great deals here. But trying to get help here is similar to trying to find Sasquach. I heard they exist...

this place sucks!

by emad at Citysearch

I've never had worse experiences shopping for computers/electronics than I did at Fry's...and when I finally got the equipment at home, opening the package revealed not only that they were used (even though they weren't marked that way), but they did not work either.

good for sales

by acereclipse at Citysearch

This place is good if you know what you want and what price you saw it for but most stores when you walk in they have people ready to help you hear the y just stand there but there is a couple of cool people working there that will help you but mostly id just go there knowing what you want. and not talking to anyone that works therect the cashier.

  • Pros: good sales
  • Cons: poor customer service

Weak customer service...

by aaron at Citysearch

I've been going to Fry's for years and I've learned one thing. Unless you already know exactly what you want and you've checked to see they have the best price, don't waste your time. The poor customer service and long lines aren't worth it. If you need to ask for help or suggestions, this is not the place. Save yourself frustration and do your research somewhere else. They do have good sales and I still go to get a good deal occasionally. Otherwise, skip this joint.

  • Pros: Good Selection, Good Value
  • Cons: Horrible Service, Crowded
