Worst Food I have had in memory

What a horrible experience this was. After getting our drinks we found out that the ice tea tasted like water. Then after waiting for 20 min we got our order taken.

After the food arrived we ended up eating some of the worst stuff I have ever had. The burger I got was a defrosted, reheated, hunk of flavorless junk. The fries with them where freezer burned.

My girlfriend got a piece of garlic toast topped with flavorless turkey and out of a jar gravy. Mash potatoes which where just that. Mashed up potatoes with nothing else in them. and a side of cold slaw that was just chopped up cabbage in water.

This would have to be one of the worst meals I have had in a long time and would ask everyone to stay away from this restaurant if they want to have a pleasant evening

Nostalgic Burbank Burger Location

A classic burger hangout in Burbank, I've been going here with friends since junior high school days. I'm a pushover for the blue cheese dressing, and bacon burgers are my favorite. I have not ordered much other than my usual... bacon cheeseburger, fries, blue cheese dressing, and a chocolate shake. I won't say they are the best burgers in the world but something about "growing up at Bobs" has me continuing to come back.

• Pros: Plenty of Parking unless lot filled w/classic cars
• Cons: What could be bad about eating meat, bacon, and chocolate?

A definite landmark restaurant that still thrives

You know it really gives you a terrible feeling when you read about other people's delimmas such as finding a small live worm crawling around on the veggies in their food. But, considering burgers do have tomatoes, onions, and lettuce, actually this could easily happen at any restaurant offering this kind of product or similar fare but, did two different people in their group really need to review with the same exact complaint on the same day? If you accidently ate it before seeing it, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt you, but at least it wasn't something worse, like a c**kroach. I've been a customer of this specific Bob's location since the late 1960's, for more than 30 years. I can say I've never had an experience like this and even if I did, it wouldn't stop me from going again. Another diner complained that the food no longer tastes like it once did including the salad dressings among other things. I still eat here a couple times a month and the selections I have eaten still taste to me, like they always did. Yes, I'm sure there have been minor changes over the years but not enough to make a big difference. I happen to know that certain products like their Bob's special relish and the salad dressings have been made to secret recipes since their introduction years ago, they have no reason to change them. Read for yourself, most all the other reviews say what they should, that this is a great place to eat so give it a try and have some lunch and a bit of nostalgia sometime.

• Cons: Parking on Friday classic car nights, long waits during busy meal periods

this one deserved a first review for me

so you walk in, its got the 50's diner vibe, actually quite pulls it off, i believe they even have car stop service on weekends, which is very nifty. food is not wolfgang puck, but it tastes fantastic. waitresses are nice, quick, atmosphere is very humble, i can see it geting quite packed and loud on weekends though. ordered the new york steak, can honestly say it was a pretty damn good steak for 11.50 with all the sides and salad! in short, i wish i lived closer to the area so i could come out more often, but this place definitely beats dennys or ihop. and not to mention fridays are classic car shows! wahoo!

• Cons: cant see parking lot from inside, doesnt matter much though

Ruined Dinner

I just finished telling my mother-in-law about Bob's Big Boy on Riverside Drive and raving about their delicious burgers when the unexpected just seems to happen on the worst of times. Right in the middle of consuming my favorite bacon cheese burger my 5 year old daughter grabs our immediate attention saying, "There's something moving on the purple vegetable (purple onions)!" After looking at it more closely it was a tiny little worm with green rings around it. It wasn't your slow to re-act sluggish kind, but it was a worm that advances speedily. Let me be clear, this burger was served to my sister with an active, alive worm creeping and crawling all about in her burger unknowingly. We concluded that the worm came from the burger lettuce and good thing she took it out before eating her burger.

Now for the unfortunate disappointment: We informed our waitress immediately and she witnessed the worm still moving alive on a plate and so she calls for her manager and here we were hoping that this disgusting incident may be pacified with at least some comforting and humble words but instead Patty the manager diminished the whole incident like as if it wasn't a "biggy." I don't know about you, but how often do you eat your meals with moving creatures in it? My whole family could no longer continue eating the food in front of us. Our appetite was completely ruined. And all the manager could do was pick up the worm, confirm it was a worm and just squash it front of us and flick it to the ground and say ?what else can I get for you in replace of the burger?? As if anyone can eat food from their kitchen after that incident. We were thankful that she deducted from our bill the one burger that had the worms but how can we be so sure that it wasn?t on mine or my mother-in- laws as well? There was no effort at all on the manager?s part on trying to appease our ruined dinner.

Beware of lettuce worms

I honestly love Bob's big Boy and always enjoy the Bacon-Cheeseburger. This time my experience wasn't all that great. Lets just say I'm so happy that I took out my lettuce.

I always take out my lettuce and tomatoes out of my burger because its to big. This time when i did my niece saw something moving on the onion and saw that it was a green worm from the lettuce. Immediately we informed the waitress, who was of good service, and she called the manager Patty. Unfortunately, all the manager did was take out my order even though all of us had either a burger or salad. She handled it so poorly. When she saw the worm all she did was pick it off the plate and then squished it in her hands and flicked to the floor..oh yes in my direction too! She was acting like it was a piece of hair or nothing serious (which im sure it wasnt but the thought...) as if she just didnt care.

food? delicious...Disgusting? yes...management? sad...

When we finally got our check, the waitress felt so bad and also added her discount to our check.

Better when the old man ran it.

Bobs gave up fresh cooking their food, and also gave up their unique seasonings and salad dressings decades ago.

Foodlover 52s review above is from a myopic manager with the company who will run it into the ground with bad quality like they did before.

Bobs sold off it's fine line of dressings, relishes and seasonings and closed their excellent bakery 30 years ago.

The items Bob's uses today are not a shadow of the good tasting products they once offered.

Bobs had longer wait lines than In & Out. The only lines Bobs has now are their employees at the unemployment office.

Now the food is way way below par, nothing like when the old man Bob Wian ran the chain and quality set them apart. Beware of positive shill reviews from company employees!! They are full of balony.

The chain is trying to resurrect itself, but still the very stale cooked days ago menu that eventually ruined the chain once before is back in play.

But, this location is cool if you are a car nut.

We go Sunday nites for the car hop service, and always drive away wondering why they let the quality food go for a bland, pre-cooked line of tasteless fare.

It was better when the old man ran it.

Beware of Bobs company employees with sham, positive reviews.

A once great burger and menu is no more.

Best tasting burger in the world

I have been eating at Bobs for over 50 years... and still fly 5000 miles once a year to eat at the Toluca Lake Bobs.... I have eaten at the best in the world and from Haut cuisine of Paris to all the" best Burger places in the world. The result is plain and simple.... Bobs beat them all.

Why?

Well the problem is all the other burger places using everything from Kobe to Black Angus, homemade buns or sourdough, all came into being in the last few decades... all truing to outdo the other with gimmicks and and addons like bacon, caviar, exotic cheese and every form of salad bar stock from sprouts to eggplant...

What they miss is that the original Bobs has been producing the same burger...consistently since 1936.. thats over 72 years..... I mean, Bobs was making the double-deck Big Boy for 23 years when Tommys opened...

.. More meat, or cheese or anything would overpower the way in which this little Rolex of a burger plays out on your tastebuds

Its not a salad bar on a bun......each flavor in the Big Boy retains its flavor and can be tasted in layers... not a melange of stuff........ Its relish is like none other in the world... and makes this Burger what it is...unique in the world.. And dont get the extra size burger with more meat.... it is totaly out of harmony with the rest of the burger... which is Zen on a bun

Stick to the mainstays as as time went on the menu expanded to include a lot of items better eaten elsewhere....Mexican or Italina...

The Big Boy..... is not gourmet meat, nor served in a trendy bistro, with beautiful people and organic, home made anything. Its where you go to impress yourself ... There is a reason that Bon Hope used to come by regulary, and Jay Leno still does. There was a reason the Beatles used to fill their burger hunger here,, Apple inventor Steve "Woz"calls the Big Boy the ultimate in burgers. By the way I like them a lot, now where are those plane tickets

good for family outings

this place used to be sort of a seedy hole in the wall but once it got historical status (oldest remaining bob's), that really turned it around. now it's all about families, with classic car shows saturday, car hop service on sunday. plus there's a pretty patio in front. food is pretty average, but it's more about the experience. it's open 24 hours too, which is nice.

• Cons: food only average, waits at peak times

Classic!

Family is very welcome here. Lot's of great memorabilia to look at. The food is greasy but good. If you want a classic greasy burger with fries or a yummy shake, this is your place.

Honestly though, I can't believe they haven't updated that creepy statue yet. lol
