Fresh produce and gourmet frozen foods sold at affordable prices.
by Martha Burr
In Short
Founder Joseph Coulombe started this L.A.-based convenience chain 34 years ago. Today, you can get exotic, prepackaged frozen foods, fresh salsas, huge portobello mushrooms, baby artichokes and heirloom tomatoes fresher--and cheaper--than at most supermarkets. Inexpensive meat, fish, coffees and teas, dozens of cheeses, grains and pastas cram the shelves. The frozen section features tasty treats, including barbecue chicken pizzas, mushroom risotto and salmon patties. Beer, wine and liquor sections are stocked with very affordable labels.
crowded but great store

It's always crowded to shop here, (it's just too good) but the parking generally isn't too bad. I love their frozen goat cheese pizza and california rolls, but pretty much everything is good.
My favorite place!

My favorite place to go! This Trader Joes is close to home and has a variety of its own brand of cookies, breads, soy milk, etc., with cut flowers and potted plants. Good prices, friendly service. If they are out of something they will order it for you. - I would suggest checking dates of packages -the plastic boxed salads don't hold up too well, and the fresh berries are very good, but sometimes are spoiled before you get home. It gets crowded and you have to squeeze through the crowd to get checked out. Parking is limited too.
- Pros: products, service
- Cons: crowded, parking
