Best Mexican Food
by jtrujillo724 at Citysearch
If you going to go out for some mexican food, you got to go to Ernies! It's the best. I love this place and their burritos are the sh*t! Everybody should come here.
First visit
by JasonPelsey at Citysearch
A buddy of mine mentioned that I had to try the burritos at this restaurant and even though it's not exactly around the corner from me, I went for the first time last weekend. Have to admit their largest burrito was not only good, it was GREAT. Will definitely be making another trip soon.
- Pros: BURRITOS
- Cons: there's only one in LA... they need a chain
Good old-fashioned Mexican Restaurant
by plansforyou at Citysearch
The charm to this place is definitely the old feel ... the minute you step inside, it's a different time era. A restaurant that has been established for 50 years needs little explanation to why it's still there -it's just plain good. Margaritas are make your mouth water, not to mention the addictive chips & salsa. Not too many people know about their delicious hamburgers, YES, I said hamburgers... once you try them, you'll never go back. But definitely, the skylab burrito is where it's at. Few restaurants have that "mom and pop" feel, and this place has managed to retain it, which keeps attracting customers like myself.
- Pros: Good food, margaritas, old-fashion, authentic
- Cons: none
Best "Old School" Mexican Around
by jeffusc1 at Citysearch
I have tried a lot of the "old school" Mexican places in town, and Ernie's is about the best. The food isn't the most healty but it sure tastes good. I have enjoyed everything I have had, from the delicious albondigas soup, to the just-right rice and beans and terrific tacos and taquitos. At first I thought this place was a dive but the decor has grown on me over the years. It's old, but it has authentic atmosphere (unlike so many places these days.) The service is always good and the prices are fair. I do agree with another reviewer's opinion of the solo piano player - not right for a Mexican place and often downright annoying. FYI, he is only there on Sunday evenings and I usually avoid going for that reason. They have tradiotnal Mexican music on Friday and Saturday nights which is nice.
- Pros: Good food, fair prices, usually no wait

Longtime neighborhood Mexican restaurant staple, this cavernous space features enchiladas plates, hearty burritos and its signature guacamole dip.
Good Food, abominable entertainment
by killerfoodjunkie at Citysearch
Ate here for the first time, food was tasty, drinks were good. The music was AWFUL. They had a live musician playing American standards, "Imagine" by John Lennon, "I Like You Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel and so on. Why would a Mexican restaurant steep in traditon including staff, decor and food, host a 1-person band that in 4 notes or less, destroys the experience. Definitely recommend restaurant for easy local dining. Be sure to call ahead to see if the "band" is playing. If so, avoid.
- Pros: authentic Mexican food
- Cons: the music
BEST POTATO TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by criticatheart at Citysearch
Before I came to Ernie's I thought my days of eating tacos were over, since I Became a vegetarian, but then I saw tacos de papas!!!I asked the waiter what is this??He said potato tacos...I was in heaven from that day on. The tacos de papa are hard shelled with a mixture of potatoes and onions and seasonings, then topped with cheese lettuce and salsa, comes with rice and beans.BEST TACOS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have been to a couple other mexican spots that have these tacos but the taste is always bland...they also have great service, never had to wait more than 5 mins even on a busy night.they are very helpful and will suggest somet hing for you if your are not sure of what you want. they have great drinks and other food items too...my husband loves the gringo special, which is crabmeat enchiladas with a green sauce...MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GOOD!!!!ENJOY!!
- Pros: potato tacos, service, free parking in lot
Never a wait and never trendy!
by ferelli27 at Citysearch
This place gets to be crowded on typical Friday or Saturday nights, but never have I had to wait more than 10 minutes. They somehow always take you in!!! The gentleman that OPENS THE DOOR FOR YOU is just the cherry on top. Where else will you find that sort of service... only at a family owned restaurant. Very friendly place but not too trendy!
- Pros: never a wait, killer tacos, very friendly
hot stuff!
by mexrest03 at Citysearch
everyone has to try the salsa, chips along with a frozen margarita. what a killer combo... i attended the school across the street and every Sunday we'd have brunch here. It's still a tradition in my family and as long as the food stays as it is, it always will be. good stuff!
- Pros: great food, amazing margaritas
Great for special events
by melanie garcia at Citysearch
We recently celebrated my daughter's wedding reception at Ernie's and the service was great. The nice lady in the front was able to work out a special menu for our guests (vegetarians included). They set up their main banquet room the way we had asked to be decorated, with white table clothes and burgundy napkins and fresh flowers at every table- very classy. They appointed two servers to our party and both were extremely attentive and friendly. The margaritas were amazing, not too strong but the right about of tequila. Their fajitas fed our party of 80 and the ambience makes you feel like you're at home. I would highly recommend this place for your special events.
- Pros: Good food, Attentive servers, Good prices
