Overpriced

by Ello Ello at Citysearch

Brought me an estimate of $1200-1450 for something I had treated 5 years ago for $150. Needless to say, I wasn't on board. Eventually got them down to $600, after an hour, while my cat sat in pain waiting for treatment. I despise these tactics when I'm buying a car, let alone when one of my family members is in pain and waiting!!!!! Also, they have a recording device, a microphone technically and a disclaimer allowing them to monitor your waiting room; a little more big brother than I'm used to in a vet and I'm not sure they didn't brainwash me into paying the $600. Seriously though, cat owners: only feed them high quality, magnesium free food. You'll save money and avoid being manipulated.....

  • Pros: Competent
  • Cons: Overpriced and use hardball sales tactics

Animal Emergency Centre saved my kitty!

by Missie12 at Citysearch

The Animal Emergency Centre, and Dr. Morgan Cavanaugh in particular, saved my cat. She was lethargic, sick and not at all herself. As soon as I brought her in to the Animal Emergency Centre, she was treated with care and concern. Within just a few hours, Dr. Cavanaugh had her back to her normal perky self.

Unbelievably thorough and caring

by cattyone at Citysearch

I had my Jack Russell in to see Dr. Reis and was treated with concern and professionalism. I have had Daisy in on numerous occasions and have always felt confident in the care she has received from the entire staff. I can't imagine what the person is going on about AEC being a bunch of liars and con people. It seems to me the same person has written a number of reviews.I hope that readers will realize this and not allow this to deter them from a compassionate, professional and possibly lifesaving experience.

  • Pros: compassionate, professional and caring
  • Cons: possible wait if not as urgent as other pets

What is he ranting about?!

by kittynana12 at Citysearch

I just came home from a great experience at the Animal Emergency Center and I wanted to write a positive review. When I logged onto CitySearch I found what appears to be the rantings of a madman in multiple postings. Why do they allow this to continue being posted? It is obvious that this man is unstable and is unhappy about something that happened but the fact that he keeps posting these unintelligible rants is insane. I hope that other users of this site recognize that one of the problems with the internet ratings like this is the lack of accountability and editing. I have no idea what he is going off about but it all sounds like slander to me. My dog was at this hospital tonight with Dr Cavanaugh after he had a seizure. I was so scared when it happened and I didn't know what to do. The staff was very calming when I arrived with Toby and they helped me with him right away. Dr. Cavanaugh was so professional and caring and he explained everything in a way I could understand. Toby came home with me and he is doing fine thanks to the great care at Animal Emergency Center. I suggest that you ignore the bad ratings by the one crazy man who keeps posting and give this hospital a chance if you ever have an emergency with your pet. They are great all the way around.

  • Pros: Professional staff, fair pricing, clean hospital
  • Cons: None that I can see

Best animal ER ever!

by puppyluv62 at Citysearch

This place rocks! I wish that they were open for normal things like shots because every time I have been there with my dog I have gotten the best care ever, even better than my regular vet. Dr. Cavanaugh saved my puppy's life when I rescued her from a shelter and didn't know that she had parvo virus. And last week I saw Dr. White after she was bitten at the dog park and needed stitches. I have also been there once with a friend whose dog had a cough and even though she wasn't critically sick, they treated her with a lot of concern and care. The front desk staff is always caring and professional and the hospital is cleaner than my own doctor's office. They also have an awesome coffee machine up front! It's all the little touches like that that matter. I would never go anywhere other than Animal Emergency Center with my dog if I had a choice.

  • Pros: Caring staff, great service, really care about animals
  • Cons: It's and ER- you can wait a little if something more critical is there (worth it!)

Animal Emerency Centre Saved My Cat - twice!

by MAWP12 at Citysearch

If you, like us, feel that your pets are members of your family I would go nowhere other than the Amimal Emergency Centre in Studio City. I only wish they were open 24 hours so that I never had to go elsewhere (in truth, I wish they treated humans too so I didn't have to deal with a lesser standard of care at human hospitals). The Animal Emergency Centre has saved our elderly cats life twice now and each time they have done it kindly, compassionately and for a fee that was more than reasonable. Our 16-year old cat is beside me as I write this, purring away and as good as new because of the outstanding care she received at Animal Emergency Centre. We also had our puppy treated there for more minor wounds and she too came out tail wagging, happy to have been a patient. Our cat and dog was treated by Dr. Cavanaugh and Dr. White, both of whom listened, responded, and clearly had our best interest and our pets' best interest at heart.

  • Pros: Best staff and medical care for your furry friends

Incredible Emergency Hospital!

by johnb161 at Citysearch

Incredible Emergency Hospital!

They saved my pets life twice!!! The first time he was bite by a rattlesnake and the second time a coyote. The staff was quick to respond to each situation, and I truly feel that my dog received top notch care. Unfortunately, I have to move out of LA and am concerned that my dog will be in jeopardy if he ever has to go anywhere else. This hospital is the Best of the Best!

  • Pros: Outstanding care, high tech, compassionate
  • Cons: none

Dr. Amanda Payne at Animal Emergency Center in Studio City

by Blair818 at Citysearch

I give AEC a thumbs up overall for their doctors and care but there's

one vet who I will go out of my way to avoid from now on. Hopefully my

dog will never need emergency treatment again but if he does I'll drive

a few miles to go elsewhere if Dr Amanda Payne is the vet on duty. I

found Dr Payne to be rude and dismissive about my concerns and acted as

if I had no say in what course of action needed to be taken to treat my

dog. Dr Payne might just have animals who live with her but our dogs are members of our family and they deserve better care than what our dog got from Dr Payne. I don't think Dr Payne understands that she's there to provide information as well as medical care, and even a little bit of comforting to both me and my dog would've been nice too. I was greatly turned off by the care we received and feel unnecessary testing was done just to jack up the bill. Unless my dog is dying I would never go back there if Dr Amanda Payne is on duty.

  • Pros: Friendly staff except for 1 vet, Parking in rear, 24 hour emergency care on weekends and holidays
  • Cons: Dr. Amanda Payne

Late night scare...

by sixftcutie at Citysearch

My little buddy Wolf woke me up late one night with an inexplicable coughing/gagging sound. I was so scared for him I jumped in my car with him without doing my hair or getting dressed! In a robe, hair crazy, and practically in tears, the Animal Emergency Hospital took care of my baby and he was good as new in minutes (he'd swallowed a small sponge hair roller). Thanks AEC!

Steer Clear

by CALawyer at Citysearch

We took our dog to AEC on a Sunday evening. The receptionist was rude, but we overlooked that. When he came back to tell us that our dog needed to be anesthetized, I asked if it was complete or local. He said complete. I asked to speak to the vet and was told twice that would take an hour or so, but anesthesia could be started immediately. If there's no vet available, who is doing the anesthesia? The staff couldn't answer that question. We decide to go to Animal Emergency Care Center in Woodland Hills, and the vet met us immediately, said it would take a local anesthetic and helped the dog within 15 minutes. Steer clear of a hospital that can't provide a vet with whom to speak about a procedure, that can't provide an estimate, that suggests an unnecessary and costly procedure (with a hefty bill for an overnight stay) and lack of courtesy from the receptionist all the way to the vet.
