Valley noshery serves traditional Jewish-style comfort food.

by Mar Yvette

With a tagline that reads "Every Sandwich is a Work of Art," this airy cafeteria-style dining room is like a breath of fresh air ... straight from the '50s. Opened in 1957 by Art Ginsberg (who still makes the rounds every week), this Valley favorite is the kind of place where everybody knows your name. (Or where you at least know the waitstaff's names, considering most of them have been here for more than 20 years.) From the plethora of Naugahyde, Formica and linoleum to the larger-than-life photos of pastrami and corned beef sandwiches ("Jewish exxxotica" according to Art), this is deli done right. Portions are hefty (we repeat, portions are hefty), whether it be the house chicken and matzo ball soup or a classic Cobb salad, so be prepared to take home leftovers. The whole sandwiches can practically feed a family of four while a half-sandwich, which is really more like a 2/3 sandwich, is plenty for two.

Used to be great......

by farfrompukin

I used to love going to Art's where the turkey and roast beef sandwiches were stacked to the ceiling.

But even though the sandwiches are still thick, there is something unclean about the place. Maybe it's the fact I didn't feel well for a day after eating there?

Guys, you make food, clean up your act or your customers like me will all end up at Jerry's

  • Pros: Big sandwiches
  • Cons: Nasty smell and it ain't cheap

3 Dollar Cup o' Joe

by brettcassell

When you come to a deli you expect a few things, cheap food, quickly made and of decent quality. Art's Deli On Ventura is none of these things. The fruit is frozen, coffee is stale and burnt ($3/cup) even at 9 am, and the prices are as nauseating as there potato knish's. The restaurant was empty at 9 am, I can't imagine why. I came here for a meeting for a film and alls I got was a disgusting plate of eggs and potatoes.

  • Pros: nice ventura view except for the middle eastern building across the street misplaced on the strip.
  • Cons: Prices, pictures of sandwhiches on wall, disgusting food.

Gut Distention. Wallet Thinned.

by gastrobitch

Decent food, but reminds of playing 3 card monte: I'll play but I know I'll lose 'cause I'm stupid...20 bux for a triple decker sandwich made me wince just reading it. I did like all of the pictures of sandwiches on the walls. Maybe if they go out of business I can by one for nostalgic purposes..."remember when I had that sandwich with three slices of bread?!?!? Oh man, those were the days."

  • Pros: Many booths, servers with experience. Pictures of meat on the walls
  • Cons: Inflated prices and no parking - and Jinro cocktails.

Great Food

by erikashen

As far as delis in LA go, this one takes the cake. Or the pastrami. There is no other family-owned deli like this in town - well, certainly not in the Valley. One of the Ginsburg family members is always always on the premises. Places like this just don't exist anymore. It's on the pricy side - the one downfall.

Great deli stop at any time

by netter1

If you're in the Studio City area, definitely stop in at Art's if you've got a craving for great deli food. If you're looking for a great pastrami sandwich, a bowl of split pea soup, or even just a nice piece of pie and ice cream, Art's is a good choice. Other delis in the area off some of the same menu items, but have very different atmospheres. Art's is comfortable, low key (can sometimes get busy), and the staff is always friendly and ready to serve you with a smile.

  • Pros: Friendly staff and great food
  • Cons: Limited parking.

A little pricey but it's real deli food

by theaterlover

Growing up in NY, it's easy to tell the California delis from the real thing. This is the real thing. Classic deli items (like lox and bagels, roast beef on rye, chicken in a pot) are excellent, the fancier LA twists on deli (like the salads and the non-traditional deli stuff) are less good. Art is often around himself as his daughter and the waitstaff all feels like they are there to mother you...which can be a good thing.

  • Pros: Great old-fashioned deli

Pastrami sandwich is to die for!

by jguardado

Oh wow. I love Art's Deli! My boyfriend and his family have been going for over a decade and I discovered it about 5 years ago. They have the most delicious, hugest sandwiches you can ask for. The pastrami with swiss cheese on rye bread is my favorite of all time. Their turkey blt is too die for too. Their bacon is sooo good and it doesn't even have any fat on it. My boyfriend loves the monty cristo. Their chicken noodle and matzo ball soup are great. We never leave without buying 2 huge chocolate chip cookies. The only let down is the price but It it never stands in my way. Gotta run, going to Art's!!!

  • Pros: Sandwiches, Service, Cleanliness
  • Cons: Price, Parking

I LOVE this place, and feel lucky it's so close to my home. Great food! Friendly Service. Good people watching with studio folks and a few actors thrown in. I go often and am never disappointed.

  • Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service
  • Cons: A tad pricey
