This is one of my favorite spots!!!! The wait however is a pain in the butt. I don't think they even take reservations. I once saw Jessica Alba there w/ her hubby and even they had to wait!
As for the food. Everything there is delicious. I especially, always get the miso cod. ALWAYS. =)
This place is tiny, but I love it. The crowd usually consists of people who know of this place and know the line is worth waiting for the delicious food.
- Cons: sometimes a long wait. Takes no reservations

5 stars for the food. omg so good. I had the creamy salmon roll as waitress recommended, and i'm now hooked. (i asked for no avocado and no onions just the salmon). Waitress was very very friendly and gave suggestions. We really felt important. Decor was kinda cheap i wish they'd fix the place up, dim the lights add some decor. They forgot 2 of our orders and claimed they thought we didn't want it. I'd rather them just say they forgot. I'd go back if it was a bit more romantic and nicer inside. they have valet parking for $3.50, that was very convenient.
- Pros: Amazing food, very friendly staff, valet parking
- Cons: Forgot 2 of our orders, decor is bland
My absolute FAVORITE

I love Katsu ya!!! It's my favorite sushi place I've ever been to! Sure the service isn't the best, but I soooo would put up with lousy service for fresh and delicious sushi! The one is Studio City is MUCH better then the one in Glendale or Hollywood, those are very hyped and fancy, and it just takes away from the focus on the FOOD!
- Pros: Fresh sushi, celebrity sightings, Fresh sushi
- Cons: parking, the wait....
The Best Sushi in Southern California

When I first moved to Studio City, a friend told me, "the best sushi in Southern California is in Studio City!" When I asked where specifically, he told me Katsuya. That was probably the best advice I've received to date. Time and again, I've had the most amazing meals at Katsuya. I love trying new things and the wait staff always offers fantastic suggestions! I especially love the yellowtail jalapeno sashimi and lobster dynamite. Really, you'd be hard-pressed to find something BAD on the menu.
- Pros: Sushi, Sake, & Beer!
- Cons: Always packed; having to wait for a table
A penny tip....that's what I left them....

A penny tip....that's what I left them....
the service was so bad and they were rushing us to leave- there is nothing great about this overrated place -
I think before Internet sights like this(citysearch) , reviewers were "paid" to write rave reviews in food, perhaps? sake?
something !! because it doesn't make sense why this place would have 4 stars. yuk.
- Pros: none
- Cons: save your money, sanity
Don't believe the hype.

My husband and I decided to check out why this sushi spot garners so much attention and such a loyal following. We made an 8 p.m. reservation for a Saturday night and were seated rather promptly. We thought the night was getting off to a fine start until we were asked for our drink order without seeing a menu. When asked for a menu the bus girl huffed and then stomped off to retrieve us one. We sat perplexed for several minutes since we were without a dinner menu and were offered no explanation of the specials. We needed to request a menu from our server as well! The sushi itself was nothing special -- there are unassuming places in our neighborhood and on Sawtelle that offer sushi that is much fresher and impressive. The spicy tuna on rice cake is rather scrumptious, but the sushi, sashimi and the few rolls we ordered were not anything mind blowing or crave worthy.
Toward the end of our meal, when the line out the door proceeded to form, our servers and the host seemed to rush us as we sipped our remaining hot sake. I do not expect to return to this spot again; I simply do not understand the hype. We know several other sushi spots that offer better customer service and mouth-watering fish.
- Pros: spicy tuna on crispy rice cake
- Cons: service, overall experience, value
