Better than it has to be

by SirBacon at Citysearch

If your expectations are unreasonable, they won't be met. On the other hand, if you're old enough, Twain's will remind you what it was like to eat in one of these diners when they were almost-new; the food is exactly as it should be. I'll let you decide if that's good or not. I love it.

  • Pros: Great staff, 24hrs, parking, patio - last of a dying breed
  • Cons: None

Down-home diner that keeps its stove-top warm all night for celebs and citizens alike.

In Short
So it's not quite as old or distiguished as the author, but this just-like-Mama-made-it greasy spoon has been a hallmark of Studio City for a long time, and locals appreciate it as such. There's nothing fancy or California-creative about this homage to down home cuisine--Twain's just keeps it traditional with classic breakfast combinations, pancakes and a solid set of sandwich options. While the food might not inspire your creative bone, there is a good chance you will catch some eye candy, as this 24-hour joint is known for fairly frequent celeb sightings.

It's 4am, and you want eggs.

Twain's is one of those ubiquitous Los Angeles fixtures, boldly keeping it's corner, stalwart and anachronistic. You'll find yourself here after the bars close, sober enough to read the menu but drunk enough to order something you'll certainly regret tomorrow.

The waitstaff is a collection of greasy spoon stereotypes, characters that have most likely inspired many a studio city screenwriter to pen a memorable scene.

The food is passable, a small step up from the finest of fast food establishment, but not really 'out-for-lunch' good.

Twains features a 24 hour breakfast menu that tastes a little better than the chain-eateries like denny's and Ihop, an interesting list of ways to present chopped meat, and a 'dinner menu' that's not to be taken seriously.

I recommend sticking with the basics, breakfasts and burgers, but after last call, you'll find yourself adventuring in to far greasier territory.

What Happened?!

by chantillyfrilly at Citysearch

This Landmark used to be my treat to myself every time i had an audition in the valley. I would come here after & it was wonderful. That was in 97-99. Went here today w/ my husband, hoping to have a nice cool salad in the Blazing heat this memorial day. You know that nice feeling of walking into an air-conditioned restaurant and sitting down to order? it was Stagnant hot. Two customers; a scary biker dude & a crusty old man. My husband ordered a coke. The Crackhead Waitress comes back & says"i'm sorry we don't have coke, only diet & sprite." she had a tick & kept cocking her head to the side .could not see trying to eat in that hot miserable place so we left. How could the Googie preservation society let this happen?

the late spot

by roarikus at Citysearch

Great every freaking time, especially after a night of parting. A bit packed from around 2am to 3am but still reasonably fast. The food is dam good for late night early morning; the staff at night is way cool, so much love to the valley dinner!

  • Pros: parking, great staff, late night
  • Cons: alot of cops, cash only

Good place to see stars

Good food. Good service. Stingy portions for a diner serving comfort food.
