Dangerous place to have a baby
by LCT2570
I had a baby at Good Sam earlier this year and had a horrible experience. The third nurse I had during my stay was a traveling nurse and she was unprofessional, inexperienced, and downright scarey. Her contract was terminated after my delivery. She didn't follow my doctor's orders, was telling me innapropriate jokes during my epidural, and didn't follow basic protocol for a precipitous delivery (doctor not in attendance). When my husband called for help after I couldn't resist the urge to push (bad epidural), no hospital staff came in the room to help the one nurse for 4-6 minutes. During this time my baby got stuck and it was scarey. The nurse was able to deliver the baby and when help finally arrived they were all uncertain as to what to do. My delivery room was chaotic with no in charge and everyone standing around waiting for my doctor. No one was friendly or reassuring to me and the NICU nurse was appropriately irritated at the whole situation;he was the only one doing his job professionally. When my doctor finally arrived he was angry and brusque and I wasn't happy with his care either. He was distracted during my labor and failed to check on me when he hadn't heard from the hospital for hours. When I called the hospital a week later after my baby was born the nurse manager was very responsive and caring, however. The postpartum nurses were good as well, although I left shortly after I delivered because I was so upset at how badly everything had gone. I really liked the anesthesiologist, he was very caring, but he misjudged what kind of epidural to give me. He should have told the nurse to shut up during its administration, and I fault him for that. I did like him, though, because he checked on me twice after my delivery and we talked about the substandard epidural I received. I wouldn't recommend Good Samaritan Hospital to anyone.
Sam I Am

I delivered my 2nd baby in this hospital (the first was delivered at Cedars). It has a relatively small maternity wing which allows more intimate care. Also, once the baby is born, he stays with you throughout recovery, even if you have a c-section. This is a big plus. After the baby is born, however, I did miss the high energy that characterizes Cedars.
